Finsihed building my computer, then installed the OS and played a game on my new rig :)

...At least that is what I would have done if the delivery driver wasn't so lazy and didn't look for my flat and/or couldn't count up to the number 24 in my 'big' block of flats.

What I have done is re-check my Laptop's performance score in Vista and my graphics rating went down from 3.5 to 3.4 :(

Currently a good deal on the U3011 here in Aus. (Though still not 'cheap')

My mate just got the U2711 so the U3011 would make him cry.

Must. Resist.

How muchey!? I'm chasing a good decent monitor, with at least 1280x720, and preferably 1280x800 if it can. That looks really nice. I'm rigging my Mac, Server, and school-soon-to-be-replaced-with-a-gaming-computer computer into the one screen so I can flick between channels and view everything. Then unplug my Mac when I want to relax (WiFi for the win! :D)

So yeah, a link would be nice if you could. :)

EDIT: Just found out that it's 2560 x 1600  Link to the price is still appreciated though. :)

$1599 at the moment. Though you can call up and haggle them down to about $1200 I hear.

Oooh that's pretty. Who makes it?

Ducky.

Not the cheapest bit of kit, but from all reviews should be well worth it. (Though I think they may be harder to source in the US).

(Oh also I got Blue Switches)

Cleaned the gunk from inside the trackball. Only a week old and already having to clean it out. Seems about right though; the last Logitech trackball I bought was the same way.

I installed another Thermaltake ISGC Fan 12 in my computer. Brought the noise WAY down. It is a little bit warmer though, not by very much. So I'm going to see what I can do about that the next time I don't have bills to pay.

Today I joined the brother(and sister)hood of FireFox in reaction to the continuing demise of Safari (Chrome is out of the question for obvious reasons).

^What obvious reasons?

It seems Chrome will take the number two position from Firefox in the browsers' war in a few months. I still use Firefox at home but I'm using Chrome at work and I'm liking it.

That Ducky looks nice, but I wish it was tenkeyless with browns.

Well I did nothing but buy new PC parts for a new computer! Moving my 64GB WD SSD to the build and putting the second hard drive in the old computer.

New PC making time this week! The extra hard drive is going into my old PC and I will be selling the old computer with the new hard drive. Gonna be using my 64GB WD SSD as the boot drive and the second hard drive in that list in my new computer as data storage.

Also, why the 6770? That's just a slightly faster 5770..

That is a budget problem. 6850's start around $150 on Newegg. He probably didn't have the money. However, my question is.... why not the Powercolor 6770 that I ordered a month ago? Or is he not ordering ff Newegg?

Why would you get an FX CPU instead of a 2500K?

Low budget. I could only get an AMD ATX motherboard for $99.99 compared to another Intel P67 or Z68 ATX motherboard that costs $20-$30 more. It's my Birthday/Christmas gift from my parents and my old computer is going to cover half of the costs.

Also, why the 6770? That's just a slightly faster 5770..

As before, budget. I could only spend up to so much and the ASUS GPU was what I could afford and would fit inside the ATX Mini-Tower case fine. I won't be gaming advanced games, such as MW3, this is for HTPC use and light gaming(minecraft mostly). If I feel like I need a GPU upgrade I will upgrade it in the future.

Edit: I ordered the ASUS because I'm a bit biased to ASUS and I like the fact it's one of the cheaper cards with heatpipes. Which means it will run cool with a smaller footprint. I'm not a fan of heatsinks with the big piece of metal going around in a circle. I've had two of those GPU's with that heatsink style and they run hot.

Mini-tower case? Why?

-snip-

On the other hand, what's done is done, and I think you should be excited to recieve your new PC, especially with the new FX chips. Any plans for overclocking? Have fun assembling your rig!

1. It's a HTPC and I wanted the smallest case possible. 14" tall and 17" deep. No need to have a big case thing next to the TV!

2. Yes I plan on overclocking the CPU and GPU when I feel like it. I got the CPU since it had the most value for the money and I always wanted a 8 core processor. It's the one thing I really like about AMD. They make nice budget CPU's compared to Intel and plus they are making the chip plant in Malta. It's going to bring a lot of jobs to NY so I thought I'd support them with my purchase :)

I'm just miles away from the chip plant!

Oh! Beside the TV, right!

I don't know about the budget part you talk about though considering the benchmarks.

However, 8 cores does seem like something to be excited about! I like AMD too, in fact, I am a die-hard fan of them. I was considering on going with AMD until a last minute decision wen I decided that the i5 was the best bang for the buck at the time (even possibly now?). Don't worry about the benchmarks right now, once newer software gets released, you should be able to utilize its full potential! AMD also has an office about a 45 minute drive from my place! (It was the ATI building in Markham).

Does it come with the water cooling they were plannign on?

Getting your CPU in a tin box must feel epic. All other CPUs come in a cardboard box....

There is no value for money with BD.
If you wanna run photoshop and unrar files all day then yeah, you can use those 8 cores and be as fast as anyone.
For everyday usage, you're about in the middle with the i5 and phenom2 kids.
The part about newer software somehow showing the real power of BD, is (more than)likely not true. There is software that shows of true, raw power no matter how many cores you have.

So you got a chip that runs HOT(read 2600k wishes it was that hot) for an HTPC(not best cooling, small case) and you are planning on OCing it along with the GPU?

That plus the power issue that goes along with the heat issue. And Intel has good offerings for pretty much any budget, except if you're looking for a cheap quad-core for encoding or something. You could probably save a bit on the power supply too.

The 2500k is $205 for a limited time now at newegg and you can get a Z68 motherboard for near $100. I'm not seeing this budget as a valid excuse especially when the 8120 is $220.
