While I would like to see him win a 5th championship I am not sold that he will definitely win another one. When he retires he will still go down as one of the top 5 greats in the sport in terms of accomplishments.

I know i'm going to sound alittle too optimistic when I say this, but seeing that Jeff has about 10 years left in his career I think it's possible for him to tie Earnhardt and Petty in Championships. I'm not saying that it will happen but it would be nice. Johnson will certainly tie those two or hell maybe even pass them!

Jeff has way less than 10 years. I can't envision him racing past 2016 or 2017 quite frankly.

I see it as a possibility.

Jeff and his new crew chief were working well last season and it started getting better towards the end of the season.I can see him winning many races this next season.

I'm not a big NASCAR fan, but I certainly hope he can win in 2012, I've always liked him.

I just can't say that I see it happening. I believe Jeff has the power to remain a contender until the day he retires, but I just simply don't see him winning another championship. With hungry guys like Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards, plus the competition from Jimmie Johnson means that Gordon wont be able to get anywhere near the championship unless those (and others) seriously slip up.

However, I think he'll make the chase every year until he retires (or semi-retires). The guy is good!

Yeah but look at mark martin. He's in his 50's still racing. Dale Sr raced till his death at 49.

Jeff Gordon ≠ Mark Martin. It doesn't make a difference what any other driver does.

We also have to remember that Mark Martin still has a lot to prove. The man has never won a championship nor the Daytona 500! He's still racing because he wants at least one hallmark to take to the bank: "Longest Career".

Gordon is in an entirely different situation. He's won himself his championships and he's won some of the biggest races, too. He's also in a lifetime contract which is something that I think he wont take for granted, especially since he's invested in the team. I think that if he starts to see himself as a burden, he'll retire or semi-retire. I imagine the mentality would be similar to over staying your welcome at a relative's house who's taken you in on good will.

If I recall correctly, Jeff Gordon would have won two of the championships that have been run under the chase rules had they been under the pre-chase rules. (e.g. he scored the most points over the whole season)

I know one of them was one of Jimmie Johnson's titles. I don't know which other one though, so I'd say he's definitely got at least one more in him.

I don't think he will at least semi-retire until around 2018-2019. He still runs strong so why should he give up?
