How short? Can I be banned for a few minutes? Seconds?

I assume decimals don't work so one hour minimum.

I'm certain a moderator isn't going to be bothered to ban someone for a few seconds or minutes - that's just incredibly pointless.

If the offense isn't ban-worthy you'll get a warning, if it is ban-worthy you'll get an expiring infraction. Simple as.

TB

Really? An hour?

I thought the minimum started at 24 hours.

Cool! I've always wanted to see what it's like to be banned! That 1 hour ban MUST have been made for me!

You know, I'd never thought of that. But I can't resist....

While the shortest period that someone could be banned for is one hour, we generally don't hand out bans that are shorter than two days. Most short-term bans will be for two, three, five or seven days deending on the circumstances.

Oh. Can premium members ban themselves (for an hour) I'd really like to see what it's like to be banned, if you guys have the time.

No we cannot, also how would that make you see what it's like to be banned for 1 hour?

If you really want to know what it's like do this:

1. log out
2. smash up your keyboard and mouse
3. drive a round trip of exactly 1 hour to buy a new keyboard and mouse
4. log in

I was a member of a forum that had a place called purgatory, its a place where banned members would go, and they could only post in that section of the forum. I got put there once for upsetting the establishment, but when I started taLking about soap, and Bubba, they let me out. I think a purgatory forum would be great here, just for the begging post/threads alone. Hehe

:odd:

I think Jordan changed it so you can still log in, but cannot post or send PMs.
That's correct. Upon logging in for the first time after being banned, you will receive a private message from a moderator explaining why the ban was issued. After that you cannot do anything more. I don't think you can even view the main page of the forums.

Haha

Sorry, posted that on my Android phone, was suppose to say, "talking about soap and Bubba'' forgot the "L" from "talking". Not sure of if that makes what I said any better? lol

Corrected now :)

On a previous forum (NissanForums, before they sold out, went corporate, and all the OGs left), we had the "ban" button. Press the button and you get banned for 24 hours.

Became something of a game... see how many different places and hyperlinks you could hide the ban button under to catch other members off-guard.

Yes, the forum was full of royal unmentionable-holes. And yes, dozens of members would ban themselves over and over just for the hell of it.

Generally, if the offense is not too offensive, we'll give them a ban of a few days. If it's something major, a month or so.

Jordan said they can still read the forum (You can see them at the bottom of a thread occasionally)

That, is amazing.

Mine was for 2 days. I was able to log in and browse around, but I was unable to post as Interludes said.
