Why so few F1 tracks in GT4?

I think GT4 will only have a total of 2 or 3 F1 tracks (Monaco, Suzuka). I like the idea of Hong Kong street track, but I would take the Shanghai race track over it anyday. I go to track days 6 times a year, and visiting every famous track of the world is my dream.

2 or 3 is 1 or 2 more F1 tracks than GT3 had. The game isn't all about F1, and I realize that these tracks are all great in their own right, but there simply isn't room on the DVD for more tracks, and the balance they are trying to achieve means that we only get a couple F1 tracks. Hopefully GT5 will have them all and have every car ever produced....but right now PD is just trying to appeal to as many different people as possible.

Actually GT4 will have 4 "Formula 1" tracks

-Suzuka
-Fuji (F1 raced there until the 80s, may race there again as soon as 2007)
-Nurburgring Nordscleife (F1 raced there until the 80s when the modern GP circuit was built)
-Monaco

There is MUCH more to autosport than F1. Motegi, Tsukuba, Laguna, Sears Point/Infineon all have histories of their own (albeit some more bike than car).

I am all for real circuits, If I had my way GT4 would ONLY have real circuits in it, though I do enjoy the made up street circuits like NYC that you could never actually race.

What good are the F1-specific tracks if there's no confirmed F1 cars in the game?

Short answer: GT is not an F1 game. Hence, they don't concentrate on F1 cars and tracks. The cars we got in GT3 were nothing more than a gimmick, an Easter Egg. I wouldn't use it as any sort of indicator as to where the series is going. And there's definitely more to racing than F1. Some tracks are specially suited to F1 cars, and don't work that well for the "normal" cars that GT is built around.

Well if you get the NR2003 sim , you could be driving openwheel cars at just about any track.

I've already been driving Indy cars at the old nurburgring

Few things are less fun then pushing an MG X257 around the ring, fighting off a Cadillac and Panoz LMP...

But the big thing for me with the PC Sims community, is that while it's great to have such variety, few times you could find the sheer polish you'll get from a full game such as GT. I'm not saying that negatively; I don't expect a single person to turn out something comparable to a full dev team, but I remember the headaches of trying to get a GPL-ported track working in F12k2, and the numerous different camera files, etc etc...

Anyways, if I had to pick an F1 course, I'd probably stick my vote in for Catalunya. Always a fun track. But there are plenty of non-F1 tracks that are as, or more, interesting to me. Road Atlanta is up there for the endless hot-lapping I did in the afore-mentioned MG in the old SCR mod. It's a quick, flowing track. I'm pretty happy Sears Point is in, because the elevation changes are a lot of fun, although I can imagine how that will affect the numerous low-hp cars...

This is in unlikely scenario, but how I hope the GT series can venture onto other aspects of racing... like getting the official 'ok' from the FIA for a 'Gran Turismo: Formula 1' or something of that nature...

There is so much better then those boring sterilised F1-tracks :yuck:
You can't be serious? F1 tracks are some of the best tracks in the world IMO. I think it would be great endlessly lapping around Albert Park in a V8 Supercar on GT4. Personally I think F1 has some of the best tracks in the world.

As I've heard a few times before, usually Formula One tracks show off highly competitive race tracks from some of the world's most exotic locations. My personal favorites are Monza and Suzuka. Why Monza? The high-speed circuit is a sweet balance of high speed and technical corners. And look at it like this, you can go almost flat out at the end of the course. Why Suzuka? The track is a roller coaster ride with my favorite part being the long straight with the overpass (that is, until the kind of sharp corner comes), then the toughest part of the track- the Casio Triangle. It was so tough, I normally missed Pit Lane in "Le Mans 24 Hours" for when I had to pit.

Why so few F1 courses? One answer would be "Formula One tracks aren't the only good race tracks in the world." Another answer would be that maybe some of the best were selected. But really, I have no real answer because I simply don't know why there are few F1 courses. Usually if I don't know an answer to something, I at least try to state my points and provide alternate answers. I would probably choose A1 Ring, Monza, the new Shanghai course, (maybe) the Melbourne GP, Kyliami, and Sebring. Even though Sebring isn't a current F1 track, I'll tell you why I selected it. Think 1959. I believe this was the first ever Grand Prix in America WAY before Indianapolis wanted in on an American GP. Also, it's a sportscar racing proving ground, and with a game dominated mostly by sportscars, why not Sebring? Former F1 track, current sportscar track. History, folks! History for a race track is like money- it talks. And when history talks, you tend to listen.

