why did they make seasonal events online?

Otherwise, we'd have to download new updates every week.

The seasonal events are not on the game disc so they must be made available through the PlayStation Network, i.e., online. I guess they could be provided as a download in which case the event would not have to take place online, but so far, every seasonal has eventually been closed and made unavailable through an online process anyway.

It's an easier and faster way of doing things.

With the majority of the playerbase being online it makes sense.
