What exactly is GT5 SUPPOSED to be???

With the fiasco GT5 is, GT6 numbers probably won't be that good. GT5 sold that much because GT4 was apparently good for its time. GT4 sold a lot because GT3 was good for its time.

The GT reputation saved GT5 this time. Not sure how well GT6 will be received but I'm sure Sony and Kaz can hype it up with the help of PS4 and Twitter, lol.

You don't think Gran Turismo on PS3 is brilliant success?

Think again.

The Call of Duty figures I believe are incorrect by quite a few million, anyway GT5 is the biggest selling PS3 exclusive.

The excuse before was that there are less PS3s sold than there are PS2s and GT was heavily bundled, yet GT series is still Playstations biggest selling exclusive franchise on PS3 even with not the best of reviews. GT6 I think will sell just as well if not better as there a lot of car enthusiasts that will buy the game regardless and if GT6 beats GT5 shortcomings then I don't see why people who didn't like GT5 will refuse to buy it. The fans of the series are well in the millions who will buy regardless of bad it is perceived to be.

You guys always come up with some silly excuse that doesn't even make sense. And too suit your argument. Just face it GT5 is the biggest fail after all the hype and nice HD trailers we saw in the last few years.

FM4 will rip this too shredds and claim King of Racinggames. Until GT6 comes out in 2017 lollllllll:)

Dude, chill man.. I'm saying: crash simulators cost money and time. They're not going to make a GAME that you can buy for 60 bucks and make it a 100% realistic crash simulator that would make real crash tests obsolete. I've seen a computer car crash simulator. Believe me that costs more than 60 bucks.

Oh yeah, i've seen the new Forza 4 trailer..sorry dude. Didn't convince me..It still looks like a game.

Here's the deal with crash damage...if you know a crash will result in enough damage to your car that it will be undrivable you ABSOLUTELY WILL drive differently than if all that will happen is you get the sound of two plastic garbage cans colliding and you can continue driving as if nothing happened. A driving sim absolutely has to have driving damage if you are going to drive realistically.

Not quite.. I usually restart the race when I make a mistake and crash. Why? Because there is a RESTART button in the menu. And voila, no damage- no consequences. A real consequence of a car crash would involve some blood, cuts and bruises, a broken rib or a two. Now that would make me pay more attention to the road.

wow the rest of those games under GT5/GT5:P really sucked balls tho :-/
Not to take away from GT5, its def worthy of the spot.

And uh... Gran Turismo is a racing game lets don't kid ourselves.

Gran Turismo series is the single greatest testimony of one man's devotion to virtualize foundations of technical and economical development of his great nation and share it with everyone willing to accept such portrayal

I love you man.

Yes, I agree, but what about GT5 on it's own? I would like a similar, poetic, and yet simple answer..

A handful of premiums worked into a recycled GT4 isn't enough?

Really? I know of a member exactly like that; they're always making replies to these threads with nothing but stacks of the same, unrelated videos of Forza games. I wonder who that could be? This is just a hunch, but it may have been one of the three members that gave GT5 0/100 on this poll: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=6844 ;)

GT5 take that, take that, take that.

I see that you're not even making any attempt to disguise your bias now.

For sure there are lots of room for improvement in next GT game. Coming back to rollover and crashes I do not find this too exciting but it is funny for sure

Forza Kinect is already fail just like Forza3 was and GTFO to Forza forums. No one is talking about that crap here anyways

Numbers are irrelevant, really. Numbers are provisional marquee of current state of development for easier tracking on the market. It is obviusly a neverending process that evolves into greater picture.

GT5 is the first step of future framework that will build GT software as a platform, not ordinary standalone release.

Pozdrav iz Zagreba majstore ;)

It's a video game that allows you to drive cars (and other things).

Yes, I have come to a similar conclusion that the GT 5 is a very big step into the next gen console gaming.. I can vait to see what it will gradually evolve into..

Don't agree with you on that one. Once I discovered the problem with the AI that's exactly what I've done. Select cars and significantly tune-down the HP. If the event advertised 400-450HP for the competition I'd go with 300-350HP. Well guess what? We'd hit a turn and because of driving skill I'd have the advantage. However, when we hit the straight the opponent had the advantage. So like you see in the videos where cars were battling neck and neck, that never happened in the game. It was catch up, take the lead, lose ground. Only a few of the many races offers a heated battle.

Well there is the whole thing with racing! Tune down and you can take the turns a bit easier but lose ground in The straights. Tune up and you are beast in The straights and spin tires in The turns!

I have asked that we keep this from becoming a GT versus Forza thread.

Any future posts comparing GT5 to Forza3... or Forza4 (which is still not out) will be deleted.

KEEP ON TOPIC, BOYS.

A game designed to race and drive, to calm the mood and to make someone happy, with the beauty and story of Gran Turismo in one package.

With the fiasco GT5 is ...

Dude, I don't know. It's right there at the very respectable (and very green) 84 on Metacritic; it's a rock solid 4/5 on Amazon based on 404 reviews; the more I play it, the more I appreciate it. I think it's just about time we designate GT5 as a quirky game. Because that's really what it is. There's nothing inherently "broken" or "wrong" about this game. It's just that most reasonable people think there were a lot of poor design choices. The END PRODUCT however, is still damn remarkable, if quirky and flawed.

