I'm not getting the icon to pop up as well. Spent 5 hours trying to get it yesterday. Tried everything on this thread, tried everything on the internet, tried that dropbox script, turning off my antivirus, everything. Still no icon. Zip. Nil. Nada.

I'm thinking it's not worth bothering now and I'll just upgrade when it comes out. Do you lose anything by not reserving it in advance?

Nothing that you lose, just need to download 3 gb on the day and not before

Will all of our Windows 8 applications work with windows 10? I was keen to upgrade straight away but I predict there will be some teething issues while we wait for developers to get everything compatible with Windows 10..

Your mileage will vary. So far, the facebook app, and all Microsoft made apps will work, but I got issues with it personally since I admin 2 groups on Facebook, and I can't do any administrating abilities on the app. Other third party apps will probably won't work since they are designed with Windows 8 in mind.

Does windows 10 still have the automatic maintenance from Win8?
All signs point to yes, however I can't say for sure since I'm directly upgrading from Windows 7.

Windows 10 mandatory automatic updates were always going to be a disaster and they have already stated causing problems.

Nearly always when I have installed a bunch of Windows Updates something goes wrong so I only do it once every couple of months.

I can personally report that my GeForce Experience software doesn't create any conflicts with Windows Update when updating my video card. Then again, I don't have a dual GPU set up so that I can experience the nastiness for myself. Still, I have always set my Nvidia software to do is to not update it automatically, but rather ask, so if you wish to go one step further, you might want to turn off notifications for driver updates in the GeForce Experience software.

Again, I stress that from personal experience that the issue is way overblown if you use a single card setup.

Have you installed all updates Including the ones for Internet Explorer?
I didn't get the icon until after I did something with IE then more updates after that then it will pop up.

Its a question from more than a month. He already solved it.

Now, about the NVidia. Thank god im using AMD.

I assume he would have Windows 10 available to reserve by now. I had it June 13 and i'm sure many will have had it since then.

Windows 10 Pro got downloaded onto my Laptop, I'll show you it tomorrow when I install it :p

@FrzGT
Windows 10 is available for preloading now, but you'll still have to wait a few hours until you can install it.

@FrzGT
Did you reserve it?

If yes, you can open a command prompt window as administrator and type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow". This should start the download after a couple seconds or few minutes.

Before you do this, take sure Windows Update finished installing all other updates (do a manual search).

After entering the command, you can check the status if you open the windows update screen. In case the windows update screen is already open, you'll have to close it first, the screen doesn't update itself.

In case you already have the data, but simply didn't notice: there should be an invisible folder on your C: drive called "$Windows.~BT" with the size of about 6GB.

Although maybe I should have done this earlier (Not that it matters), I've reserved Windows 10 and plan to install it when I can. I figure I might as well if I can get it for free.

Yes. But doesnt it only downloads the Windows but didnt validated by the update app/Windows update? I dont want to trigger double download.

What do you mean? If you've reserved it, it says it should start downloading and the upgrade should ready itself (And you'll be notified) when Windows 10 releases on Wednesday at midnight EDT (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-4). I'm UTC-7. It's probably just not out in your time zone yet. I'm sure it will be soon though. I think MS says the rollout will be gradual. Don't worry, you should be able to get it eventually.

No, it basically just tells Windows Update to check for the download and if necessary download it. If it is already downloaded, Windows Update will be aware of it and not download it again.

Of course, you can just wait.
However, in my case as example it didn't automatically start downloading. Sure, it would've done this later at some point, but with the command you can force it to start immediately, at least in some cases.

What's the command anyway? It hasn't started downloading for me yet, but I'd like to know just in case.

As described in post 351

You can check the status if you open the windows update screen. In case the windows update screen is already open, you'll have to close it first, the screen doesn't update itself.

It'll look like this:

This all downloaded a few hours ago......no notification to install yet....

The Drivers folder has 3 folders inside for audio [realtek], visual [nvidia], and wifi [realtek].
