i think my vr4 is tuned to 800 and can smoke mots races in prof as long as i pit every 20 laps on super slicks... if i pitted more conservatively like on 10's i might not win in a couple races

i think my vr4 and my 400r have same track times and best for non racecar model road cars... ok that is really off topic oh well

I would agree that the VR4 and the 400R are the best Street cars in the game simply because of their power and their handling capabilities..Seeing as how they could be even better, if AWS was there

How can you argue with the performance of the Corvette C-5, I mean it won the 24 hours of Daytona in real life, Panoz Esperante is a worthless piece of machinery.

seems slightly random... i dont know who complimented the panoz... i just said you cannot judge a machine on how the ai drives it...

and while i love the vette in street and race versions... i dont htink it is the best american car... the c5 vette wasnt up against a rally escort... rs200... or sierra cosworth...on a track where both cars would be allowed a more even match... ie not a speedway... and the vette was not against the old or new version of the gt4... and i could care less about american racing... lemans and rally is what to pay attention to... rally esp cause people like me can actually afford those cars... while i will be able to afford a nice vette when i am 50 and retired and going through a midlife crises...

anyways just thought it was random... we were talking about vr4 and 400r man...

The Panoz is a great race car, if you know how to tune and drive it properly.:D

one word............VIPER!!!

Um, the above you just said, the vette places near the top if not first in all of the endurance races. 12 hours of daytona is a road course, and 2 stock car drives placed podium driving it, yea 'dem rednecks in circles (or to most people it seems). So apparently, the c5 isn't that bad of a car, eh?

ummm like i said.... the c5 vette is not a bad car.... i just dont think its the best american car ever made or even in the game...

sorry if it came across as if i was trying to say the vette was a pos cause its no where near that... its probably the best american sports car made today... esp for the money... dust a viper easily and for much less... that is my prejudice, sorry viper lovers...

the speedway part i was talking about is that botht he gt40 and the escort rally in the game and in real life the rs200 or any cosworth could at least keep up with a vette race car... but these are, like the vette, masters of racing engineering and gems in american automotive history...

so again sorry if it seemed like i was insulting the c5 or c6 or any vette... i wasnt trying to... just was tired and not paying attention to what i was saying

 :odd:

How can it be random when it has something to do with this thread... talking about the VR4 and 400R seems random to me (even though they are good cars).

I look at the vette like this. It is the real American sportscar. Most other countries look at America as something that dominates everything, well the Vette is the same way.

In nature it is actually an autocross car, designed for tight turning radius's quick braking, and not much roll. Yet, it still has the ability right off the showroom floor to run wild on a dragstrip, and then with nothing changed, go out run 70 thousand dollar vipers, and 90k Nsx's and many many other 'high priced cars' for alot less.

Also, it is a car you see everyday, I've never seen a NSX, i've seen 2 Vipers. I see atleast 5 vettes everday, 3 are c5's, 1 is an lt1 or older, and 1 is a z06.

Its something we can relate to, and I feel proud that a company can make such a versatile car, to make nearly 30mpg highway, 11/12 second quarters, out preform street legal race cars and last but not least, it doesn't take much to drive it, whereas most other cars require a perfect driver for peak performance.

lol true injected... i was reffering to him saying hte cr5 was a bad car... which i thought no one said... and i agree with everything you said sominon... as i said the vette is a great american sports car... with its history and its existance as the only true american sports car it has my vote for the best contemporary sports car... but i still dont think it can compete with the legacy of hte gt40 or rs200... but that is my opinion... i feel like you dont think i like the vette... or even that i dont worship what gm has been able to provide... i wont beable to afford a vette until much later in life but same for any other true sport luxury car... ( anyone ever notice that lots of middle aged men drive convertable vettes)... anyways we can all dream right...

