I really hope they don't. I plan to wait for the price to drop before I buy a PS4 so I imagine I'll be using my PS3 for some time yet, like many others. Personally I wouldn't exactly be encouraged to buy a PS4 if the online services for the current gen were switched off so soon. Such a blatant attempt to get at my money would only encourage me to move away from console gaming altogether.

I think 5's servers were shut down in an attempt to get people to pay out for one more PS3 title, yes, but that's not as bad. At least you don't need new hardware to continue playing online. I don't think they'll do the same with 6's servers come the release of GT7. I think they'll stay up for at least a year after it comes out. Such a move would be too obvious a money grab IMO.
I hope you're right but business is business as they say. If they did it with the GT5>>GT6 transition to encourage GT6 sales, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same thing with GT6>GT7. We shall have to wait and see.

They kept it open for 3 and a half years right? That's longer than many keep their servers open on a game that already has a sequel.

I can certainly see the sense in doing that, business-wise. I believe Sony has the sense to not just cut off their customers in such a way though. The current servers would be up for a much longer period of time had a new generation of console not come out, of course, but they'll not be as short lived as some may think... again, IMO.

Pretty much what I thought about GT6 when I preordered it.

And that was fair enough :). Assuming GT5's servers were shut down to encourage us to buy GT6, they can get away with it because what's the price of another game in the grand scheme of things? It's still a low move but it works.

I think it's a fairer assumption now though (what I've said in my previous posts). Sony can't expect people to be as content with buying a new console, as well as the new game just to play online.

business is business.

That's what is killing last generations games step by step. Games, more and more business, and less games. Unfortunatelly,I guess GT is one of the most being affected by this at all.

@550 Just don't be surprised if that's exactly what they do expect. As @Johnnypenso said, business is business. Fingers crossed they play nice.
I'm not saying I hope the doomsday scenario is what plays out. I'm just taking in everything I see and not pinning hopes on my wants.
$50 US for 7mil credits DLC
Largely incomplete game with the smallest amount of offline events ever
Indications that many future DLC installments will disappear with online support at product life cycle's end
Reportedly 7 million PS4s
I suspect GT5/6 servers will not be usable for PS4 servers
No purpose for community connectedness other than online events (re: trading in GT5) equals what in consumer interest?

I have no doubt PD and Sony want GT7 just as fast as it can be barely dressed and sent out the door to catch the bus. I think the absolutely abysmal sales of GT6 has hurt all involved, and they wait "with baited breath" to see the rollover when all support for GT5 ends. I see the head developer lost in his own little fantasy world and losing touch with the people that pay the way. Other than whales that have already proved they have more money than time (and sense, IMO) paying for in-game credits, who's not looking hard to see if any paid DLC stays with the game after servers shut down? I'm pessimistic, yes, but also realistic.

they could at least keep the gt6 servers since it was the last one for the ps3, makes me sad wasting 80 euros to know the online services will end shortly, since gt7 comes next year
I doubt GT7 will come out next year

PD haven't even given players back the community features from what 1.00? 0_0 seems they really don't care about online play, and the way its being disregarded I`d predict it wont last as long as GT5

this is wondering me since i read on facebook that gt5 servers will close. when gt7 comes out will gt6 servers also close?
i paid a lot for the gt6 and my money would be a waste if gt6 servers would close

what do you guys think?

Welcome to online gaming.

This is one of the MANY reasons I stick to single player and general offline play.
