Removed the top off my Lian Li A77F, undid the screws that held in the 2x140mm fans.
One of the screws instra-stripped(screws seemed to be over torqued for holding in fans) on me so I had to drill it ou,t minor bending near the screw hole but i'll live with it.

Now I have to wait for the 280 Radiator and install it with the 2 better fans I orded.

I don't see the need to get any special cleaning materials. The 91% rubbing alcohol that I can get for $1.75 at a supermarket does the job.

It'll work, but there are things designed for the job, that's what I was trained using, and I'll generally only use 91% Alcohol if I'm out of the good stuff. Generally I've seen better results out of the solutions I used at the place I worked.

You gotta remember, I'm working with a QX6700, they STILL go for 1000$, I didn't want to ruin it.
 
Booted up my Fujitsu laptop. The fan has made things up again for a week already and when checked on the temperature sensors, it climbed up from 60 degree centigrade to 90! :crazy:

Backed up the some data and I'll have to send it for service again.
 
Well they are a Core 2 family CPU but same goes with me when i spend $300 on a CPU, $700 on a GPU when it comes time to add new thermal paste like MX-4 I will be using articlean to remove the old stuff off.

Cool story, last I checked they were at 1000$ still. Either way, it's an expensive processor that powers my computer and if ruined would require me to build a whole new computer, something I do not have the money for.

@Grayfox, glad to see someone else uses it.

A quick Google search told me that the most expensive QX6700 was $435 and the cheapest was under $180 USD.
 
Well that CPU is one of the extreme models and they normally go for $1000.

Any how here are the pic of the minor dint on my case top that happened when I had to drill out a stripped screw.

Articlean huh? Well I got a whole 10fl oz bottle of the rubbing alcohol. I'll look it up and see if the difference is really worth the huge price difference. Two 30ml bottles for $9 is rather expensive compared to rubbing alcohol.

Edit: Did some research and well.... I'm not really impressed by it. I've learned how to use rubbing alcohol in my Cisco class years ago and I don't see the reason to buy Articlean. For some reviews there was a slight improvement but it's not enough to make me fall over and buy it considering the price difference. When I get a new bottle of rubbing alcohol I just take a normal nail and punch a hole through the paper seal to use less and make pouring onto the hand towel easier. It's quite effective and within three seconds I have a patch that is larger than the size of the cap.

Just checked all emails, one from fridayil saying my next lot of parts are being shipped.

Which has the i5 3570K Ivy bridge CPU.

Now I just have to find a GTX680 and order it then get the water cooling parts which are easy to source.
 
I turned the virtual memory feature off on my SSD and let windows use the HDD as virtual memory(as if I need it when I have 8GB of ram). It is interesting to note that when I had my old system with the SSD it said it would last 10 years on the IDE mode and on my current machine in AHCI mode it says a year and four months. The TRIM command is enabled.

Well, when you check the completed listing on ebay, almost all of the listings sold for roughly $100. A 1/10th of the new price, you would be very lucky to sell the CPU for $150, so I wouldn't jump out and say it's worth $1K. You should know that hardware that sells for one price at new, will sell less after one year, and so forth. So why buy that CPU off of you when someone could get the i7 3960X that's new, the same price that you claim, and under warranty from a store?
 
Hmm. I'm looking for a Core2Quad/Core2Extreme for a friend. Prices here in AU, even on eBay or Gumtree are so expensive.
 
Actually there is one from ebay.com.au for $50 AUD that never sold on ebay. Who knows, maybe you can send a message to see if the user still has it, you could get an excellent deal.

pc wouldnt start for about 30 min then it told me the over clocked failed cos it couldnt apply the overclock or voltage

So considering Linds isn't the greatest at describing stuff, the best I can assume is that something corrupted his BIOS and it revived itself somehow. Honestly I don't know what happened, I didn't see it. We had only put in .05V extra, and a 250MHz OC which was rock stable. The frequancy and voltage has now reverted to stock. Anyone got any ideas of what happened? He's got a Core2Duo E7300 @ 2.66GHz, and an ASUS P5G41T-M LX3.

EDIT: @nick09 Wow, thanks! If I can remember my EBay details I'll shoot him a message. That would make the world better. It'd actually be going in the rig that I've described in this post :p He's gotten into rendering video so it takes ages for the dual core to do the job. That and it's bottlenecking out his 560.

Happens at times, If it fails to boot up correctly a few times due to unstable CPU Voltage, Bad Ram timings, or similar it will revert to stock settings.

PC may turn off and then turn on a few dozen times before it resets its self.

Happened to be when I first overclocked and then started when my RAM started to die(which was not overclocked).

Could have been just some random error as well.

I added the PSU to my new build and working on cleaning up the cable mess.

^ Yeah. Problem now is that I have to go allll the way over to his place, and redo the OC. *sigh*. There goes my Saturday afternoon next week.

EDIT: Nice work on the build. Just one thing, I really don't see why people are big fans of the LianLee cases, to me they look cheap... but still looks great with your setup. Can't wait to see the watercooled loop once it's all done. :D You gonna LED and UV it up?
 
Nah, Want a blue look not a purpleish look and I will be using Black hosing.

Their is a theme going here.

And their are no big fans on this case.

Front has 3 Blue LED 120mm, Rear is a Standard 120mm and Top has 2 140mm Fans which I am replacing as this is where the nice 280 radiator will go.

They may be the Bentley of the PC world, but that still doesn't change the fact that most of the cases don't look too special. I've seen much nicer looking cases for much cheaper. It's all up to preference though. I know what Lian-Li does and why they get so much good press, I just can't bring myself to buy something like that.
 
Though sometimes the lanboy series are on sale for $40 and for a ATX tower that is quite a deal despite some extra fan features missing. They do look amazing and I know a friend who bought one for $240(something like that, it was an aluminum series). Makes me jealous that I don't have a 2K budget.

There is only one case from LianLi that's worth the money imo.
Personally I'm more then happy with my Silverstone case.
The build is just great and even the front door is aluminium.
 
Is it me or should Lian Li change their name so that they don't seem like some Cheap dollar store case to newbies? That's the first thing I thought of them when I heard of them.

Why should a successful Chinese company have to change its name just because newbie westerners think its sounds cheap? Plus there's a whole lot more Chinese sounding companies becoming global soon it will be the norm. Like Li Ning which is on course to be the next Nike, its already the 3rd largest sportswear company in the world and Huawei. There was a time when things like Sony, Hitachi etc sounded nasty.

Literally all cases available aren't totally aluminium or they look odd IMO which is why I went for a Powermac G5 case. Modding is so much more fun.
