What ruins GT5:P online the most?

Hmm yep it's bad this weekend! I just calmed down and decided to try the 700PP HSR track instead of suzuke.......Oh what a mistake! Remarkedly I only had the host quit about 50% of the time.....but 111R's WTF! They no longer hold dominance since PD corrected there PP cheat, so now go on the HSR and note what happens on the second and last corner with the 111R....nothing else mind just the 111R drivers (majority not all) they run the barrier....every lap....without fail! I can out speed them down the straight, I can keep with them through the chichane and I lose about 2 car lenghths through the first corner......on the whole I can beat them, and the non cheating drivers I do beat, cleanly, but when they run the barrier I'm losing 1-2 seconds every time they do it! PD have made a fantastic game, theres nothing wrong with it.......except one thing........the people who play it and cheat, unfortunatly PD can't do anything about them so roll on private rooms and let them go race themselves!
 
I hate it when you do the FREE RUN to set up your car for the race and get eveything just to your liking,then you goto the race and wonder if it is the same car you have just tested because it handles totally different!
 
Prologue is pretty much a demo, a taster of the real game in a few months time. They have some time to correct some things etc for the full game.
 
I don't want the game keeping track of my wins and losses until the other issues are fixed because I wan't my wins and losses determined by skill not by having a handicap because of being far behind or ahead. I also wouldn't want to lose because someone rammed me sending me off the road with them getting no penalty and going on to win the race.
 
i'd say host quiting is the most disruptive thing. i can deal with crashes they are part of the game, i can even deal with odd bout of being rammed every now and again but the amount of races currentjy marred by the host quiting is very annoying:crazy:

PD can do something about wall riders etc. Damage. Crash into the wall and break an axle or damage your suspension or steering etc. They may still limp along,but no one wins by limping along. :)

Private rooms are great, but I think people on this forum are often (not always) confusing private rooms with public rooms, that has a host that can kick bad drivers.

Public Rooms with a host - Anyone can enter, but can only race based upon the hosts selection of things like track, driving aids allowed, car class, number of laps etc. Voice communication and the hosts ability to kick players helps with bad or unruly drivers. The host also sets aside a particular number of "slots" for friends to join.

Private Rooms with a host - Only players invited or who have the password can enter. Otherwise same as public rooms with a host.

It's very difficult to coordinate a private room with a decent amount of players, who can all be online at the same time. The majority of people really want public rooms where there friends can jump into and out of at will, but with a host that can kick unruly drivers.
 
Suzuka races are dirty, if you want a good race I suggest Fuji. I'd say about 3/4 of my races there have been good, clean races.

The Daytona Speedway is the worst of all. You draft past someone, and when they draft past you they decide to give you a knock, and there goes your race...

No point in stat counting until this is finished, however I wouldn't mind a reputation system. Where you could say how the drivers were during the race, basically rate each driver after the race is complete?
 
1) Rolling Start for 2 lap races
2) Boost handicap
3) Intermittent collision detection (cars crashing or driving erratically go transparent...and then become solid at the last second so you can crash into them and loose the race.)
4) Tuner cars (imo) should have their own specific races. I used the Ford GT Spec LM tuner car to farm for cash in the Amateur races before I got my A License to race in the Professional Series. I know it was weak, and frankly, it made me felt weak. However, I needed the money at the time and it was the easiest way to get it. Using a car that powerful just felt unfair. Tuner cars should have their own races. I still feel bad about using it because some guys were driving very, very well in cars that just couldn't keep up while I coasted around, sometimes making costly mistakes, getting penalized, pushed off the track, etc. Most of the time I still finished before the second place car even made it onto the final turn. That was just weakness on my part...and I apologize. I now make it my goal to win with underpowered cars and good driving skills. There is nothing more satisfying than spanking a bunch of Ferrari's, Vipers, Vettes, and other supercars/tuners with a TVR Tamora. At the end of the race, I bet there are a bunch of guys scratching their heads.

I also really hate the rolling start. It is retarded for a two lap race. 90% of the time, I start in last place or next to last place. That's just the way it goes. More times than not, I can still win or finish in the top 3. Were it not for the equally retarded boost handicap, I should not be able to catch up in such a short distance. (Thanks bumper car drivers!!! While you were wrecking everyone, I kept my speed constant and drove around your carnage.:))
 
I finally spent about 4 solid hours racing online today. Mostly, PP700 races at Suzuka, but I also tried some beginner races. I now want to vote for a couple write in candidates.

1. Lag
2. Spinning Ghosts

Wow. I was amazed at the consistently shakey framerate, that I assume came from lag. It was also really hard to tell who was a ghost and who wasn't and when they would appear/re-appear. Some races I felt like I was driving through a maze of spinning ghosts. It was almost comical.

I'd ditch the ghost code. It would be better if it didn't exist, because you're so tempted to drive through the ghost, but it's a gamble, because you're not sure when he'll re-appear into something solid. I think people even hit me, because they thought I might be a ghost...

It seemed like most people were trying to race clean, but I'd get rammed or bumped in most every race. I would often give the benefit of the doubt to the driver, because lag was pretty bad, but it's frustrating. I have a very solid connection for Forza, so I chalk it up to PD needing tons of work on netcode.

I'm loving racing with my G25, it's a big step up from my Microsoft wheel, but I imagine I'll burn out on racing Time Trials and Single Races. I'm on S in the career mode and the whole career system isn't my favorite thing.

The more I race with the G25 the more impressed I am with the driving and the feel. Kudos to PD and Logitech. I'm just so disappointed in the online experience. That's where the replayability is for me. I burned out on Forza and Prologue was just what the doctor ordered, but man online is so bad, it's unbelievable. It's not just the 16 driver races either. Lag seems to exist in 4-8 driver races too.
 
