Couldn't find any good ones.. all the other ones were about bieng gay..

But I do like it. They're fun to drive.

+1 👍

+1 👍

I forget which thread, but I saw a picture of the results screen for a guy that won the Laguna Seca endurance race (I think thats the one) with a Daihatsu Midget. That's where this needs to go^

This is a rant thread. Also, My point is I play GT5 to drive exclusive supercars, and racecars I may never get the opportunity to drive. Not the affordable roadster.

Gran Turismo has never focused on supercars and racecars, Lamborghini and Ferrari are very recent additions to the series. You may not like the normal, lower-powered cars, but a lot of us do like them and those cars are an integral part of the series. If you don't like them, then don't use them. It's that simple.

I love the car not because of the power but because of the driving feel, useful for beginners who start loving Touge or Racing, JDM and etc. It's like the AE86(No not cause of Initial D), both lightweight cars & both low powered inline-4 engines with 1.6L(Early Eunos, not the 94 and later 1.8L Eunos) Wonder who could win.

It's arguably one of the best cars ever made.

Steady on now. It's one of the greatest little roadsters ever made but in general? Not even close.

That's exactly what I thought. Oh yeah, and running videogame avatars FTW.

You are on the wrong game though, as has been said. If I'm not mistaken there's Supercar Challenge (or something) for PS3.

Miatas are great little cars, that while I don't drive them, I like them. I don't get annoyed at the number of them on the UCD either.

PD is based in Japan (I think, I could be wrong???) They like japanese cars. If its not a patriotic thing, then you can most certainly tell where the money changed hands during the development of the game (I'm looking at you Ferrari, Nissan)
By your logic then, Forza 4 should have a million Corvettes. F1 2011 should only have the British F1 cars. TDU2 should be only full of Renaults and Citroens.

There can be many reasons why a particular manufacture might be "over-represented" in racing games. I'm guessing it's because 1) KY grew up around Japanese cars, and so prefer them over others, and 2) because it's easy to make deals with native car makers.
I would love to see a Rolls-Royce in the game personally. You might say "Its a luxury car" but there are plenty of counterexamples to that. the chrysler 300C and others.
Don't we all want something in life.

This.

I like Miata's, wish there were more of them!

I like the mx5. Is it fun to drive? Yes. Do we need 30 variants of it? Absolutely not. Same goes for skylines though.

I have no problem with there being so many MX5's in the UCD, you're not forced to buy them, although for some reason I can't fathom my other half has decided to collect all of them.

In real life, when we were looking for a two seater roadster, we did contemplate the MX5, for about five minutes, but went for the MR2 instead as we preferred the look and the RR configuration.

Technically, it's MR not RR, as the engine is ahead of the rear axle.

D'oh. I meant MR. That will teach me to post in a hurry when I'm heading off for work!

Yeah it's alright but they over did it a bit.

In this case it's really very simple indeed.

There were eleven Mazda Roadsters and Eunos Roadsters (the NA/Mk1 was sold under Mazda's sporting "Eunos" brand in Japan) in Gran Turismo 4.

  • Mazda Eunos Roadster '89
  • Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited '91
  • Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited II '93
  • Mazda Eunos Roadster V-Special '93
  • Mazda Eunos Roadster S-Special '95
  • Mazda Eunos Roadster VR Limited '97
  • Mazda Eunos Roadster SR Limited '97
  • Mazda Roadster 1.8 RS '98
  • Mazda Roadster 1800 RS '00
  • Mazda Roadster 1600 NR-A '00
  • Mazda Roadster 1800 RS '04

There are subtle enough differences between 9 of those cars to allow them to represent 9 different cars, so that's largely fair enough. Of course if you played the NTSC-UC version these were renamed to Mazda MX-5 Miata for you, just so you'd heard of them.

