I'm a non-practicing, and non-believing Catholic. So yeah, I guess I'm an Atheist too.

Assemblies of God. Sorry about the confusion, it was starting to storm here and I was in a hurry to shut down the 'puter.

Agnostic

-IMO, It's possible that there is a 'GOD',... but I dont think it's ever spoken to any humans OR sent us any 'saviors' ;)

When I think about it for long periods of time,... I usually end up convincing myself that life is somewhat 're-encarnative',... I'll stop there,.. the rest of my theory is to much typing for right now, lol.

Jewish, but non-praticing. . . I am a firm believer in Logic over anything. :)

Same here. We only(sometimes) go to temple on Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashana(if we can find a parking spot and want to crowd into the over-populated temple...). After my Bar Mitzvah we stopped going there by a lot, and I like it that way. They wanted me and my bro(who's 3 years older than me) to keep going to the different programs because of this stupid rule they made up at the temple that after our bar mitzvahs we're supposed to stay there to complete the process. Didn't happen.

But I use a combination of logic and scientific fact to explain things. I'm still a firm believe in Hanuka though. :D

Something I always wondered about all you Athiests out there,.... how can you flat-out, 100% deny the fact that there isnt a 'higher power'.... to me it seems like your all the same as the religious ones,... cause their just as stuborn only at the other end of the spectrum.

What Im asking is,....... what are your opinions as Athiests on why life even exists in the first place?

How is this question different for atheists as opposed to Christians?

It's not. But it seems like Christians are always viewed as closed minded when it comes to their beliefs but atheists are not. That's a little odd.

I think a lot of atheists have tried to understand Christian beliefs, but because of a certain lack of logic (from the atheist's point of view) in Christian views there isn't any (or little) understanding, therefore atheists find it hard to apprehend why Christians wouldn't follow the supposedly logic route. Thus the close-minded stamp gets pulled out.

It's far different becuase Christians/all religions have an example of why life is here,.... whether it's adam and eve or what not,... they have a reason.

Now,... why do you athiests think we are here,... not just we as humans, but life itself?

Lets make sure everyone understands what they are saying:

An Athiest is someone who completely denies the existance of any god or higher power.

An Agnostic doesnt view either side as right or wrong,.. until there is a reasonable (scientific) explaination that proves such things as so.

The obviously arent straight from the dictionary,.. but you get my point.

Now,... are all 14 of you SURE that your Athiests?

That's a little vague, Red Eye.

I think you're mixing up the meaning of life with the origin of life. So, to answer your question I would need to bring up the everlasting evolution VS creation debat - which I'm not going to.

Ok,. I'll narrow it down,... the 'meaning of life',..... religious folks say it's because they are part of a devine plan made by their god(s)....

whats the athiest view on 'why we are here',... NOT 'how we got here'.

And what would that divine plan be?

Everything is sheer coincidence, there is no real meaning to life. Our instincts tell us to keep life intact - we reproduce, and that's it. (At least, that's my perspective on life.)

pfft,... I've been trying to figure that out for 25 years now ;)

Sheer coincidence. (At least, that's my perspective on life.)

coincidence to what? For something to be a coincidence, there has to be a parellel perspective.... right? :shrugs:

ok,.. diregaurd the above,.. I understand your EDIT 👍

Life exists because millions and millions, probably billions, of years ago micro-organisms existed and began to evolve, multiply, and join together to create bacteria and then living things. From there we get all things that are living, and I believe that us humans came from an offchute of apes/cavemen/whatever. It's fact, if you look at Lucy(that million something year old skull they found), it's like an inbetween human and ape.

Not that I care or anything, doesn't change my feelings on life...

But what created the micro-organisms?

Your theory is extremely close to mine,.. the whole evolution deal all the way down to the micro's,... but,.... HTF did it happen? What started the 'big bang'? With those questions in mind,... how can you deny the existance of a 'higher power' that may have created it?

What created the higher power?

But let's not have this thread turn into another evolution VS creation debat....

Christian, which by definition is a Christ follower, and trying to live by Christ's examples.

Cano,
I would be really interested into talking with you about the JW's.

I hate that you mock the evolutionary theory like this. It just shows you don't respect other people's views at all.

Yeah, really. There's no way to no for sure.
