Will a car being "premium" or not have an effect on your car choice for races?

Hi guys,

With the recent news I was wondering something. Let's say that you are at home, playing some GT mode GT5 having a beer and you come across a RWD race which you can run with several cars.

Now, let's say that your primary choice is an RX-7, but you could also go with a Silvia. The RX-7 is not a premium model and the Silvia is. Of course, this is all hypothetical.

Would you alter your car choice just because you want to feel more immersed in the game/enjoy the extra, better damage model on this premium model?

My personal opinion would be a no.

Well I think that premium cars will have sort of own league.

WRC,Touring,Nascar and so on.

If that is the case I will race street cars vs street , GT vs GT and so on.

No, because I don't use interior views, and have no interest in the damage mode if it's not consistent across all cars.

Well if premium cars will be in there on groups. Racing WRC against WRC will have consistent damage.

I think it would be smart to group the cars because it would look strange, with different damage and quality on one track.

Hold on a second. Are we talking about aesthetic damage or mechanical damage? We still don't know if there will be a difference in mechanical damage between standard and premium models (I think not).

Mechanical would be the same I think. But as I understand overall quality will be slightly different. Thats why I think it would be strange to have them on one track at once.

I see what you mean, but I kind of assumed that the 'premium' cars would be race cars, like WRC, Nascar etc. But if some of the production cars are premium models then I think that would be a bit weird if you could race other standard production cars in the same race.

Well we have to wait and see. I think with GT5 every new day will be like Christmas, we will find something new and interesting . (that's the point of not giving us any information right?)

But logicly I think premium and standart cars will be separated.

I don't know. I remember Kaz mentions ALL cars will have Internal Damage, while some cars won't have External Damage. So my guess, you will see every car capable of almost all the races, if there are no limitations. In the latest interview, it seems the car magazine miss interrupted what KAZ meant to say, maybe Kaz did not explain too well.

I seriously doubt there are 170+ wrc, nascar, and supergt cars in the game.

I have never heard that. I heard him say that some cars will have lesser damage but never that some won't have damage, let alone all having "internal" damage, whatever that means.

It's possible if they make every race car i the game a premium car.

I always thought premium meant the cars are modelled so you can see what's underneath the body work, like the engine and chassis.I always took that as the interior view when it first got miss quoted some time last year.

There were something like 25-30 race cars in GT4. I have a hard time believing that another 140+ were put into gt5. That would mean that out of the 250 new GT5 car, new since gt4, 140 are just race cars.

That surely is what it sounds like to me as well. It only makes sense that race cars would fall under that category.

He mentioned it many times last year. Also internal damage, where your engine breaks when you hit something, or suspension will break and bend. He even mentioned that it will be so good that if you hit a bump, your tires will even hit the wheel arch (I dont know the name of English of the part)

But thats the pic to summon it up.

Imagine when racing in GT5, you hit a big bump, and your lowered car's wheels will hit that wheel arch. Owch!

But hey, thats what he mentioned a YEAR ago... since then he was so quiet, so who knows if that won't be implemented into the game. Maybe he really did mean it lately that only selected cars will have damage.

Where did he mention this, exactly?
Like I said, internal damage was said to be in select cars, not all cars. Internal damage and mechanical damage I wouldn't think are the same.

I think race, concept, custom builds, and possible the GT tuned cars will fall into the premium class.

I do think at some point in GT's future, they will allow us to create premium cars,by converting all cars into race spec, and I think manufacturers will allow damage as they won't be production anymore.

Found it!
“The damage physics are going to be applied to things like a bent suspension arm, tires hitting the wheel wells of a car, deformation of the body affecting alignment, the loss of power to the engine. We’re still working on setting the sensitivity level of of the damage. You can have it so if you have a single hit your car isn’t going to be able to be driven anymore. It’s a matter of adjustment.”

Oh right, I would have thought there were more than that in GT4, including rally cars as well. And now we have Nascar, I guess we will have to wait and see. But I can't really think about how KY would distinguish between which production cars should be premium and which should be standard.

All GT5 Prologe cars are premium. I think once the non premium cars will be something like GT4 in super HD Photo mode quality. I still think they will have cockpit views at least something like in GT PSP but with color and simple graphics.
Suspension damage isn't internal damage. That is mechanical and external damage. I could see internal damage used for engine/trans problems but most likely, from recent interviews, cockpit deformation.

Well internal of the BODY! haha 👍 But either way I was right about what Kaz mentioned and internal damage.

Can't find it, but I am 100% sure Kaz mentioned Prologue is the Premium quality, and how Premium cars will look. That they will have 360 degree cockpits with high detail.

Also, another proof, all interviews about GT5 Prologue cars and how long it took them, everytime Kaz mentioned it uses SO and SO polygons and it takes MONTHS to make a car for Prologue, so we can simply guess Prologue cars are Premium.

My speculation on Standard models, They will be something like GT HD demo that was the very first taste of GT5.

If you look at the cars, they were build in single pieces, (later Kaz decided to build cars in sections for damage) they had no cockpit view, as well they are detaild enough, but not as much of detail as we found in GT5 Prologue.

they wasted their time for a high detailed Suzuki capuccino??!!! i dont' think all gt prologue cars are premium.

Hey, someone in Japan who bough that lil car will be happy when they play the game. maybe you are right, maybe not all are Premium cars in GT5 P. but even the Suzuki looks very nicely detailed.

i know, but if i have to chose premium details for 180 cars out of 1000.. i dont' choose the suzuki capuccino. I think (more hope than think) that cockpit view will be on every car (maybe not for concept) and interior refers to engine, suspensions etc , so standard cars ,that are not modeled inside, will not take hard damage cause if the bonnet for ex flies away there is nothing under. while if you're right it's a shame that in 5 years they made gt4 in hd adding some cokpit to less than 200 cars.
