Why was the standing starts removed?

Rolling starts would be ok if done properly in a formation like NASCAR.

I'd like standing starts but they are probably remove because the physics are really lacking in launches. It seems like a weird oversight since everything else works great.

But you can get a perfect launch (every time) in any car by putting your foot flat to the floor. I gave up trying to set the revs just right because it made no difference.

i thought it changes from standing to rolling as you advance in A-spec, and B-spec.

The very 1st race in the beginners series in aspec is a rolling start.
(I just did it yesterday. Well, not did it, I just load it to recycle my UCD.)

I miss the way when you win a car it actually shows you. like the cars are under cover then it shows the car. also miss how it gave the trophy at the end of the race.

Also i think PD was trying to make races easier for new comers

Just like in GT4 where you can see a prized car under veil coming into the light? It gave me an ache what car I would get and what color it would wear no sooner had the race gone.

And I'm not sure if showing a trophy at the end of the race is a good thing as long as the winnings after race itself isn't affected(a slight increase or so :D)... Also I don't think the display of trophy doesn't much dispose players to acquire the one of higher grade unlike the license tests where the grade of trophy becomes a norm of estimate of how good the driver is.

I think they removed it just to make offline races less easy, so you can't overtake all the A.I. before the first corner.

For this reason I think. Even with equally matched cars it was far too easy to overtake all the opposition on the first lap of a standing start. Lots of the hardcore GT fans complained about the AI been rubbish / game too easy.

The problem now is that rather than pick a lower class car and have a good 5 (or whatever) lap race. Now I end up picking a "Monster car" because I need to lap 4 seconds a lap faster than anything else just to catch up first place which has a 25 second head start.

I think some of the complainers in the first place were "Monstering" the races then complaining the AI was too slow.???????

I think the Problem PD have is all the different skill levels. I dont know why they didnt implement 3 skill levels for the AI. Ie easy / medium / hard. With hard been virtually unbeatable in an equal car but easy been slow enough for a beginner to have a fair chance? I mean, PD must have an idea what is a fast lap and slow lap in any given race. They do have testers dont they?

Rolling starts for me havent made the Racing any better. Now its just one big time trial with other cars in the way.

Actually I think the problem is compounded by the fact that the AI IS in fact better, and has been significantly improved since the first version of GT5.

the revs do make a difference.

I hate rolling starts and I hate that I cant qualify for the race in GT5 career mode.. :(
I dont like that it puts you in the back its no fun all races are boring with bad AI.. (it have big improvements since new updates, but still they drive too sterile too clean, I want to see them want to win and crash on roof) :)

at least its possible online, pity it dont work all the time.

GT5 physics and car graphics is the thing that keeps me playing it. + g27 and some music ;)

anyways.. standing starts are very needed especially in Top Gear test track.

Yea how many people want to try for a lap to see where they would be on the "Star Board"? But then we would need a Kia Cee'D....Erm Just like Forza 4 has.

I always thought GT was the best driving sim but Im hearing some good things about Forza 4. I might have to buy it but the thought of going back to that crappy Microsoft wheel after been on the G25 again makes me want to cry!

If you have money to burn, you can buy a Fanatec wheel. Most of them have Xbox/PS3/PC compatibility 👍 .

So no one really knows the reason they were taken away? Performance issues sounds plausible, but I can't understand why there should be performance issues at the start and not later on. I can't remember having seen any of that when there still were standing starts available for races.

I'm pretty sure all if the A-Spec events still have standing starts. Rolling starts are more fun I think. It tends to give everyone a cleaner line starting out. Standing starts on the Formula GT championship really pissed me off cause everyone would just bunch up on eachother.

Yes but that just says you have too powerful car. I would want standing starts for time attacks.
