Ghost is great. Most home users go for Acronis I believe, but if you can justify Ghost, which I'm sure you could. Go for it.

Problem right now is I running out of HDD space (Who thought a few years ago that you could run out of 5TB of space...), I'm just agonisingly waiting for HDD prices to slowly drop again...

120$ is a good deal for 320GB of space don'tcha know?

I feel your pain though. I keep getting asked to create builds for friends and they're giving me low budgets to work with, and I end up having to give a good portion of that budget to the HDD..

That works too.

I generally just tell my friends that right now that due to the recent issues near Thailand, the price of a harddrive has gone up. Then I try and build as good a base build as possible with the nicest/cheapest/biggest drive possible.

Haha, mate, you can pick a 500GB drive up for under $100. It's not the most reliable, but it'd do the job till things are cheaper, then you could sell it in...something.

PCCaseGear currently has a 500GB Seagate 7200RPM for only $79, that's what I"m forced to use as boot/storage. Clickey.

Well, in reality they're not that bad. You can get a 2TB Green drive for around ~$130 which is fine for just storage/backup stuff, and really not all that expensive. It's just the fact that I paid less than $80 for 2TB 10 months ago that makes it hard to swallow...

Most of the people I'm friends with would like 1TB or more. Also, I don't live in Australia so I'm bound to online stores like Newegg, TigerDirect, Amazon and such. These places haven't bothered to think of people creating new builds, and have more often than not, just like in brick and mortar stores locally, have increased their price and put a limit on how many can be bought.

For reference, this drive:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697 just before the floods happened, cost around 79$ It's now 139$

I helped a friend rebuild his PC after he literally fried his Socket AM2 mobo and cpu (shorted ZIF pins + power = scorched hardware). He does professional video, so the ongoing Sandy Bridge sales at Micro Center caused him to switch to Intel. He now has a 2600K and a Z68 mobo. I oversaw the installation and guided him through. It was pretty painless. And thanks to Windows 7, the system still booted, even after a full architecture switch. Obviously he had to replace chipset drivers, but it sure beats reinstalling the OS.

Used some tweezers to get my memory stick duo card out of a laptop card reader which only supports full size MS's

Never happened before, I was just in a hurry and forgot to put the adaptor on! good thing I didn't push it too far in!

I emptied over 10 GB of things I didn't need and moved a lot of other things to the External Hard drive to speed it up a little. (I only got Steam for a Race 07 demo. Steam is 7 GB in size I think it was)

Reinstalled windows on my living room PC, as my main PC is still in spare parts.

I opened up my Mac the other day to try and replace the thermal compound with Zigmatek Zero Point (and properly, not the crappy way Apple puts it on...I'd hate to see the inside of their iPhones). However, I cant' for the life of me get the screws holding the logic board undone. They're quite small but they won't budge, despite my stripping 3 screwdrivers trying. Any suggestions?

Re-organised my desk again....

Pictures ftw.

Lookin' nice there Casio. That is one heck of a mouse pad you got there! :)

Lets see....not much. Just uninstalled Witcher 2 because I finished it and made room for Dirt 3 that I just got done installing and ran through a couple paces.

No Pictures FTL.

Will post up some pics later, but for now...back to racin'. :)

More pics HERE.

Before I got it my wrists were just resting on the edge of the glass table, which wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world. The matching wrist rest for my keyboard is $40, that's exactly a quarter of the cost of my keyboard. Which is insane. Getting a giant cloth mousemat is cheaper and more practical and effectively does the same thing.

Also your setup looks amazing. Really like the lighting in there.

Finished the mock-up of my PC and found some details have to be changed before powder coating.
Tomorrow is finally everything ready and next weekend assembly.

Busy weekend...

Upgraded from my old WRT54G to a WRT310N.
Played around with a new thin client I bought, HP 5540.
Started setting up my new desktop replacement.
Upgraded wifes iPhone to iOS 5.0.1.

Nice! What do you use the thin client for? Basic browsing and simple desktop apps?

So anyone got any help as to what I posted before? I can't get the screws undone on the logic board of my MBP, to replace the thermal paste. Got any tips or special screwdrivers I can use? I've already stripped 3 watchmakers screwdrivers...

From my experience Wiha seems to be a good brand. I know my 38 bit set has been doing really good for me.

I had the same problem, when I removed the cooler from my GPU.
Sometimes this small screws are a real pain in the a*#.
I have two complete sets of fine mechanics screw drivers, but sometimes no chance.
At the end I had no other choice, then to mask it off and carefully drill the head off.
But anyways good luck ;)

Not sure yet. This ones much more powerful than my other one that has a Geode 300mhz in it This new one has a Via C7-M 1ghz. Plus it can natively boot from USB unlike my older Neoware Capio that requires something like PLOP to boot of USB with.

I was thinking about turning it into a NAS head for my external USB drive. Haven't decided yet.

Very nice!

I have an old P4 machine that I've put a SATA II controller in and paired it with 4 2TB drives for media file storage. I am thinking of redoing my NAS and use FreeNas 8 to manage it. I seriously need to replace all my older nics and switches with Gigabit speed nics and switches for faster transfers and better steaming to my PS3's for example.

If you go that route with your thin client, let me know how it works. I'm very curious. :)

Got it up and running today. I'm not getting the performance I'd like from the IDE to SD disk. It's only a 8gb class 4, but even if I bought a class 10 it still wouldn't be very fast. I might spend the money and get a IDE to CF converter and a small 8gb card that can push somewhere around 50-100mb's.

I also have a slightly weaker T5530 series I'm messing around with. But this one only has a 800mhz Via C7-M, and is limited to 128mb of ram.

Also discovered Tiny Core Linux today, which I can hopefully use to breath new life into my older Neoware Capio

Finally managed to use my old Ubuntu 8.04 server again!

Re-configured it to be used by all the family, sorted out folders for them to use.

Only thing is, I have to figure out how to get it to wake on LAN or wake on command using SSL connection. Wonder if it is possible... only just thought of it now and I'm too tired to search after spending a few hours configuring it! Used to do it all the time, but after a long hiatus, its slowly coming back to me (with a lot of curse words thrown into it)