Boost handicap is by far the worst problem for me. If you remove that the problem of rammers becomes less significant beacause if you're good you can get far enough ahead so that they cannot hit you. Also, the boost system kind of negates the point of a stats archive aswell as any such stats would effectively be meaningless anyway.

Lose the boost, bring back the REAL driving simulator.
 
depends if you have mates that like to ram you or not.

My point was that if you can build up a decent lead others cannot get close enough to ram you, hence reducing the problem.

While I hate the licensing in the game, they should make it mandatory for online. There should be an 'R' class. And depending on whether you get gold, silver or bronze those are the classes of race you can run online. 👍

In my opinion its the boost handicap. This might as well be scripted wrestling if you're going to have a boost handicap so strong you can make up 5 seconds in a little over a lap or less.

Because of this all the drivers at a track like High Speed ring are caught in one big street fight. The talented drivers can't break away and the win is usually up to chance, not skill

Tough choice but I went with the lack of private servers and host options. Even if a game had the other problems (online boost, rammers, etc.) it would still be fun for me if i could have races with friends and/or leagues.

Is it possible to have polls with multiple choices and ranking? that would be pants!

The issue with rammers is not that they are bad drivers, most are actually pretty good, hence such licences would be pretty pointless and just another annoyance to those of us who just want to race.
The issue with rammers is their actual way of thinking, clearly they dont have the right way of thinking about what defines "good racing".

That is most definitely not my experience. I've come across a few rammers who can actually drive well but the majority are borderline hopeless. It's more evident in the 750pp class where the difference between a good driver and a crap one is 10-20 secs a lap but, even in the 600pp it's easy enough to outpace most of them.
 
After owning this game and a PS3 for about a week, last night I finally tried GT5:P online.


I'm not allowed to enter most of the races (I'm still trying to achieve gold in all "A" class events, and there's one I didn't even tried to do), so I went to FUJI with the Nissan GTR. Just 2 laps.

I really can't complain about other drivers (there was only one rammer, from Denmark, but he was such a poor driver that he wasn't a problem at all) and I didn't feel the boost thing was THAT important to the outcome of a race.

I can't also complain about the results, because I won all the races I entered :sly: (I guess the others were really inexperienced drivers, the only guy that was keeping up a good fight was a spanish fellow). Surprisingly, I was the host in all but one of those races (I have a good connection, but nothing special, really).

So, and now with personal experience, I stand by my opinion , already posted in this thread, that what makes the online experience in GT5:P a poor one is the lack of interaction with other players, and for that we need private rooms and friend invites.

I felt "anonymous" and silent (I'm used to TOCA RD3m where I spend a night racing and chatting to persons that have become some sort of friends, by now). It's all a bit sterile, I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say.

So, I guess I'll go back to TRD3 to play online. That, or I may give GRID online a try (everyone in the TRD3 sessions is talking about moving on to GRID), as I'm going to buy this game today, on the way home.

OT - Note for portuguese readers living in Lisbon - I did a few phonecalls today. FNAC has got GRID already, but only the Xbox version. However, El Corte Ingles has also the PS3 version (they received it today). That's where I'm going later today.

It doesnt matter, my point still stands, just implementing licences to try to stop rammers isnt going to work.
Its impossible to stop rammers, especially because even GTP drivers around here admit to retaliating with ramming.......where does it stop?

It stops more rookie drivers who dont ram, at least not intentionally, being able to race higher up than it does stop people out there with dirty racing styles or just out there to ruin everyone's fun.

I'm sad to say that the Gran Turismo series has promoted dirty driving because of it's lack of decent punishment against those who drive like maniacs, in fact most game guides suggest you do it to pass races and championships. So, with this in mind, a large majority of people who play Gran Turismo will not see any difference between how they race offline and online, all they see is easy victory.

Punters, rammmers and friggin' morons will not dedicate the time and effort needed and they don't posses the skill to pass even if they did so they won't get the required licenses and won't be able to join those races. 👍

Absolutely correct. Instead punters/rammers will be forced to take drastic measures and download a save position, ironically, from a board just like this one :D

You see, you'd be surprised what good drivers are capable of, case in point, look around here, there are quite a few posts from GTP members openly admitting they will ram people if provoked.
Now, you may say "oh, but its retaliation, its fine", but what if you were the person being rammed back? What if the initial ram that was being retaliated upon was a mistake? You would say that the other person was a rammer wouldn't you? This is the silly circle of life that happens online and why I refuse to retaliate with ramming, its just not worth it and gives the wrong impression.

This is why i say you will never get rid of rammers, no matter what, they'll be a decent driver out there who loves GT, loves his cars, loves racing but will still ram if necessary to him.

Clearly, the punters could take the time to complete all the way up to S-class.....why would they not take the time to get all golds?
Also, like I say, it punishes the innocent more than the guilty.
 
I think we need to differentiate here between someone who uses ramming the same way the use the accellerator and brake pedals and someone who does it to retaliate. Whilst I agree there is a grey area in between where someone might take an accident the wrong way and punt back I'd imagine these would be less common than Out and out revenge.

For me retaliation is not a case of trying to 'take the opponent out' my motive is, as always, to be in front of them. If you let me pass - I'll pass. If you hold the line legitimately I'll say behind and try to pressure you into making a mistake and giving me room to get through. But if you've punted me a couple of times or are zigzagging down a straight I'll simply shove through with no regard whatsoever to where your car ends up.

Basically, what I'm saying is I'll race on your terms and I'll do my damnedest to win, on your terms. Just name your terms ....

Really missing the lack of race replays though. I understand the enormity of the task, but when you see the wonderful quality of the arcade etc. replays, I can't help but crave them for the online races too.
