Been away from GT6 and GTP for an extended period of time due to family and life obligations, and an ill fated power surge which smoked my 4 yr old slim the day before Thanksgiving. I've recently picked up GT6 again, having to start over from the beginning, and have been powering through hard the last few weeks. I've always lurked silently around the forums, be it sporadically, for the time I was gone. I especially enjoy the Premium sub-forums, and spent much of my time lurking there. But recently, I've been checking out the GT6 and GT6 General Questions sub-forums looking for things I may not have already known, or something that might help me make my AI experiences more enjoyable and even harder. I have to say, I'm less than impressed with the quality of threads I'm seeing in these forums. I remember back in the GT5 days these forums were loaded with knowledgeable and useful threads that were vital in the success of so may GT'ers out there. Now all I'm seeing is a bunch of whiny threads about what people want to see in future updates, whiny threads about why peoples cars don't sound the same as the last time they played, whiny threads about why people can't connect to PSN or online lobbies, whiny threads about topics that could most likely be answered with a quick Google or Youtube search.

So my question is....Where have all the real men gone?

We're all still here, & "real men" are different from mindless fanboys in that they speak up when something is not quite right. And sadly, there are a number of things not quite right with the GT series, it's makers, & where it's all heading.

For instance, while you've been away, Kazunori San approached Jordan & asked him to set up a GT Planet Community Forum where we could ask Kaz questions & he would answer them. However, over a year later & Kaz has completely ignored us & given no explanation as to why. Jordan has locked the forum because of the bad response from Kaz. He has proved himself ignorant to us, & many people are upset with that, especially as there were lots of well thought out questions that were asked & much effort involved all round.

Add to that the 100+ other problems, bugs, & issues that haven't been addressed (let alone resolved), & that's why there are so many complaints. Which is understandable imo.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm talking about threads like these....

Totally agreed! I miss the GT5 day's, i was watching the forums long time ago, years and years (thought i only joined this forum in 2013) but i enjoyed seeing people trading, creating and sharing courses, talking about DLC and such.....etc and now all we have is bunch of whiners complaining about everything, some are things i agree with, other things i don't.

They weren't really whining threads, more noob threads. Excitable types who join and open threads before they've had a proper look around the site, let alone look at AUP. There was a flood this Christmas past for obvious reasons.

Most are questions that we try and answer to bury the thread quickly, or point the poster to the pertinent thread/sub-forum because most we saw and were answered in the early months of 2014.

When you've seen the same question threaded about 5 times, I admit, it can get a little gnawing.

Yeah...maybe "whiny" was the wrong adjective.

I have noticed a drastic change even in my relatively short time coming to GTP. I bought the game just before Christmas 2013 and joined GTP Jan 30, 2014. The excitement that I was experiencing because GT6 was my first experience with ANY Gran Turismo game was matched by the excitement many people were experiencing and sharing here at GTP. People were just coming off of the highs provided by the credit glitch (I did not partake) and the extremely generous holiday seasonals...and then reality started to slowly sink in. For long time players of the GT franchise, they had every right to question where the heck several of the promised features were. From what I've been told, besides a radically different user interface and improved loading times and some physics improvements, for most people who played GT 5, Gran Turismo 6 felt more like GT 5.5... The anger grew... Some people were leaving GTP (and Gran Turismo, I presume) altogether.

I've said it several times before and I'll say it again. Yes, I have been greatly disappointed by the lack of promised features (some things eventually trickled in), the extremely terrible lack of communication from PD and things like Vision GT cars instead of new real cars.... BUT! At the same time, I have never had so much fun in my life. I don't play any other games. I only bought GT6 because a friend gave me his DFGT for free. When I started playing in December 2013 I thought I'd give it up by March 2014...April at the very latest. Nope. I'm still here...

What you are going through from December 2013 to now is basically what most of us went through from December 2010 and through the first year and a half of GT5. GT6 to me and many others I suspect, is as you say, GT5.5. It's an expanded version of GT5 and after going through the added content, you're basically left with the same game and an endless cycle of Seasonals to pass the time.

Like you, I only played GT, but boredom led me to try Grid Autosport last spring and in spite of it's admittedly simcade physics, I have to admit, it was a heckuva a lot of fun racing offline, with extremely competitive AI and adjustable race lengths and difficulty and an exciting racing atmosphere. I am a pretty decent pilot (WRS D1 Bronze GT5, D2 Gold GT6) and it took me more than 20 races into my Touring Car career before I won a race, and it was reverse grid! I had many 6 to 10 lap races where the top ten cars would be within 10-15 seconds at the finish. If yo made a mistake it almost always cost you a position and sometimes more than one. In spite of having nowhere near the complexity of GT in any way, it was in a completely different, and better class, in terms of offline racing. My eyes were opened, so I got my hands on a low end pc and tried Assetto Corsa for the first time and there was no turning back from there. Car count means nothing to me, racing is what matters first and foremost, online and off, and GT just doesn't cut it online or off, to me anyway. PD has displayed little interest in developing anything but a game that is barely above simcade in many ways and with only lipservice paid to the racing side of things.

I would really like to get into racing as well. I got so turned off by the immature and/or bullying public race room hosts that I stopped going into the Online Lobbies only a few months after beginning my GT6 experience. I know that I could find outstanding racing here on GTP, but now I have gotten so into just doing my own thing that I don't even bother.

I would really like to try Assetto Corsa on a decent PC setup. I've heard such wonderful things about it. I can't justify the cost of iRacing right now, but the iRacing safety ratings and such sound wonderful. But Assetto Corsa is something I could see myself paying a few bucks for. Unfortunately, the two PC's I have wouldn't be able to run the game with the settings up very high. My laptop could possibly run it a little bit better, but still not maxed out which is what I would want.

You can still have a great time racing online with GT6 - you just need a good Host and clean racers of which there are many. I recommend that you try any of the race series listed in this thread - I am confident that you will have an enjoyable experience.

I agree that there is fantastic racing to be found in the forums here at GTP. Hopefully I will check it out one of these days. I've gotten so used to doing other things with the game -- and I enjoy those things immensely -- I haven't even thought of racing (with real people) in so long. :grumpy:

Like a few others mentioned, a lot of veteran players I know from GT sort of, "hit the wall" so to speak.

My perspective mostly comes from the drift community...but I've started to dable in grip racing, and am finding it's much the same.

First and foremost, many people I know simply got fed up with online server stability. It's tough to have an enjoyable online experience when players can't see each other, the room crashes, etc etc.

Second (and this is where I see the parallel between grip and drift), the way GT is set up, it's more difficult than it needs to be to find people who are looking to play the game in a similar way.

Third, is a lack of variety...wait wut??? Yup. Even with the massive car list that GT6 has...due to the limited tuning options (as well as restrictive lobby controls), at any given PP, on any given tire, there is a small group of cars which will dominate the field. Doesn't matter if it's grip, drift, drag...it always happens.

The best example I can give is my Nissan Skykine Sedan 350GT that I use for drifting. I love this car. Love the way it looks, love the way it sounds, love the way it handles. However, it's a boat, and it doesn't make enough power to be able to tandem with other cars in class (eg Lexus ISF). It's fine through tight sections, but it just doesn't have the power for big sweepers, especially while chasing. So, instead of being my main car, it's a toy I use every once in a while to run some solo laps...but when I want to tandem, I use a Fairlady Z like thousands of others do.

For me, that wasn't enough to quit the game....but I know of several others who, after several years of playing GT5/6, they simply moved on out of boredom.
