Hi guys,

Now to start off, I'd just like to say that I am as big of a GT fan as the next guy. I've lived, ate, and breathed GT ever since the days of GT1, so I was anxious as anyone else to get my hands on GT4. I've been around forums for years and know how it when a n00b comes on with 0 posts, but I'm going to speak the truth.

I got GT4 today at about 4:00 PM. And ya know what? I'm not impressed. I honestly don't like it.

For one, the gameplay/driving in GT4 is just...weird. I really can't describe it, but I hate it. I know it will take time to get used to it, just like the changes from 1 to 2 to 3, but the first time I popped in either one of the first three, I don't remember NOT liking the driving style. GT4, however, is just awkward. Even though I know I'll get used to it, it has left a bad taste in my mouth.

The gauges also suck harcore. In GT3, I liked to be very precise with my shift-points. In GT4, there aren't even hatches for every 100 RPM! 👎

But the one thing that REALLY pisses me off though is the autosave crap. I tried "normal" and "restricted" or whatever from the options menu, and its the same thing. The game automatically saves/overrites when you buy/sell a car. WTF is that?! I'd like to chose when I want the game info to be saved, thank you. This means you cant just mess around and buy cars and mod them for the hell of it when you have no intentions of keeping it. Or, if you just wanna sell a few cars to buy one nice car which you can't afford otherwise. With this, it will automatically save whenever you buy/sell anything. Lame.

I honestly thought I was going to be playing the game all night, but in all honesty, I popped GT3 back in after about an hour and a half.

Thanks for ruining the best racing series there was, Sony. :grumpy:

If there is one thing you guys can help me on, it is the saving issue. Maybe I'm just mistaken? But how do you get it back to the previous style, where it ONLY saves when you tell it to?

You live with the autosave. I did with the Japanese version. Even though I had a backup save on another memory card (one way round the problem, though you have to reload the game).

I'm severely dissapointed too....
I don't understand why all the delays occurred, I don't see ANYTHING new or great, just a bunch of little things, I would call this GT3 expansion pack (more crappy jpn cars, and more tracks).

Pros:
++++
+The Licence trials are easier
+The physics seem better
+The courses look better
+MORE cars

Cons:
-------
-SOOO many stupid cars I don't care about, yet NO production Cadillacs, no C6, sooo many Great American cars are missing!
-No damage still kills this game as being the "real racing sim"
-It's got the same STUPID AI drivers,
-Just like GT3 I STILL don't get a good sense of speed out there!
-hardly a difference in graphics.
-The music sucks (Who here DIDN't turn it off right away!!!)
-The engines sound isn't great.
-Autosaves does indeed suck
-I haven't played with the photo mode and don't expect I will.

JJDD: Sorry to hear that you HATE the game. The physics aren't that bad, just take a little getting used to. Brakes lock if you overdo it. etc etc. I didn't like it at first, but I'm fine now though. First impressions can mean alot though.

Gauges.. I like em.. there's a frikken G ball!!!! hahaha... and you can see your throttle and brake control on-screen while racing now. Seems like a plus to me.

I do agree with you on one thing.. Autosave blows.. also if you try to save your memory to a new card, the special cars don't show up. T__T So much for the memory card trick....

There's a good difference in visuals in my opinion. Gt4 just looks so much more natural than gt3. Gt3 compared to gt4 looks like an arcade racer.

TruSake
shut the fu`ck up
and! my game never autosaves, cuz I did put restricted

Harsh words. He was just putting his opinion across.

haha I'm enjoying GT4 and you guys are not haha I rule. Now back to getting my S license.

Mmm ... very constructive and witty riposte, TruSake.

As it happens, the reports that are starting to come out from the other side of the Atlantic are making me a little apprehensive about the fact that both I and Lady S have GT4 on pre-order.

JJDD's comments back up some of my concerns. The AutoSave issue is a real problem if, like me and many others, you like to gauge your car against the opposition so as to make more of a race of it. That's going to cost in-game cash, waste game days and turn your win ratio into a battle zone :(.

I'm hoping that the physics engine is more to my tastes tho'. I tend to drive utilising weight transfer quite a bit and set my cars up accordingly so if the game emphasises the suspension movements more than GT3 did then I might actually approve of that !

