If you and your friends live in the same town or any where close, you may have this problem. My brother any I live about 10 miles apart and we cannot race each other about half the time.

Because the netcode for this game is terrible.

I wouldn't say that, because I have friends in Michigan that I can play with and voice chat in GT5 without any problems. It might be down to the Router in use in the home, as if you are NAT2 or NAT3 you will experience all sorts of issues. I have NAT2 but my PS3 is also DMZ and I have friends all the way in Australia and we race and chat all the same as I do with people in the U.S.. Netcode isn't always to blame as your end connection has a lot to do with it as well. The netcode could be better though, but since this game launched it has been working and only since all the updates that it has seemingly gotten a bit unstable. So PD is doing something with it, what I have no idea. I guess we can bother Kaz about it and see what he has to say.

But even when it works it's not very good. Granted, all the other online racing games I've played were PC based, but GT is the only one I've played where cars on screen are sliding and hopping around in unnatural ways and even your own car handles differently than it does in offline practice.

Maybe PD is simply bumping up against limitations of the PS3 and their software is the best it can possibly be, but the online experience is not this game's strong suit.

👍

Yeah, locality is the problem. My GT bud lives 4 doors up from me and we often have problems.

We all live in about 10miles from each other so thats why then :nervous:

Ohmygods! The game is brokens!!!

Ohwait... didn't I run a public lobby last night... with 14 people... with sound working? Oh, but it was very la--. No, wait... there was one guy that lagged and crashed, but he quit out.

No one else lagged. Funny that.

If you are having a problem with your online experience, don't jump to the conclusion that the game is messed up. Plenty of us don't have a problem with our online experience.

"Lag" is a pretty rare occurrence for me, too. Although the proximity thing seems a genuine cause of problems (I've experienced it myself, in the past, but only when there's more than one "local" in the room); I have no idea why it should be the case.

Play Battlefield 3, then come back and try and whinge about not hearing each other. The servers for GT5 are brilliant compared to some. Lag is slowly diminshing after each maintence as well. I used to race a mate who lives in the same town. Not a single problem at all.

Dont jump to conclusions and blame the game. You or your buddy could have a poor connection.

Why do we have to put up with these threads with no description in the title and then when you click on it, it's crap that we've heard a million times before on GTPlanet?

But it can't be entirely a proximity problem since I play without a problem with three friends, and we live in about 3 kilometres from each other at most.

Saying that you can't see a problem doesn't mean that it's not there, it just means that you can't see it.

this is true, how ever, It it only true because PD expects/expected, people to have stellar connections, so if one person doesn't, it can impact the room negatively

I suppose this is true. But at the same time there are ways for software to determine network latency and strength of connection. If they don't offer options to auto-boot people with poor connections like other software does.... it's something they should have thought to add.

Normally setting the race and VoiP quality to a lower one fixes most issues. And it will be a lot more stable the connection.

Aside from new content, every lint ball breadcrumb crevice subject matter of this game has been picked to death, imagine how many posts there would be to check out if none were repeated ?
