I prefer anything FINE tipped. I want it to cut the paper in half. But frankely, I never keep a pencil long enough to have a nice one. I just pick one up of the ground when i need one.
 
I never use pencils any more. But when I did, I used a .5mm Parker 25 or a .5mm Rotring, both mechanical, and with 2H lead in them.

I actually went through a period of doing all my school work with a .25mm or .5mm Rotring drawing pen with China Black ink in it. Boy, was that ink Black!

Probably explains why I now hold my pen near vertical!
