Where do you guys typically shift?(not applicable to autoshifters)
A)Little bit before the red zone
B)At the red zone
C)A little bit after the red zone

depends on the car and the race...

for example, in a high powered car (vantage v8) i shift very low when coming out of corners as it stops the beast from spinning out then shift on or above the red line along the srtaight for maximum acceleration.

a lower powered car i can shift higher. tho is i am blitzing the competition then i'll shift lower so i can drive smoother and conserve tires.

I shift when my car tells me to... yes, cars speak to me. :p

For real though, I shift by sound now. If I look at the tachometer it should be between "B" and "C", I'm not sure.

I spend a few laps listening to the engine, and watching the speedo. Note the pitch of the exhaust noise where it coincides with the best acceleration.

It varies by car.

I also spend a few laps looking at old topics. This was covered not so long ago.

4cyl cars, or N/A high revvers..I take into the red for high RPM next gear...high HP Turbo cars, I usually just let auto do the work......

That appeals to my sense of humour:lol:  , quite funny

I said this before, but I guess nobody listened, so here it is again.

Look at the specs for the car you are about to use. Look at what RPM the maximum horsepower is rated at. Shift about 500 to 750 RPM past that point.

Really depends on the car.

Some turbo cars start losing boost at high RPM so I shift earlier.

I shift really late with high reving N/A engines like the Integra Type-R. You really get a good boost when pushing that engine deep into the redline.

But the majority of the time, I usually shift about 300-500 RPM past redline.

How about downshifting? When did you all get it just right? I never noticed when I started doing it spot-on, instead of doing it too soon or too late. I usually end up at 7500-9000 rpms when I downshift on pretty much all gears when approaching a hairpin in like 5th-6th.
