Why do GTP members seem to prefer the Standard BMW M5 '05 over the '08 Premium?

Actually the BMW Z4M is the best street BMW out there. I can beat any of the M's through Nurb with it.

Really?

I did a challenge a few weeks ago.
Nordschleife, any street BMW allowed, all tuning allowed, max sport soft tires.
Since driving aids cannot be checked in a replay, driving aids are allowed.

I wanna see you beat a 6.34.828, driven with an M5 '05
I have the replay if you want it.

Better add that the data used for the '140kg lighter' claim is from mygranturismo.net, not from the game directly... Can anyone verify this from the game itself?

700th post

Bmw didnt make any significant change to the car irl so i doubt the cars in the game would be that drastically different.. i have a 2008 car and find it quite enjoyable, i dont find it necessarily to splurge cash on the lesser quality 2005 when theyre the same car practically

I can confirm that the '05 is faster than the '08 though.
It's only a 4 second difference on the Nordschleife, which is like eehh.. a 400 second track. So maybe 1% slower. But still.. it's slower ;)

Grats on 700 btw :)

After oil change, the '05 M5 has 525 HP and 1715 kg, while the '08 has 509 HP, 1855 kg. So, lose 140kg and gain 16 HP stock... not sure how they end up modded, but the '05 is clearly better stock.

You say 140 KG like it's nothing.

Exactly! Anyone who doubts the effects of extra weight should take their car out, do some reference laps... then do the same laps with 30kg ballast.

It's like dragging John Prescott from a buffet...

300lbs is a lot of extra car. Also, it could just be the every so common "the last generation was the last good generation" mindset.

As the Ms have progressed, they've either A) steadily gotten worse or B) everyone else has caught up.

Case in point, the '11 Mustang GT vs. the '11 M3.
