tha_conNo he doesn't because NO ONE has a development kit for it yet, NO ONE. Sony hasn't even finalized the specs, let alone released anything solid. All that has been given to developers as of now is a "projected specification" and the fact that it will use the Blu-Ray disc.
I mean, in all seriousness, if they gave you all the little nit picky things you ask for, and took away the great physics engine...I'm sure even then you would complain...
Uhm, things like how the cars react on different types of tarmac and water/snow/dirt can be added to the physics engine, it doesn't require that much work, and also damage wouldn't be really hard to do.tha_conWeather changes will require a new physics engine. Period. Because wind, water, etc will effect the way the car sticks to the pavement, and how accelleration etc work w/the car, so no, they will not do this for the first release on a next gen-console, they just spent years recreating a new physics engine, I doubt we'll see rain/snow/wind, at least with a lot of realistic effecfts.
And Damage won't be in GT5. The work involved would require it to come out in Late 07/early 08, sony will not miss out on the money maker like that. Everyone will be dissappointed with GT5, expect that.
They will complain about everything that isn't right etc etc etc...even tho progress is there, since it didn't come all in one bundle they will still complain...blah.
Well I still have to see the GT physics engine simulate a race car properly instead of a daihatsu cuore or whatever.tha_conI still don't see why the vast majority of this website is so concerned with minute details instead of the actual physics of a driving simulator...it really confuses me.

tha_conBlu-Ray is projected to be the new standard for disc media. Sony (one of the key elements in developing the format) hopes to convert it to the standard to replace DVD.
A DVD Disc holds appox. 4.7GB of information. Blu-Ray Format discs hold roughly 30GB.
Solid LiftersSeveral gaming magazines reported several game makers, which includes PD, recieved pre-dev kits on or before E3 2003. At this years E3, several more gaming companies recieved them. Though no final dev kits have been developed, or handed out yet, some game companies are hard at work making games and game engines. This is very old news.
Same here. That is what the PS2 was supposed to be, but...LoudMusicI still want to see a "media device" attachable to a television that 'does it all'. But I fear my wish will never be packaged by a major manufacturer.

Sony said the PS2 will be the "PC of the future."
It's OK. I thought everbody knew about it. It's kind of cool what Sony is doing. They're make "game engines" so smaller game companies can purchase a pre-made one instead of spending all that time and money making one. I bet PD, Konami and others are busy making some to sell to Sony. All of this possible.GTXLRThought you meant the full dev kit.
Sorry Solid.
code_kevSony were talking ****.
Solid LiftersSame here. That is what the PS2 was supposed to be, but...
You know the whole reason MS got into the video game console market was what they heard from a Sony press release when they first announced the PS2. Sony said the PS2 will be the "PC of the future." MS heard that and said, "We need to enter this market." Now look. No "PC of the future" in the slightest.
Yes, they were handed something to get started. True, that can't be called dev kits like the norm, but several game companies HAVE been given something to get them started.tha_conAgain, no one has a development kit, everyone has denied it, they have projected specs. Sony has never sent out a development kit.
Sony gave out minimum expected standards, and developers will begin work based off that. The same thing happened with the PS2, prior to it's unvieling, no one had anything on PS2 ALL VIDEOS WERE CREATED on HOMEMADE DevKits, basically the developers worked with what PS2 was supposed to be and created teasers of the "projected" specs of the PS2, and the same thing will be present for PS3. We'll start to see teasers.
It's just funny to hear someone say sony has released dev kits for a system that isn't even close to final yet. You do realize they JUST finished DEVELOPING the laser in May of 04? That they announced it would use Blu-Ray in Sep of 04?
ALL Screens/info on PS3 games are running on PC emulated hardware, that matches the expected specs...so whatever magazine you have read, I would quit reading, it's credibility is going down hill.
What's funny is you are saying they have dev kits...yet in the November issue of OPM, many developers clearly stated they do not know what PS3 will feature, and simply gave hopes of what it will have, I believe on was Konami, a Powerhouse developer...wonder why they didn't get a dev kit...hmmm.....because no one did.
No, Sony was. Ha. MS just slapped something together to get into the market. But, Sony said nobody would buy a PC like what we still have today. They said the PC would be some sort of gaming console slash PC. It's stll possible, but I doubt it will ever happen.LoudMusicSo MS were going to make a PC of the future with parts from yesteryear? Sounds about like their standard procedure.
Solid LiftersSony announced some time ago Blue-Ray will be the driver for the next Sony gaming console. Currently, BD (Blue-Ray Device) will hold 27GB on one single layer disc, and 54GB on one dual layered disc. However, BD version 2 will store up to 40GB on one single layer disc and 80GB on one dual layered disc. This is far more than what the PS3 will need. So, Sony is debating the idea of coming out with a compact version of the BDv2. Instead of a 12mm disc, and 8mm disc. But, this is only a rumor, but a good logical one. Sony stated in a press release that they don't want the PS3 to be a "movie player" device. Makes sense if Sony is trying to make a profit selling BD players for movies, but not if they want to make a profit selling BD movie discs.
tha_conSorry to bicker but I love to argue.
PS3 will play movies. Period. It was announced in April of 04 that it will be backwards compatible with PS1 and 2. Thus it will play DVD's. Also, SCEE president and COO, David Reeves commented that there may be two possible PS3's avalabile for launch. One being the standard Game/Video player, ala PS2, and the other, being a "home server" basically consisting of wireless functions, and onboard HDD etc.
Also, not doubting you, but I would like to see where you got your info for BDv2...because thus far, neither the official, nor the non official blu-ray sites have announced this...
http://www.blu-raydisc.com/Section-13627/Index.html
As many sites state, there are 27GB formates, and 50GB formates, as well as a 54GB format...the only other format that is under development is the quadlayer BluRay disc, which is supposed to hold approx. 100GB (25 GB perlayer), but this is not final nor complete, simply in research and development stage.
when will we see GT5?
T5-RYes, Betamax is the future, today. 💡
See my bud at the local super market who has inside info sent me this pic of the latest GT5 build tape :

Sony in a press report stated "Betamax videos give the optimium media quality that next generation consoles need, this is why we switched from the obsolete Blu-Ray format. GT5 will feature 3D people which not only stand at the side of track but also live out their lives when you turn off your PS3. This utilises the new Lifestyle Engine (TM) that has been incorporated & enabled developers to have life like characters with the touch of a keyboard a few billion times using one of our easy to use development kits"