  • Mazda MX-5 Miata '89
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited '91
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited II '93
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata V-Special '93
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata S-Special '95
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata VR Limited '97
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata SR Limited '97
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata 1.8 RS '98
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata 1800 RS '00
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata 1600 NR-A '00
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata 1800 RS '04

But then if you played the PAL version you won't have heard of "Miatas", so they renamed them to Mazda MX-5 for you.

  • Mazda MX-5 '89
  • Mazda MX-5 J-Limited '91
  • Mazda MX-5 J-Limited II '93
  • Mazda MX-5 V-Special '93
  • Mazda MX-5 S-Special '95
  • Mazda MX-5 VR Limited '97
  • Mazda MX-5 SR Limited '97
  • Mazda MX-5 1.8 RS '98
  • Mazda MX-5 1800 RS '00
  • Mazda MX-5 1600 NR-A '00
  • Mazda MX-5 1800 RS '04

So each of us had the cars with which we were familiar. Of course there was a minor issue in that those trim leves only actually exist on the Roadster and not the Miata or MX-5, but we largely ignored that because it wasn't relevant. We didn't notice that all the Mk1/NA models had Eunos badges either, even though they should have carried the Eternal Flame for the MX-5 and Miata models.

Now along came GTPSP. GTPSP effectively had GT4's car list but allowed network and online play and that posed a minor problem - a Japanese player could drive a Eunos Roadster SR Limited that a European gamer wouldn't have, where the European could have a Mazda MX-5 1.8 RS '98 that an American gamer wouldn't have and the American could drive a Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited '93 that the Japanese gamer wouldn't have. Unless the cars the players could use were the same on every disc and thus the same in every region, there could be instability in the online play.

So apparently what they decided to do was smoosh together all of the car lists from all of the GT4 regions - they could have optimised it so that we had one of each model, or just got rid of the non-existant Miata and MX-5 trim levels, but they chose to represent all eleven cars from each region.

Bam. 33 MX-5s.

Nail on the new, 2007 NC generation car - though they've inexplicably called it the Mazda Roadster when Mazda themselves call it the MX-5 worldwide - and there's your 34 Mazda MX-5s. The NC TC is a different kettle of fish, but you can call it a 35th if you wish.

If you thrust GT5 at me and told me to drive any one car from the 1,100 I have round any given track, I'd pick the Eunos Roadster NA '89 that I've upgraded to ~480PP. It is just about perfect to drive and makes me hanker after another real NA MX-5. So yes, I like the MX-5 thanks.

Amazingly, despite the proliferation of them, there are still only thirteen "different" ones (all the Japanese trim levels) and they have left out all of the excellent European and North American variants - the NA MX-5 BBR (Brodie Brittain Racing) Turbo 1.6, the NB.5 MX-5 Splash Green, the NB.5 MX-5 Icon, the NA MX-5 Berkeley, the NA MX-5 Monza, the NB.5 Miata Mazdaspeed, the NB MX-5/Roadster 10th Anniversary Edition (this car is gorgeous), the NB.5 MX-5 Jasper Conran and the most epic MX-5 of them all, the NA MX-5 Le Mans:

mx5_1.jpg

Based on the 1.6 BBR Turbo, painted with an orange base and green decals (and a Le Mans winners' wreath) to celebrate the 1991 victory of the Mazda 787B, there are only 24 of these in the world (23 now - one was destroyed by arsonists) - though four were repainted before they even left the factory (I've met the black one) and one is now wholly orange.

Incidentally gamers might like to note that, as a proportion of the car list, GT5 has the least Japanese cars and GT1 the most - and each full game in-between has less the newer it is. GT5 has the most European cars and GT1 the least - and each full game in-between has more the newer it is. GT5 has the most North American cars and GT1 the least - and each full game in-between has more the newer it is with the exception of GT3, which has marginally fewer than GT2. Essentially complaints about "too many Japanese cars" makes less sense for each subsequent game in the series...

I love the Miata more than Veyron's, Skyline's and all the overpowered cars.