I don't think that the gauges will bother me much, I have to say. I change gear by 'ear' rather than 'eye', so as long as I can clearly see if the revs are dropping too far during gear shifts then that'll be fine.

I'm sad that you don't like what PD have done, JJDD and hope that I won't be similarly upset when the PAL release finally emerges.

I also feel this to be just a GT3 expansion. Nothing that is really crazy amazing in this game, just more of what GT3 was already good at.

I thought the physics sucked at first too, when I was overshooting turns like mad, until I realized what was happening: the weight transfer is more pronounced in GT4, when you hit the brakes, your view dips lots more than in GT3. I guess I didn't realize it, but in GT3 I used that dip to tell me how hard I was braking. Additionally, high speeds are much more realistic; a production car with stock suspension going 150mph is probably not going to be as stable as say, an LMP900 car. GT4 captures this quite well. As for the autosave, it doesn't bother me too much; early on I know what cars I want, and later on I'll have the credits to spare to experiment.
I say give it another shot; you're not gonna get the chance to take an M5 to the 'ring in any other game for at least a few months :)

well, this is as REAL as it gets, picture yourself as a salesman at let's say Toyota, then a buyer comes and buys a Celica without paying (without saving), then he tunes it, maybe even wrecks it and drives it for 10.000km and returns it (load a previous save game), now is that real?

There are far too many japanese cars in gt4, as much as I like them I want to see cars that are on the streets in europe in the game.

I'm not a big fan of american cars but if I were american I would want to drive american cars in gt4.

Anyway gt4 is only a couple of weeks away and I have been waiting for 3 years for it! How exciting!!

Fairpoint! It makes the game harder too which means it takes longer to get through which is all good!

Harsh words. He was just putting his opinion across.

^ Bravo!

Whether you like/don't like the graphics/physics 'issues', the main rant would appear to be the SAVE sketch.

There doesn't seem to be a real way to get around it, as some bits appear to be 'misssed' somewhere along the line. So, sad to say, we will have to carry this burden, unless some cunning ploy is found by one of the more intrepid members...

It doesn't suprise me to see a thread like this. When a game have too much change in it, fan complain that it's not like the previous game. When the game is untouch from the previous installement, then the games hasn't change enough. It's hard to please anyone.

I know i have been harsh in the past with GT4. It has his share of problems (bad AI, auto-save, easy to bumping car turn) but overhaul i like the new physics. If you have DFP wheel, you are going to be in heaven. I'm enjoying it very much and that is coming from a xbox forza fan.

JJDD: Sorry to hear that you HATE the game. The physics aren't that bad, just take a little getting used to. Brakes lock if you overdo it. etc etc.

I'm glad the brakes lock up, that's one thing PD didn't do well in the other series. Everything sounds good so far except for the auto save thing. I guess it would be more realistic though. :-) Although I'm kind of glad you can't do the card trick again. I always felt like I was cheating and PD missed something to make the game more challenging. I'm just like that though, the more difficult, the longer the race, etc, the more I like it.... There will be features some people hate and the same other will love. It's that way with every edition to the game to some extent. Sorry you're not feeling it just yet, maybe it will grow on you...

While I try to avoid negative threads like this one I feel compelled to write that in my opinion, the original post on this one is completely wrong. The restricted save works. The physics are now much more realistic, so if you can't drive on the road, you probably won't like the game as much. The graphics are probably the best we're gonna see on the PS2. The force feedback is 10 times better than in GT3, and the car selection is amazing. And on that, there's over 700 cars, so you can't expect to like all of them, and after giving up so easily, I wouldn't imagine the you could have taken THAT much time to find one you like. It's not the perfect game, but the thought of going back to GT3 is laughable. I think it's pretty sad that someone would start a thread like this after playing the game for such a short time anyway. Then again, I guess relentless whining is one of the main purposes of forums, isn't it?

JJDD, I think you need to give it some more time. Get used to the gameplay and then judge it. 1.5 hours of playing and then popping GT3 back in isn't enough time to get a decent impression of the game.

