Nope, they still have the Legend. And, since the TL we get is just a buffed up Accord, they just have the Inspire, which is the same as our Accord.......

Damn - almost worked.

Acura SLX = Isuzu Trooper
Acura EL = not sold overseas (Honda version is though)

TL is more than a buffed-up Accord to me - the entire design and style is different, plus the engine.

Was the Navajo even sold in NA?

Indeed it was - though it has zero brand presence. One thing Ford still hasn't latched on to is that no SUV based on the Explorer will ever succeed - there's been three and they've all sold in dismal numbers.

I've got a list of 300 super-rare used cars and the Navajo makes the list, though it's one of the more depressing members of it (though the 85-88 Plymouth Caravelle is giving it a run). Mazda made a lot of mistakes in the 1990s and the Navajo is a glaring one.

One of the more interesting things about the Navajo is that the term 're-badged' has never been so accurate. Ford would literally build Explorers without a grille, tail lights, and steering wheel and send it to Mazda, who would screw all that stuff in and sell it at dealers. For the first couple years the damn thing's cassette player had a Ford logo on it.

Was the Navajo even sold in NA? I've never seen one, but there are a lot of 'USA but not Canada' cars.

It's another "USA but not Canada" car. We never got the Navajo.

(but the Plymouth Caravelle was introduced in 1983 in Canada, two years before the US launch, and Caravelle was also the name of the Plymouth version of the Dodge Diplomat that we got in 1977, three years before the US got the equivalent Gran Fury :p )

Oops, my bad. I wasn't thinking about the fact that the TL was just redesigned. I'm talking about the previous models. From the time it was called the Vigor here, up until the latest redesign, what we called the Acura TL was called the Honda Inspire in Japan. My bad about the new car, I completely forgot it recently changed. They don't get a version of that car, as far as I know.

HA HA HA!!!!! I remember the SLX. Even back in those days, back when I didn't know much about cars, I thought that car was a bad idea. Turns out, apparently Acura is the only ones that thought it was a GOOD one. HA

And, yea, the Acura EL is just the Honda Civic with a little fluff on the inside and out. And, isn't Canada the only place its sold??? Thats just funny as well.

Indeed - but that model was Canada only and the Gran Fury wasn't that unusual - plus my list's cut-off is 1982, so I disregard the previous model.

I'm not sure if getting the Caravelle early is something to brag about, either. :p I didn't even know the US got the vehicle until some neighbors bought one in November and I did a little research. Now it's sitting at the end of my block just waiting for me to take a picture of it...

Actually Mercedes thought it was a good idea when they copied it to make the ML320, which was first sold in 1998. I don't care what anyone else says - I will swear to my dying day that the Acura SLX and the Land Rover Discovery are solely responsible - the former more than the latter - for the premium SUV game in the United States.

Indeed - it's Canada-only, fortunately. I've considered buying one. Frankly if I was ever in that segment, new or used, and lived in a northern state, as I do, I'd get one for the sheer novelty (its resale is lower than a Volvo S40 and it's more reliable, and it's a good Infiniti G20 competitor). I've been scouting AutoTrader recently for a Chrysler Intrepid for the same purpose, though up here they're not that rare - I'd say one out of every thirty Intrepids is the Canadian version.

I had to ask because I've been noticing that a few cars share names with other products.

Lincoln Continental

and then the Bentley Continental GT

The Contenental:1954 and the Citroen XM

There was also a period of time when the Cavalier had a 2.4-liter engine. I think it was used in the Cavalier Z24 for a few model years.

Yeah, and the Z71 package comes with a 7.1 liter engine and the Camaro Z28 only came with a 2.8 liter engine

The Z24 package included a body kit, spoiler, larger rims, wider lower-profile tires, suspension upgrades, etc. Mostly a cosmetic upgrade other than the suspension ... The Z24 package was only available with the top-line motor, which was optional on all other Cavaliers ...

The 90-94 Z24s had a 3.1 liter V6 ...
The 96-01 Z24s had a 2.4 liter I4 ...
The 02-05 Z24s have a 2.2 liter I4 ...

The newer Cavaliers have a Z22 package as well, which is pretty much the same except lesser (15" aluminum wheels instead of 16" aluminum wheels and no suspension upgrades) ...

And, of course, the Z71 package is an off-road package available for GM Trucks and the Z28 came with a 5.7 liter V8 ...

When I said "a few model years" I was indeed referring to the 96-01 Cavalier Z24, not all Z24s -- but I appreciate the info though. Do you know of any cars that share their names with other cars/products?

The newer Cavaliers had a Z22 package as well, although I'm unsure of what's different from the Z24 package ...

Again, thanks for the info.
