PD seems to have an obsession with this car. It is literally every other car in the UCD at times(or one of its MANY variants). They have an A-spec championship race dedicated to it. They also have an endurance race dedicated to it. Who wants to drive that terd for four hours straight? They could have used that slot for the endurance race at dubai or sebring. Am I the only one that gets a little mad when I cycle the UCD looking for a car, and the lineup is chock full of incredibly pedestrian roadsters?

I love the Miata, but hate how PD pleasures it by including 4 Career Events AND a Seasonal! Have some variety for god's sake! However, stuff a small block in the thing and it'll shred anything on the streets.

There's a series based around this car that is quite popular, talk to them. The Dubai or Sebring part is not possible due to not having the tracks.

It's a fun little car that thousands/millions love. (Real life and in the game) Get over it.

Also, rant threads like this won't last much long and attitudes like that too.

Its a case of Mind over Miata.

Seriously the car is a classic, even if it is the lowest rung of Hairdresser transport.

If Lotus had made it and called it the Elan... rather than making some hodge podge front wheel drive thing and calling that fat blubberguts the Elan, then who knows... but at least they pulled their finger out to make the Elise.

Since those tracks are totally in the game, so it would have been easy for PD to make that race. Don't get me wrong: The exposure of Miatas in the game, due to the dupes and amount of races in the game they get when other cars go completely without, is pretty much just obnoxious.



But calling what is probably one of the most dominant cars at the lower PP levels a turd? Complaining that PD should have included stuff that was impossible for them to include instead? Come on now.

The Miata has been around for nearly 23 years. That's a lot longer than many of the people posting have been alive. Mazda has built and sold nearly a Million of these cars around the world. That's probably as many cars as Ferrari ever produced.

The Miata is a popular race car with many series' devoted to this one make. The Miata also competes favorably in club races and autocross events. There are more Miatas raced than any other car.

Disliking the Miata is like disliking automobile racing.

PD is based in Japan (I think, I could be wrong???) They like japanese cars. If its not a patriotic thing, then you can most certainly tell where the money changed hands during the development of the game (I'm looking at you Ferrari, Nissan)
I would love to see a Rolls-Royce in the game personally. You might say "Its a luxury car" but there are plenty of counterexamples to that. the chrysler 300C and others.

I like automobile racing and I dislike the Miata.

Yes the number of variations in the game is a bit much, but it's a large part of Japanese motoring history and this game is made by a Japanese company. Go figure.

If GT5 had only a few maitas that would be fine. However, why do they need to add so many! I don't know anyone that would enjoy GT5 with 50 variations of the GT by Citroën.

Good point, there are only a few of those, thus the car seems more exotic and special. If there weren't so many MX-5's laying around, I would probably hold the car in much higher regard.

EA holds the license for the Porsche brand. They have been known to sell it out to other games (aka Forza) but they probably want too much for it and PD/Sony are not willing to pay the price.

Having less Miatas does not mean the same thing as having more of any other cars. Even the two Premium NA models are close enough to each other that PD didn't spend that much time making the second one.

The car is incredibly popular, that explains why PD have events dedicated to the car. The MX-5 was a revival of the lightweight, affordable and fun sports car genre that was once occupied by marques such as Triumph and MG. At the time of its release in the late eighties, the MX-5 didn't have much competition and practically had a whole market segment to itself. It became popular due to it's mix of fun, affordability, reliability and styling. It also managed to succeed at the difficult task of appealing to a wide demographic, women loved it for its 'cute' styling and men loved it for its old school charm and fantastic handling. Mazda got it very right with the first gen MX-5.

I personally prefer the MG TF and Lotus Elise, but I respect the MX-5 a lot for reviving the lightweight roadster segment.

So, in answer to your original question... A lot of people like the MX-5 and that is why there are so many in the game and also why it has dedicated events.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but the miata endurance race was one of my favorites, and I love miata's. I used to be like you, I used to hate the miata, and I actually still make fun of people who enjoy driving low horsepower slow cars, especially Kei cars (I mean seriously, you got to have a boring life if you prefer kei cars over supercars like some people do) but the Miata is legit. PD has no shame about their car selection though, no other developer is anywhere near as biased as they are. I like the miata but just not enough to justify there being more than 10 in gt5, PD is crazy biased about all Japanese cars.

It's rear wheel drive and light, with a short wheelbase. That's a good combo. It's one of the most fun cars to drive with below 200hp besides a lotus or caterham. In iracing, its the car you start out with, and its tons of fun there. The spec miata series is great.

Seriously, if you still don't like miata's, get the first DLC car pack. The MX 5 Touring Car is probably the best in the entire pack, no joke. Or take the newest miata in the premium dealership, and tune it to the max. If you don't have fun with it, stop using racing soft tires, because no car is meant to fun with that much grip bro

Ok! Found the question. No, I do not get mad when I see the UCD full of "pedestrian roadsters"

This is a rant thread. Also, My point is I play GT5 to drive exclusive supercars, and racecars I may never get the opportunity to drive. Not the affordable roadster.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but the miata endurance race was one of my favorites, and I love miata's.