I love the premium Roadster model and the TC one.

Now go to your room.

Good for YOU. YOU however, aren't Polyphony's whole market.

I acknowledge this I'm just saying what I would like to see in the game, and seeing if other people would like to see the same.

As for the rest, I was not aware of GT5's heritage in the non-supercar/racecar area. I didn't have any idea the older games were like this, and now I understand why the selection of cars is there the way it is. I just discovered the series with GT5. Sorry, I was having a crappy day yesterday, and I had to vent my anger on something, this time it was an innocent roadster.

Now go to your room.

NO.

Also, Don't get me wrong, I like Japanese cars and other cars from that region. The GT-R is among my favorites and the Lexus LFA was my favorite for a while. I love most mazdas. I would not mind owning an RX-8 or something one day.

Corvettes? As for Miatas, I like them a lot, but I would have been fine with the three in the premium dealer+ the TC and NB, that would make a total of 5 Miatas, which I'm sure we'd all be happy with.

There's 13 Corvettes in GT5.

A few minor points. There's no Miatas in the new dealer and no Miata TC - semantics, yes, but that's part of the problem PD faced when coming up with the PSP car list...

The two NAs (Eunos Roadsters both) in the new dealer are both 1.6s - there's no Premium NA 1.8. If you added an NB of any flavour, you'd be missing an engine too - add the 1.6 and you miss the 1.8, add the 1.8 and you miss the 1.6 - and even then you'll be missing the NB.5. The Premium NC is a 2.0 - missing the 1.8 model - and labelled as a Roadster despite all NCs being MX-5s.

To properly represent MX-5s you would need, at minimum:
NA 1.6 (1989-1998)
NA 1.8 (1994-1998)
NB 1.6 (1998-2001)
NB 1.8 (1998-2001)
NB.5 1.6 (2001-2005)
NB.5 1.8 (2001-2005)
NC 1.8 (2005-2009)
NC 2.0 (2005-2009)
NC PRHT 1.8 (2006-2009)
NC PRHT 2.0 (2006-2009)
NC.5 1.8 (2009-)
NC.5 2.0 (2009-)
NC.5 PRHT 1.8 (2009-)
NC.5 PRHT 2.0 (2009-)

And even then you run into the problem of which badge the NAs get - Eunos Roadster, Miata or MX-5 - and which badge the NBs get - Roadster, Miata or MX-5. There are genuine differences between the three badges that GT doesn't account for fully. And even then you're still missing out on the differences between the early 1.6 (115hp) and the late EDM 1.6 (90hp), and the European MX-5-only BBR 1.6 turbo (150hp), and the North American Miata-only Mazdaspeed 1.8 turbo (180hp).

If I was in charge of the MX-5 section of GT5, you'd have a great deal more than 35 MX-5s - but they'd all be different, not regionally, erroneously rebadged ones. And then most would be cut for licensing reasons... :D

Now I know why mods are mods. Be it famine, scaff, slipztream, daan. Amazing knowledge!! Though toronado also seems to fit right in as walking encyclopedia.
I fancy myself as car enthusiast and drives a Mazda but this level of knowledge is jaw dropping. sorry off topic but just can't help it.

Both of your MX-5 posts are fantastic. Thanks for sharing, Famine.

Just one thing:

What about that Mazdaspeed versions on GT2? I really miss these in GT5... same as the RX-7 A-spec.

MX5 Miata A Spec (J)
MX5 Miata B Spec (J)
MX5 Miata C Spec (J)

They seem to be very rare as its hard to find pics of them.

Well, for a little bit at least. I think it was that way for only about a year before Mazda USA went back to calling it the "full" name.

I like the MX-5. I don't know why some people say its boring to drive, maybe it's the people that only drive their cars on RS tire's giving the car too much grip. They should try tires with less grip and set the car up to oversteer a little, or maybe it's the controller user's in that case I'd advise you to get a wheel, racing is so much more fun with one
