Why so many "standard" cars in GT6?

I'd be happy if they modeled all cars to standard car standard. There is no need for graphical perfection, would much rather resources were directed towards other areas - better AI, better physics, higher frame rates, more cars on track.

Lack of imagination will ruin immersion faster than standard cars.
There is no shortage of processing power on the PS4 to warrant having to downgrade cars from PS3 quality. PCars appears to be running quite well at 60FPS with much more happening in the game and on the screen than a PS3 could ever hope for. With PD's massively larger budget, they should have no trouble having large grids of premium cars and many more features than could be dreamed of on the PS3.

No they really don't look that bad. There will always be the pixilated king of course but generally they all don't really look too bad. Only time you're really going to notice their blockyness is when you're photo mode.

If you have to imply, "Oh, they don't look so bad...as long as you don't view them in photomode.", then something isn't right.

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind standards being in GT6, since they were in GT5. But I'm not going to pretend some of them don't look bad. Some people also like to watch replays and the flaws can be seen there too.

Speaking of photo-mode, my car (appearance-wise anyway) happens to be in GT6 and it's not pretty:

The pictures speak for themselves. Ugly car model.

It may drive nice, but seeing a car you own being poorly represented like this is not a good feeling, especially when there are other standard cars that clearly look much better than this one. It makes it seem like PD values certain cars over others, when they all deserve equal treatment.

Fortunately for me, this Subaru Legacy model is also in other racing games, so I don't have to settle for such low quality.

The standard cars are a massive disrespect to not only cars that are in standard form, but also the manufacturers who built them and people who loved those cars. And how can one say "They don't look that bad", I'm sorry but they have to be really blind or have a standard TV to be saying that...

On close-up view they are really horrific, and the subaru that @Master Weasel posted is not even the worst, there are cars that looks worse that that!:scared:

But: If you look on them from a distance, that pixely thing meld together and they look quite alright I'd say. the blacked out windows are still really bad tho.

I agree that is better than GT6 standard, but it is still under no circumstances a good modelling. Look at the weird lightning model, not to mention those headlights:yuck:

Same goes for engine sounds.

The gameplay is the most important part of a game. You can have everything almost perfect in the game other than the gameplay and if the gameplay is shocking like it is now in GT6 it is not going to be a good game to play and that goes with GT7 as well. Standard cars are not the answer to a good game.

I meant in photo mode because if you're racing you're generally not going to notice some of the low quality features of the cars.

Unless there's one right in front of you...or beside you...or behind you....or you scroll through the views and pass by the cockpit view...or you use the chase cam...or the hood view...or in a replay.

:dopey: Bingo! There are a lot of really good photographers playing this game and the photomode part of the game is very important to them/me. Standards are a big no-no for me, the game and it's players deserve across the board quality.

If there were no standard cars in GT6 would the game have been a lot better NO because of the gameplay.

That all depends on who you're asking, so just saying no is kinda ignorant.

- Some will say it'll get worse due to more prevalent frame rate problems and lack of polish in other areas, etc.
- some will say it'll get better due to a standard level of quality across the board, customization for all cars, photo mode, etc.

standard cars isn't the problem , the problem is the "lack" of premium cars ...

The problem is not the lack of premium cars is has a lot to do with the gameplay and the gameplay is the most important part of the game.

I thought GT6 was a steady 60 fps accept in replays...

If I recall correctly, PD was originally going to port GT4's physics engine to the PS3, but decided that they would rebuild it from scratch to take advantage of the new hardware. If they were willing to spend such a long time on building a new physics engine, why not use brand new car models to show off the new tech? PD did this with every other GT (with the exception of GTPSP, but I think we can let that slip), so why did they reuse PS2 models? When GT moved to the PS2, there were no PS1 cars. Why? Because they would look ridiculous alongside the newer models. So why did they do it this time? Look at Forza 5, everything (AFAIK) has been redone for next-gen, the way it should have been done with GT5. carrying these outdated models into GT6 was bad enough, bring them onto the PS4 on GT7 will just be downright embarrassing for Sony.
