To me it is utter ****. I'm serious, autotune, lip-synching, same message "Party every night and love that girl/boy you meet" Of course not ALL pop is bad (example: Michael Jackson) but most of it is garbage (example: Katy Perry, Justin B*****, and anything else you hear on the Pop radio)

The thing that bothers me is the amount of attention and appreciation that something with absolutely no artistic merit gets. Is it really too much to ask for some people to write their own songs, and actually sing in tune?

I haven't heard anything 'pop' in a while. It's always R&B :indiff:

But from what I do hear time to time, it's horrible.

I find it hard to define, music definitions are not that clear and artist are supposed to break out of boxes and create new things.

e.g. Beyonce will be classified R&B, but I find a lot of that stuff Popy sounding. Similarly I find some U2 quite Popy. Michael Jackson used to be Soul, before being king of Pop.

In the end Pop is not very convincing for me, never was. e.g. Jessy J, I have trouble to see the point.

However there are some songs of every pop artist that I can appreciate though, it just seems to be a minority of their songs.

I don't like it at all. That's why I don't listen to the radio. Sometimes they play some good songs on MTV, but otherwise it's crap.

There really isn't a genre of music I don't like.

I don't dislike genres, I just dislike particular songs. I dislike most of the songs I have heard of this genre, though.

So I would say I hate this genre.

I hate modern pop, I even managed to break a stereo because it was playing Ke-dollar sign- sha.

The thread title clearly says it all. Most of the people might can't stand for it here and I'll go with the majority.

The entertainment world has left the golden age anyway, not much reason left to listen to it.

This. I don't like a lot of it, but Katy Perry is okay sometimes 👍. That's about it though.

I have difficulty writing off an entire genre as a whole. Sure, a lot of it is garbage(not the band, they're actually good), but there are still a few gems out there that are worth listening to.

Due to the lack of a 'Some is good, some is bad' option I am unable to vote on the poll. :indiff:

But really, some is alright where as some is just downright terrible. And head aching. :ouch:

You people have no taste in music.I mean like pop better than Heavy metal and Scremo music!

I'd rather listen to any awesome death metal band than a stupid song with autotuned vocals and a beat that sounds like utter 🤬

Some are fine, some are awful....I like Born this Way or Only Girl... If the singing is fine, I'm okay with it.

Raise your Glass isn't too bad, Firework as well....

Ugh...there is a really annoying, unfunny and cocky radio presenter here in Ireland, Ray Foley, who plays nothing BUT pop music. On those rare occasions that he plays anything else, he usually keeps talking until about 30 seconds in or he starts talking about 30 seconds from the end.

Pop doesn't really exist anymore, RnB mixed with Dance has become mainstream music. Also this seems to be the decade of the autotune because pretty much every song in the top charts this year has used it so much that people should be arrested!

I have to say though I don't mind this music, its for light listening in the car etc and its good at nightclubs. There are a few which are quite catchy and pretty reasonable so its not all terrible.

Too true, music is becoming very computer ruled. Let's all go back to the days of just instruments and a voice. Some effects are okay computer wise e.g. on bass and electric guitars or keyboards but over voices to falsely the singing quality isn't good at all. Therefore I feel modern pop music is a bit of a let down

People are always going to complain about modern pop music, it's no different now than it was 10 years ago or 10 years before that. There's some good stuff out there in every genre.

edit:10 bucks says you're still in high school and love punk or metal. i was that kid once.

Not too good.I pretty much dislike much of the modern music.

There is a few select bands like Trivium,All That Remains and some of the local cover bands around here i like, but that modern stuff just isn't for me.

To be honest i prefer listening to the Rolling Stones,Beatles,Led Zeppelin,Lynyrd Skynyrd,ZZ Top,Bon Scott AC/DC and stuff like that.Bands like these will always be better to listen to than that Modern Stuff.

I can handle it. Nothing really intolerable...that and my crush on Dev. :p

There should be a "I like some of it" option. Lady Gaga is a really talented musician. Ke$ha, not so much. Justin Bieber, no thanks. Rihanna and Katy Perry, okay sometimes. Black Eyed Peas made some good stuff. Britney Spears isn't doing anything interesting anymore. Beyonce is sometimes good. Those are about all the pop musicians relevant to me right now.

Have a listen to this:

It's a pop musician, singing a pop song, but it's not really pop music you're listening to. Pop music these days needs to be danceable, and sometimes that sacrifices the musicality of a song, or even the musician themselves. But usually it's still nice to listen to (in my opinion of course).

I don't like it.
And that's coming from a fourteen year old.
They dont make music to make music anymore (or at least most of them).
They make it for the money, and the Twitter followers.

Lady Gaga is just someone who took basic piano lessons and dresses in weird crap to make up for her lack of music knowledge and talent.
