What would you rate this game on a scale of 1-100?

There's so many different aspects of the game which vary so much in their level of greatness, I think that's why I haven't written a review of the game.

I would probably still give it a 90, but with a disclaimer that if your only goal is to just reach level 40 or beat all the races you'll probably be pulling your hair out pretty quickly.

But if you're willing to organize some races with friends and/or can have fun just hotlapping against yourself the game has infinite replay value and is quite top notch.

Hmm, nice physics, the best AI in GT yet, great challenges. Lousy sound, terrible menus, track count not up there with the competition, repetitive. I'd say 75-80.

I actually rated it pretty high days after it came out. Now.....not so much.

Keep in mind, this is just MY opinion - your's may very differ.

It's basically a 50 at best. What it does good, it does great. Where it fails - it fails miserably.

Bottom line....it's just not FUN, it's a chore.

An erratic grind fest with no real point other than to keep grinding. I honestly do not have any interest in GT6 if it's more of this crap. This is the worst version in the series.

Spot on.

95+% for simulation.

50% for the game.

Best GT physics in the worst GT game. Development focus was hopelessly compromised.

Bingo. If GT4 looked as good as GT5 and had the same physics it would be the better game. I give it a 60 because it isn't as good as the games that preceded it.

I'll give it an 75 ( thats being generous ) I'm 28 a-spec and 26 b-spec and I am tired of grinding to buy my fave cars . the endurance races are too much for me I cant do 4hrs or 9hrs , much less 24hrs on a race . I'll keep doing the seasonal events but I am as far as I can go otherwise. GT3 was my favorite of all the GT games.

I think it deserved an 80 but no more, If taken to account all the release dates and almost 6 years in production probably a 54. Im at level 36 and don't plan on playing it further, I'm currently collecting all the cars. Now I can understand IGN who I was furious with from the review score. I though it was a 95 before I got to actually play the game.

88 - great physics and force feedback, great Nordschleife track, great SuperGT cars, great fun up to level 25, then a bit too much grinding.

A couple of features would really raise the score:
1. Event generator or more career events
2. Leaderboards
3. Full G27 support

Hoping the future patches and DLC round it out to make it an even better game

A solid 70. The driving is top-notch. The racing isn't. Every car has about 1 or 2 races they're eligible for out of the box or with minimal mods. Beyond that, look for a new car or drop $150,000 into to make it competitive for anything else. I took a 2 week break and came back only to quickly be reminded just how horrible the menus are.

Physics: 70%. There are some physics glitches that are present and some cars don't behave like they should.

Online: 45%. The amount of restrictions a host can set is extremely limited. There aren't enough ways to customize rooms to our liking. Even while in lounges, there is no way for the host (owner of lounge) to be the only one in control.

Offline (A-spec and B-spec): 25%. The AI are horrible in A-spec, every race except the endurances are sprints, and there aren't very many proper events. In B-spec, the drivers you hire drive like they found their license in a Cracker Jack box and don't drive like anyone should on a track.

Offline (Special Events): 80%. They missed some stuff here, but overall there is a great time to be had here. There's a good mix of easy, medium, hard, and WTF difficulty events.

Controller Support / Controls: 0%. While there is a good stable of controllers supported, the G27, G25, and Fanatec Wheels are unsupported. These are some great wheels that don't even have support. Then don't get me started on the stupid clutch assist that always slips the clutch when shifting up gears. Also, don't get me started on the game MAKING me miss shifts when I should be nailing them. I should be able to shift from 1st to 2nd even while the tires are spinning. What do I get? A freaking N. Really PD? The controller implementation is HORRIBLE.

Damage: 0%. This is the worst damage I have seen in any racing game that has had visual and mechanical damage supported. Every PC sim destroys GT5 in damage, Forza's mechanical and visual damage are better, GRID's damage is better (and it's not a sim), even NFS Shift's damage is better! Absolutely HORRIFIC.
Let me know when I can finally hit a wall head on at 50 MPH and total my car in and GT game. (Probably will never happen).

To be honest, I don't even know why I'm still playing Gran Turismo. Maybe it's because the premium models in it look fantastic, or that I can perform dream races with cars that may never race each other. There are also other things that I'm not going to mention due to laziness.

My final rating: Gran Turismo 5 gets a 20/100 (1/5).
Reasons:
Graphics are okay, but the rest of the game falls apart from there. I think the only reason I play GT5 now is to drift and fool around with cars. If I want to race, I'll be on the PC playing iRacing.

Being that most of us spent a lot of time grinding away to pack our garages in Prologue to "transfer over to GT5 " possibly led to some disappointment . Anyone agree? It kinda feels like I've been playing this game for like 2 years now.

Haha wow you guys are crazy!

I can see myself playing this for years not to mentions they just started with the add-ons and fixes. This is a driving sim and if they got the physics so good (to me the most important part) then why the low ratings......nevermind I'm just gonna go play the game.

Because there are giant glitches in the driving physics. There are a lot of cars that don't behave like they should.
Lift-off Oversteer is not modelled properly.
TTO is modelled properly in some cars, though.

The driving physics are a typical driving model of a console game catered to controller users.

I find it hard to rate GT games because I never really consider them to be in the same category as your average game. It seems, though, that in their efforts to make GT a better "game" (what with the levelling system etc.), PD have detracted from the brilliant physics model and beautiful attention to detail.

GT to me has always been about the cars, and the latest iteration feels a bit diluted in this regard. The whole standard/premium issue doesn't really need any introduction and other elements such as the tuning and the AI don't seem to have improved at all. If anything, the AI seemed better in GT5P.

Anyway if I were rate it as a "game" in the traditional sense, I would give it about a 7. But if I were to isolate the best aspects of the game and, say, just lap the Nordschleife all day in premium cars only, then I still have to give it a perfect 10. It just doesn't get any better IMO

Agreed. They noobed the game from what it was in the GT Academy. Sigh I'm going to have to save up and move to PC sims I think.

I somewhat agree, but this iteration seems to be the ugly child of trying to fit in to the market these days. Maybe this is just a transition title into GT6, but it doesn't feel like this game has reached what it could have been.

I have this give this thread a 20 for not having a poll.

Moreover, absolute scores are irrelevant. A score is relative. I can give GT5 a 4 but if it has the highest score among racing games then it's the best racing game.

For me it's the best racing game on any console. However, if I had to rate the quality of work:

A 93% - physics and graphics and features
C 75% - single player game

The sing player is quite bad (paint system, lack of restrictions on events, trucks at Daytona race) but licensese and special events present an addictive fun challenge that outshines all other racing games.

I'd give it a 75 now. I'm a little over halfway there but I had to grind just to get some money to buy the cars I want. And if I buy a car in the UCD that I've spent all my money on, I can only do the oil change because I can't afford the engine rebuild and chassis maintenance. What they should do is either:

A: Eliminate the B-Spec portion and combine it with A-Spec
B: Offer way more events in A-Spec
C: Offer more Seasonal Events or offer worldwide event races online (like in GT5P) so that way, they can reward more money