Guess who made the game? The JAPANESE?
They are allowed to put their cars in it as much as they like. Until a company from the US or England for that matter makes a game that's better than GT you're going to have to live with the abundance of Japanese cars

I have the japanese version since 31st Dec.
- 👍 AUTOSAVE : I didn't like it at first, but it makes the game more realistic, you can't
reload in reality and I got used to that feature. win ratio : if you win
every race you have 100% if not, then not. reloading is cheating...
- 👎 GAUGES : Yes I also don't like them, I'd prefer a choice (digital/analog).. and
who needs that gforce thing right in front of the exhaust? useless...
- 👍 HANDLING : I really like it, it's realistic and you can feel the weight of the car
- 👍 CARS : well I'd also like to see 1500 cars, but the choice is good; it is just normal
that a japanese game on a japanese console has a lot of japanese cars...

BUT I also think that GT4 is not as great as I've hoped... I don't talk about better grafics or a damage system ( couldn't be realized on PS2) or more cars ( one car took about 2 weeks for PD) or other next generation stuff...what I miss is the spirit of the prequels and the challenge...

👎 NUMBER OF CUPS : might be an illusion, but I think that there are less cups
comparing to older gt's. don't get me wrong, I can count and I
like the factory races, but I want a 4WD, FR FF MR cup in
every hall with different restrictions : ps, weight, country etc...

👎 👎 👎 CHALLENGE : almost no hp restrictions ... I want the game to force the player to
race with specific hp, weight, tires, weights, manufactures
EVERY TIME combined. for example : u have to drive a FF car with
200 hp, max n2 tires with at least 1200 kg and it has to be an
japanese car... I am tired of racing a 350 hp car against 250 ps
cars; has all been discussed before, but Aspec points are
- in my opinion - not the right way to motivate the majority of
players... when I'm not forced to race a lowpower car I won't
and that was way better in GT2... in Gt3 we had better grafics
on a new console, that just isn't enough I've played GT4 until
about 40% and I am not really motivated to go on... It's hard to
put in words.....gt 4 is more work than fun after a while... I hope
PD changes the direction in GT5 on PS3...

I havent got GT4 yet (im located in australia)

Although i do have prologue, so i have somewhat of an idea of the physics system.
The physics system is excellent, anybody who complains about the physics cant get over the fact you have to brake and turn precisely, just as you do in real life.

More cars, More tracks, better graphics
Its all awesome stuff.

But imo, the only thing really bothering me, and im sure 90percent of everyone out there is, this is what GT3 should of been.

GT4 doesnt suck, its just been hyped, and people expected too much

Autosave is very annoying, but as many people here pointed out already, there are ways around this. Anyway, just like in the old Gran Turismo games, most cars are changed slightly. If Gran Turismo was a Real Driving Simulator then cars perform exactly like their real life counterparts. Other than those things I just mentioned I have absolutely no complaints about GT4.

I'm love GT, no complaints so far.
To all of you that are on this forum complaining. Just shut up and go play the game some more and you're love it. Otherwise, stop complaining and return game for a deposit on Forza Motorsport or somethine.

weren't moaning mate. I love gt and nothing will change that, there's loads of european cars anyway. It is quite surprising that it is not more geared to other markets like american and europe as these must make up a huge proportion of the sales.

Well, I don't know, but GT4 felt like a welcome home to me after the wait. Veteran GT players should have little to no problems playing GT4.

fcuking whiney little *****es, livr with what you got, you really think PD was going to fix it that much to make it perfect, YOU DUMB ***** IF SO THEN WHATS THE POINT OF MAKING GT5 IN 3 YEARS! HUH! THEY WOULD BE LOSEING MONEY IF THEY MADE GT4 THE LAST INSTALLMENT! IDIOTS1 I KNEW THERE WAS GOING TO BE A THREAD BY SOME STUPID FORZA PLAYER THAT DOESNT LIKE GT4 CAUSE OF SOME MINOR ADJUSTMENTS , SO LIVE WITH IT OK ! GOD DAMN TREE HUGGERS

This is not necessary. Lose the caps please. FYI I am a Forza fan and I enjoy GT4 so please don't generalize.