I still come back to whichever review said "it's a 10/10 driving sim wrapped in a 7/10 game." That still completely nails it (and neatly mimics the Metracritc score to a tee as well). But it's that first bit, "10/10 driving sim," that really matters, and all that has ever mattered. The rest is just us bitching about what we would have done differently and what we think they should change. And for ****'s sake hopefully they listen! lol

Pretty accurate description! I agree that I hope they are listening, and hopefully it won't be too long before we see if they are/were listening. If not then we know Kaz is arrogant and really needs to turn over the reins as director.

Which brings me to another point, based on the "whole" of what he's said so far in every interview I can find. Just not happy that he keeps thinking...he wants to add, add, add; don't know that he can be satisfied with just a few things done exceptionally well vice a lot of things done fairly well. Just my take and beef.

It is a very, very good sim for driving. The physics are the best I've ever encountered, which is probably the driving force behind all the reviews and sales #'s. I like playing it because there are a lot of cars to drive in a great physics environment. I LOVED the heated battles in Grid and though these other games are out or coming out (Dirt 3, Shift 2, etc..) I want to keep playing GT5 until I've driven everyone of the cars I'm interested under many different conditions. That could be a very, very long time.

Who cares ? It's a brilliant game just play it and stop complaining and if you don't like the game sell it.

Agree 200% the problem is that the majority of people were so overconfident in GT5 being the 'perfect' game, that they think it sucks, when in REALITY it only sucks compared to their opinion of what a great game should be. There is a line between logical and imaginative reasoning. In other words people got their HOPES WAY TOO HIGH. I challenge you to go back to any other racing game and see if it isn't arcade-like in one way or another or even less arcade-like than GT5. From the racing games I have played (which is quite a few, ps2 included, but i honestly admit probably nowhere near every game) I have not played any game better in simulation than GT5, but I'm not saying it's 'perfect' at all, no matter what you do there will always something someone could find wrong.

Think again.

If selling the amount of games is the measuring stick for "Brilliant" then it is a candidate, BUT the game is incomplete even by KY's own comments (I needed two more years). I think Kaz and crew lost their way after GT4. It is still a good game and I play it still a couple of times a week opposed to 3-4 hours a day every day, a few months ago (getting warm outside and have stuff to do, real cars and motorcycle, yardwork etc.).

I'm waiting for a significant update or a decent DLC otherwise I'm getting bored of the current content. I hope we do get some more events and improvements.

I say again, I think it is a GOOD game and I have enjoyed playing it, JMO

Have a Great Day!

WFT.

GT5 is like a Pontiac Fiero. It could have been brilliant given more time and development money.

Agreed,

BTW I would love to have a '88 Fiero GT 6 banger to play with or shoe-horn a little Chevy V8 in. The cars handled great and were fun to drive, mother GM killed them off, too much competetion for Chevy or so I've read. I had an '85 with an enemic 4 cylinder and 4 speed (wouldn't pull a greasy string outa' cats a$$ but was great in the corners, Sorry to stray off-topic.

All that means nothing if they don't bring the physics up to GT5's level.

We shal see.
GT5 physics isn't perfect, you know (I'm not referring only to rollovers and collisions). The goal should be PC racing sims level (best example: iRacing).

I'm talking about console games. We all know that current gen consoles can't do the level of PC sims.

Although not perfect, nothing else on console comes close to GT5's handling physics.

If they can't, that's not because of hardware limits.
Let's put it so: my opinion is that current console racing titles are at least 10 years behind PC ones. However, 10 years ago, PCs had far less processing power than current generation consoles. It's a development problem, either because there's not interest in bringing truly accurate vehicle dynamics simulation, or because developers are unable to make one. Or both.

Although not perfect, nothing else on console comes close to GT5's handling physics.
Many praise Forza. I've never played it as I don't own an xbox, so I can't make any comparison by personal experience.
However, it's sad if nothing else comes close to GT5's handling physics. That means the average level is pretty low by PC standards.

If they can't, that's not because of hardware limits.

It it. Low RAM is the cause. According to several developers.

For accurate physics, the game has to run at 60fps or more. This is very taxing for current gen machines. As they also have to feature current standard visuals.

After this, it leaves little room for a complex physics base.

Anyway, this is the dumbed down explination. You are better off researching for yourself.

PS, I have Forza 3 UE. I will not be praising it's physics.

The graphics' framerate has nothing to do with the accuracy of the physics engine, which runs usually at a different clock, generally much higher.

While i kind of agree, i'm also bit unsure if they should make GT in to PC sim level simulator. While at times i do miss the rFactor and GTR2 level tire models for example i do not miss the week long testing for that one half hour race that i did for the rFactor league i was part of. In GT5 i can just behind the wheel and drive. The balance seems to be hard to find...

This is a common misconception. Speaking of driving physics, GT5 is already at a point that will frustrate most casual players, with driving assists off and a wheel (since with a DS3 you already get several hidden driving assists). What it needs are the subtleties (and also less subtle things that, though, mostly experienced drivers only can appreciate) that make the driving feel really authentic and consistent with real life. While most players won't ever notice them, their lack frustrates those who seek a full and proper simulation (I would add that since GT5 is mostly about driving rather than racing, some things in driving physics just have to be nailed correctly).

Most of the time, the weeks long testings or other similar barriers to casual playing on pc sims are due to the extremely competitive nature of those games due to leveled playing field (mostly highly skilled drivers, leveled car performance, lack of assists/handicaps, etc) and the fact that in order to compete one has to shave tenths or hundreeths of seconds by driving at the very limit of the car. In GT5, due to huge variety of car performance and driver level, you never get to that point, unless you compete with skilled players you know with one car only in particular.