Eau rouge at Spa. Who wouldn't want to race there? Either in F1's, race cars, and street cars? I for one hope there are more "realistic" F1's in GT4 rather than the unrealistic ones in GT3 with their extreemly exaggerated handling performance.

Totally agree. I would love to see LRP, mid ohio, VIR, etc etc. What would be cool would be expansion disks they could sell. I'd buy. I'd pay 50 dollars for a disk that had all the NA road courses.

Like:
Real North American road courses.
Real South African road courses.
Real Japanies road courses.
Etc, Etc....

If they are going to do F1 do a seperate disk GTF1 another $50 bucks I'd buy.

Come on Sony. Make thes I'd drop $150 right now for GT4 GTF1 and a track expansion disk. A month later I'd probably drop another $150 on 3 more track expansion disks. I'd have to collect them all so I could experience every real road course on this planet we call earth. I know I'm in dream world but man they would make a killing and we would be happy. Win Win situation.

Then they wouldn't have time to spend on GT games! Plus I think SCEE do a pretty good job with those. I've yet to play '04, I hope the damage is better than '03, that was a bit dissapointing :(

I have a couple of questions -

First of all is the Nurburgring Nordscleife the same Nurburging F1 has in its current season - at first i thought it was but i doubt if after seeing the RUF video, doesn't look the same.

Also is Suzuka confirmed it GT4? I have neven seen or heard it is in it - but correct me if im wrong.

👍

not all f1 tracks are so great....look what herman tilke has done. his tracks are all shockers!! if you want good f1 tracks in the game, the older ones are the way to go, like the old nurburgring! silverstone, hockenheim (before tilke butchered it) and interlagos are some good examples.

I agree, most of the more modern F1 circuits are designed specifically to run F1 cars on them, lesser cars (all other cars in other words) would be totally wasted on them. They tend to be wide, flat, featureless tracks that usually don't even make for great F1 circuits. They are designed to pack crowds in, provide good facilities for teams and sponsors and have good safety features. None of those requirements mean anything when playing GranTurismo so why bother with them?

Give me Autumn Ring and Grindlewald over Shanghai or Bahrain any day.

it'd be great if GT only has real tracks PLUS locations...

i'd love to drive around Shanghai F1 track, but i also wanna race around HK and NY cities....

but screw Highspeed Ring or Apricot Hill.... or other "fantasy" tracks..

Forgot about Interlagos. Really fun track, that.

And if PD were doing the F1 titles, the newest installment would probably still have Arrows. With their history of delays, I think giving them a title that requires yearly refreshing is not a good plan.

I would only allow a few F1 tracks, those which were really interesting: Spa, Monza (a Monza oval version :sly: ), Interlagos. Others are pretty boring, especially thoses designed by our nice fellow, Hermann Tilke.

Old F1 tracks are perfect for this game: Nordschleife (of course !), but also Brands Hatch (long version, with the fabulous Hawthorne-Westfield-Dingle Dell part :ill: ), Adelaide, Charade ("the perfect mix" Olivier Gendebien. 4 time Le Mans winner), Long Beach, Watkins Glen, Zandvoort, Solitude (only hosted non-championship events)...

Non-F1 tracks would be welcomed too:
Champcar, as Road America, Cleveland or Surfers Paradise.
V8supercar as Bathurst.
Endurence as Le Mans (please, a 24h race, with 49 opponents 👍 ), Road Atlanta, Sebring...

Apricot Hill > You.

i love real tracks, fact is that some of these real tracks take years in development and testing, something PD can't match with their fantasy tracks, but even then, i still like fantasy tracks and are a very nice addition to the game, if PD wanted to, it could make tracks that are too expensive to build and have the most beautiful scenery, or wierd one... like for instance, a track built on top of a lake or sea, etc.

real tracks are allmost always more fun to drive than non real ones... at least these:
Suzuka (my favourite.. along with...)
Nurburgring Nordschleife
Spa
Laguna Seca.

(i also kinda like monza.. but the circuit is too fast, and since you can't feel the g's on those mega-high speed corners...)
there's tons more that i find very fun. but yeah, some flat out suck.

The Nordschleife is the old North Ring track at the Nurburgring and will feature in GT4, the current F1 GP track was built after safety concerns and deaths saw the removal of the old circuit from the F1 calender.

Nordschleife = 1927 - current. Length 13 miles

Nurburgring GP = 1984 - current. Length 2.8 miles

To confuse matter some races use both the Nordschleife and GP track to create a 18.7 mile circuit

Follow this link and select Nurburgring to see more details and the various circiut layouts over the years.
