...I formatted the wrong drive and lost lots of files.

I subsequently discovered that I backed up some files but lost the large ones.
 
I hate Windows 8. So i've been using the picture password since I got it and that made me forget the text password. Not very useful when your PC keeps booting into safe mode for no reason.

So I ended up having to reinstall it.

Microsoft - 1 Me - 0
 
I got my new monitor/TV today so I now have a dual screen set-up.:D

Still getting used to it but I already love it.👍
 
Only thing I actually did today was to run 3D Mark 11. First time I've used a benchmarking program. I ended up with a result of P10362.
 
I installed an SSD in my windoze machine and in the process of reinstalling Microsoft Flight Simulator X on it. Loading times for stuff is definitely snappier.
 
Got home, backed up my mac, repaired the disk by booting from the Mac OS X disc, and promptly installed Windows 7.

Mac OS X is a great OS and the "it just works" stuff is true, if you don't know what you're doing on a computer. If you're just going to be using it for general use and don't want to do much gaming, then Mac OS X is great. That being said, I've been using a Win XP laptop for months and it's not any "harder to use" or complicated than Mac OS X. Nor is my Win XP somehow instantly prone to viruses just because there's no shiny apple on it.

My windows partition actually screwed up last night and I don't feel like trying to fix a windows install on a mac, so I deleted the partition and I'm going to get a legit Win7 disk my dad has at work. When steam told me Dota 2 doesn't run on a mac I knew that my days of using Mac OS X were numbered :lol:
 
Just finished building my first SATA only PC.

So easy. :lol: No more master/slave/cable select. No more worrying beeps at start up.
I must do it more often. 👍
 
Re-claimed 43gb of my SSD (C drive) by moving my Origin games to another drive.
Now to work out how to do the same with pCars.

Even though I had a thread more or less for it, over the past couple of nights I've freed up 60GB on my year-and-a-half old SSD by deleting rubbish and making symbolic links to my Origin games which are now hosted on my D drive (except for BF3). So that's nice, I had been contemplating a 256GB SSD to replace it but now it looks like that money (that doesn't actually exist) can go on something else. I do have a serious itch for new components though...

Ok, what would you guys do first:

- Upgrade a 2500K to a 3770K (about £250)
- Buy a second GTX 680 (about £400) or
- Upgrade your three heavy, inefficient old 21.5"1680x1050 TN panel monitors to 23" 1080p IPS LED ones (£450-510 ish)?

Or would you just buy a CPU cooler and overclock the 2500K to about 4GHz? I've still got it running at 3.3GHz.

I would go for 3 LG IPS234V-PN displays. 23" AH-IPS LED panel that are great for gaming. Should cost around £400 leaving some money for a decent CPU cooler (CM Hyper 212 Evo?).

I like the price, but the grey to grey response time is 14ms... Isn't that way too high? People talk about 2-5ms for gaming, I know they like to trick the metrics to dress things up but I imagine LG would be using the same tricks, yet they're stating 14ms! For £115 per monitor it's a nice price but I think I'd rather wait a little longer and get better displays.

Do either of you have one of these monitors? Thanks for the heads up though, I had no idea these existed.
 
It is confusing, there are two quoted GtG response times (14ms and 5ms). From experience (I own said monitor) I can confirm that it is actually 5ms. I highly recommend it, the colours are fantastic, no ghosting and great contrast.
 
I think this is a computer issue. All I want to do is get my adsense payments sent into my accounts. They don't allow mailing them to me anymore so it has to be electronic funds transfer into my bank. I enter all my info perfectly, fail. I try again, fail. I call my bank to verify it's correct and try again, fail. I email adsense for help they have an automated email sent out saying search through the forums. This is so frustrating.
 
Run the computer with no rad fans since my fan controller died and I didn't notice.

Rig is solid, never peaked past 50C even after a few hours of borderlands 2.
 
Installing Ubuntu 12 on partially broken HD, and try to see if I can make it work.

Also testing new setup, seems like ideal for this sort of thing.
 
250GB Seagate is having some issues, so pulled a 500GB WD from my media computer and have been setting up a completely clean install of Windows 7 on it and now going about re-installing the stupid amount of applications I have.

Tedious is the word that comes to mind.

No, never, not once in my years of working at a university in dealing with IT. :rolleyes:

I don't bother with Ghosting because generally half the software needs to be updated anyhow to more current versions, which have to be downloaded and installed. So, it wouldn't save me much time, and certainly wouldn't help when I have different hardware configurations in my own home to deal with. Not to mention part of this whole new install was prompted by some odd conflicts coming up later between some apps.
 
So far I've managed to procrastinate by making a FreeTrack thing for my headphones. Well, I've attempted it. I got some IR LEDs I salvaged from cheapo DVD player remote controls, a USB cable from my old Driving Force Pro, a piece of galvanised steel wire, three guesstimated 330R resistors, a small piece of stripboard and lots of electrical tape. And an old USB webcam.

Testing the cam quickly in Skype confirms there's no IR filter on the camera as it can see the LEDs clearly, FreeTrack does pick them up too, but this room is too light so it gets confused easily. Doesn't help that there's a white wall and a cream coloured sofa behind me either because they just reflect lots of white light so it can't differentiate. Combine that with the fact that the LEDs are at an angle because I've just taped them to the headphones directly without any sort of shimming and the fact that my hair covers the middle LED and you have a not exactly useful head tracker. I'll try again when the sun goes down but for now I think I should get back to work. Or look around on the internet for more powerful IR LEDs for which I can get the data sheet.
