Why is the karting so hard?

I haven't tried it yet but the Kart space track looked like it was a polished surface like most indoor tracks are.

This would make it very slippery. The kart itself handles incredibly well you just have to learn how to drive it. I imagine driving it without a steering wheel would not be easy though.

These are rather embarrassing posts.

Shame you guys can`t delete them later :sly:
The Kart Space is awesome but totally useless as the karting sucks due to bad handling and you can't drive anything else on it. Please PD, give them TCS. Or don't include karting anymore in any DLC.
Karts are totally wrong. Braking for turn 1 makes the kart understeer into the wall, even if I give it a litle sideways move (through the wheel). Anyone who has ever driven a go-kart knows this is totally wrong, since they only have brakes at the rear axle and you use them to place the car sideways into tight corners.

Oh well, arcady track to arcady karts. Spa alone is worth the track pack.

99% of my online racing has been in the Karts. I find them fun as hell and pretty equal to one another. Makes for quick, fun and competitive races.

I have done a bunch of karting in RL and can only say the karts feel right to me. I've always used a wheel and have no clue what the experience is like with controllers, but I imagine it's close to impossible to get the accuracy required for keeping it balanced properly. Like others have said in RL there is very little steering needed for extremely hard cornering.

+1 . If you could just keep it gassed everywhere without fear of losing the rear it would get boring very quick imo.
👍

Notice when he turns in off the throttle the back end starts to kick before he does the donuts?
The trick would be pedal modulation, and it's something all rear engine cars benefit from, staying on the throttle lightly to turn, keeps the rear in line better.
CLSACR is right on this one. You can't just have wheels slow down that quickly during a turn with such a little kart. It'll become too lose and won't keep the grip it needs to make a good turn.

Actually, Karts are the only vehicles, which I can drive (I only drive with Pad because of a handicap) and still be competitive to wheel users. You only need to learn the tracks, where to brake, where to accelerate and how much you have to steer. Especially awesome on tracks like Cote d'Azur, where you have to avoid the little bumps.

I use a controller and found it quite easy to finesse the kart through corners.

The only problem I have with karting in GT5, is the steering with the DFGT.

I hold the steering wheel from the sides, like normal, but when I go and steer the kart steers more than what I wanted it to.

I then noticed, while in cockpit mode, the guy is holding the steering wheel from the top sides (around the 11 & 2 pose's).

Doing that seemed to steer as much as I wanted, but had to get used to holding the wheel like that. :P

Anyway, I believe the steering for the kart's aren't 900 degrees...but the DFGT only does 900 degrees, thus causing you to turn more in the game.

Try adjusting the steering (or is it controller) sensitivity, the last item in the setup menu (the one where you choose tires, AT/MT, TCS, etc). I use a wheel and have had to adjust it a few times, not yet for karts though, but I am in North America and haven't gotten the DLC and haven't raced online with someone that has the DLC.

That IS for the controller. haha dude, I think it's all been in your head.

If not, then cool, I wanted that to work for the steering wheel.

Karts steering a full 360 degrees with your steering wheel in either direction is pointless.

The karts in GT5 may feel hard because the physics (at least under braking) are totally messed up. All racing karts (excluding shifters) have only rear brakes, so slamming on the brakes would cause the rear to step out, and if proper pedal modulation is used, this can be used to your advantage to get around tight corners.

Lol... karting is easy compared to real life...
I agree to an extent. It's easy compared to real life because you don't feel the physical demands of the sport, but the karts in GT5 act like they have ABS, which sucks 👎 .

How do you get understeer in a GT5 kart? If you turn while on the gas or lifting, they turn in just fine. If you use the brake, they spin or powerslide. The only time I've ever had anything you could consider understeer is when I was going way too fast for a corner(which isn't really understeer). Or is it just a controller vs wheel issue?

Basically, the simulated karting is difficult because karting is difficult. IRL karts are even twitchier and harder to control than they are in GT5... Those brakes on the rear only in most karting leagues... wow, talk about fun. Just keep trying until you get used to it.

The new kart space inspired me to complete all the sp challenges within an hour today. Cockpit view seems like the way to go in recreating the experience. All in all karts are very fun, easy to drive, and feel realistic.

Did you ever driven a go kart in real life??i driven those in real life in a go kart track and it was super stable around the fast corners but like the game, the brakes is a pain if it go over bumps.what I mean by that, the back want to break traction when you brake.in gt5,the go karts understeers more

Haha. I'm sure you mean Polyphony ABS, which is more of a traction-control for braking that acts upon all four wheels. Awful stuff. :ouch:

Also the low-speed acceleration of GT5 karts is pretty silly- most non-shifter (no gearbox) karts have torque-converters which means there is still plenty of grunt at low speeds. A 125cc go cart should not take 4 seconds to reach 21mph. Something is not right there.

Besides these two glaring flaws, the karts are otherwise pretty sim-like and tons of fun. Wish we could change tire softness and adjust brake bias on these bad boys.

No, they aren't twitchier in real life and they have massive amounts of grip, on the order of 3g's. Most karts only have rear brakes but they also only weigh 300 lbs and have 16 inches of rubber on the rear for braking, and most of the weight there too. They will stop far faster than any street car.

You can't adjust brake bias, because they only have rear brakes. 0/100 is your brake bias.

Low end grunt is a fatal flaw in GT5 karts. I raced 100CC direct drive karts for several years, no clutch, bump start, and they had plenty of low end grunt even though they wound up to 17,000+ rpm. I remember when my brother first drove my kart after recovering from an injury and his head kept snapping back and forth from the acceleration for a few laps until he got used to it. In GT5 you couldn't snap the head back of an ostrich if he had a bowling ball around his neck...:sly:.

Not tot sound like an d**k but you just suck dude..

The karting in GT5 is great fun ... to be fast though it is essential to be as smooth as possible with steering inputs to keep the average speed as high as possible!