I probably prefer the Viper Oreca as ive used it too do a couple of endurance races, and i found it wasn't as bad as i would have assumed it to be. I was thinking about going for the GT40 Race Car, since i have the GT40 and that rocks, but i don't have the Racing version and i have no idea how to get it either.

ive liked the vette ever since i saw a viper... i dont know what u guys see in them

Funny you should pick those Fords as shining examples of Americana. Seeing as every one of them was designed and built in the UK... :D

Right and the basis of the corvette was designed be ferarri. Also the Viper was based off of the european looks of the Shelby Cobra

Still American companies though.

Actually not. All but the GT40 were designed, built and paid for by Ford Europe, effectively an autonomous arm of Ford. Ford Europe received no financial subsidy from the cars, and Ford received no money from the sale/competition of them.

The GT40 was a Ford product, but was designed and built in the UK.

So in reality no American minds were involved in the genesis of the vehicles, only money.

Conversely, the Shelby Cobra IS American. The AC Cobra on which it was based was a UK car, but the engineering which went into creating the Shelby version was entirely American, and based in the USA.

lol you... we already discussed my irritation with american car comps... too spread out and never give the good cars to there home land... stupid ceos... they see there company all over the world making brilliant cars... but do they encourage it here... hmmm not heavily... so we end up with some great cars... but much less than elsewhere in the world... so sad

Let's not start on the companies themselves. I must correct you, though, that only the European Fords are built in the UK. US Fords are all either built in Mexico (the cheaper ones) or the US, and all Mustangs (no matter where they are going) are built in Detroit.

GM and Ford both suck as companies. I think less people would buy "American" cars if they realized that the Ford Focus and Escort are built in Mexico, the Chevy Metro and Tracker are built in Canada, and most US Hondas and Toyotas (Accord, Civic, Acura CL, Acura RSX, Camry, Corolla etc.) are made in America.

I picked the Viper, but the GT40 is also fun.

I really don't like any of the American race cars. The GT40 is the only one that isn't ridiculously ugly. The cool American cars are the normal ones, like the Viper Concept and the Corvette Z06, that you would use in the PD Cup.

Not since 1998 they aren't. European Fords are built in Germany (I believe). Dagenham produced Mk4/5 Fiestas and Escorts - now it just builds diesel engines. But the GT40, all Cossies, the Escort & Focus World Rally Cars & RS200 were all built in the UK (the Focus WRC is run by Ford Racing, a UK outfit, so still is. Oddly the Impreza WRC and Lancer WRC are also UK-built cars).

Just found this...

"After Ford-USA's attempt to buy Ferrari stalled in 1963, Ford decided to mount their own ambitious racing sports car programme, and to beat Ferrari by making an assault on the Le Mans 24 Hours.

To do this, a design team was set up in the UK, at Slough. After buying Eric Broadley's services, and his Ford V8-engined Lola racing-prototype, Ford appointed John Wyer (ex-Aston Martin) to run the programme. The result was the GT40, first seen in 1964"

(lengthy explanation about Mk 1, Mk 2, Mk 3 and Mk 4 GT40's)

"Production began at Slough in 1965, with most of the cars being built over the next three years. Only a handful of fully road-equipped MkIIIs was (sic) sold, but detuned racing cars often appeared on the open roads, where they proved to be enormously fast, if afflicted by poor cockpit ventilation, poor all-round visibility and by a marked dislike for driving slowly in heavy traffic.

All in all, 124 cars were built, of which 12 were prototypes and 10 were Mk IVs. Ford identify 94 as "production cars", of which seven were Mk IIIs, and 31 Mk Is were equipped to "road car" specification."

Just in case anyone thought I was making it up... :D

Ahh. I'm a moron. I didn't realize he was only talking about the GT40 when he said Fords were all made in the UK.

well lets see what r the other good fords only avaiable in uk... ummm rs 200... and cossies too... but i guess they are not fords really... and hey what does a sierra look like??? lol do they even sell sierras in us... is that the ford xr4t something is... i saw one of these and thought it looked like what i remember the siera look like... ok maybe i am just wishing hard

Finally someone who says something right. Fords suck, fords blow. They blow and suck at the same time. Hey... guess what?.... Turn left.
