Freeway + loose gravel = perfect shot to one of the many lines carrying the cooling agent. :ouch:

I wish it was poor reliability because it would be covered by the warranty. :(

I finally changed out my wipers. It will be raining tomorrow, so they better work well.

I also adjusted the tire pressures on the front tires. The rears looked fine, but I'll see how that works out.
 
I changed my oil earlier. I decided to try fully synthetic in the EM1 to see if it holds up better than dino oil or the blend that I can hardly find anymore. It's got 138,000 miles, but whatever. I hear synthetic tends to eat up seals and whatnot, but I ignored that and decided the high-rpm and high-heat protection would be better.
 
Yeah. Because I've also heard plenty of VTEC guys saying they've never had problems with synthetic for years. Plus, it's pretty much standard equipment in new performance cars and all that.
 
Someone told me the exact same thing about switching to fully synthetic on a high milleage car, i did it anyway and it worked fine. The person who told me was from teh interwebz so I couldn't punch him in the face:grumpy:

Today I spent half an hour cleaning my passenger seat because my mum borrowed my car to go shopping and milk leaked out of the container. What was she doing putting milk on the seat anyway?! There is a perfectly good floor for that:indiff:
 
I got 3/4 of the way done grinding out the L&R side engine mounts, along with the battery tray.


Who needs engine mounts anyway? Must have hacked off a good 10lb worth of steel.
 
Its not really technically my car but I did score this stuff form work for $13 that will be used in my car project at some point.

 
I replaced my water pump yesterday because it started leaking really bad the day before. 3 hours and $110 in parts later, no more coolant leaks. I even got it all back together in time for the local cruise night. I think a saved a bit by doing it myself too, which is always good :)
 
The beater had some rice-tastic LED gear knob that would blind me at night. In 4th the LEDs were shining right in my face! :crazy:

So after twisting on it while driving along, I managed to get the top to come loose. Score! I pulled over and took it all apart. Got the LEDs out and threw them in the back seat. Put it back together, and no more LEDs. :D Got to my mate's place, and he said he had a knob I could use... :sly: So I gave him the LEDs and the gearknob for them, and put his very similar, non-LED one on. Problem solved.

The bonnet on the beater was also vibrating a lot. At idle, while running... So I investgated the problem and it was all in the catch. There's no adjustment in the catch, so I jammed a piece of bicycle inner-tube in there to tighten things up - good as gold mate! :lol: Silence.

Isn't it something like the synthetic is "thinner" so it just shows leaks more, it doesn't actually cause them.

It has some kind of cleaning agents in it, or maybe the oil itself is some kind of cleaning agent in a way (not sure on this) , but it clears out sludge, and if you have any old dry cracked seals that were plugged up with sludge, cleaning it out can make a leak.

EDIT: Yesterday I put my Brembo rotors and Satisfied pads on.

They just keep getting better and better as they wear in.

Pff, that's nothing. I got spend £400 getting my mate a new door sourced and fitted for his Corsa after I reversed into him.

In other news, after a fluid check I've noticed my car really needs an oil change. Probably should have done it 6 months ago when I bought it.
 
Ahhhh....But this is Australia, there is the same amount for Ferrari 348s as Cordoba's for sale in this country right now. They spent over a week just trying to source the headlight.

Cost to fix: 1600$-2000$ (£750-£950)
 
Whoa that's a lot of cash for a small repair job. That's worth more than a transmission rebuild + labour and all for me.

Nice. I'll order my stuff within a month. I just gotta get off my lazy ass and send the old pads back to Tire Rack. Yes, the ones I've had since November. And yes, they'll still take them back.
 
Went to my NTTGA car club meeting tonight and picked up my interior trim! Tomorrow as well as Monday-Tuesday I'm going to clean up and install what I can.

Speaking of the meeting, here's a pic of some of the Fbodies there. :D My car is in the middle. :sly:

The pads are great. I haven't fully bedded them in yet, and I haven't had them at their full operating temp yet, but they are already awesome. I can feel my face being pulled forward under hard braking.

The only thing I can say I don't like so much, is that it seems as though I have to press the pedal around 2-3 inches before they really start to work, but when they do, boy do they work.

It might be the Civic's braking system, or the fact that they haven't fulled bedded in yet, or maybe it's because they haven't actually reaching the proper temperatures, but, either way, its getting better on each drive.

Now I need some kind of decent rear drums and pads, or at least replace them with new ones, because I think my fronts are doing around 95% of the work, and I'd like to improve on that.


Oh yea, today I changed the tires, balanced them, changed the rear shock absorber, put in a new wheel stud, changed the windsheild wipers and ordered rear brake pads for my sister's Kia.


All this happened since it was inspected last year. During the course of the year, we also changed an alternator, 2 CV joints, 2 wheel studs, and an engine mount.

Don't buy a Kia.

Actually I'm currently in an insurance fight to make them pay for it. Although the fight has cost me 950$ so far. If I lose I'm just going to tape it up, cause the damage is half what I paid for the car.

And nah, it's the GF's cat.

His car was breathtakingly breautiful in person. I love T/A's and gun metal just seems to to be the best color.
