Yes, the absolutely best thing that can be done to improve the online experience.

It would definitely help prevent certain players from being in your races. Would be even better if you could restrict a lobby to certain driver ratings. But this is all an if and want thing for me. :)

I think everyone would want this. Only problem is, PD would make it and subsequently ruin it over a series of patches.

Online. Typically, the worse driver you are (by means of driving style, if say you crash a lot or crash into other drivers) the lower your driver rating would be. Hence the 'clean' part in the title. GRID 2 has this system, I'm sure on other games that have it though.

Well, all I'll say is in iRacing the safety/license rating that is always in "Flux" keeps the idiots out.

Meaning,if you drive safely and well your license goes up and if you drive badly the opposite happens.

If PD implemented something like this for online racing it could only be a good thing.

Posted this on Worst You've have dealt with online thread :

PD should implement rep system for online lobbies. Each host lobby can enable/disable rep system. WHen it's on, any crash, corner cutting, backwards driving or other bad behavior that deemed worthy of penalty, will be penalized and will reflect on the player's profile rep. Finishing a race cleanly will add to positive rep of course. This way we can see anyone's rep online and those who choose to drive dirty/hosting dirty room can disable the rep system.

I like this idea, but it would be better to just improve the penalty system first:

  1. Improve penalties so they actually work.
PD need to change the penalty so the good drivers are not penalised for small things, such as going wide.

    [*]Black Flags.
Drivers who continually cause problems could be blacked flagged from the race or lobby. This option could be turned on an off in the room, with an option to search for this function in the lobby search.

The rep system wold be great, maybe instead of just A spec XP in single player, you could have online A Spec with a points system for clean driving.

Voted no, because I don't want my rating spoiled by someone crashing into me.
Certainly not by someone deliberately crashing into me for the sole purpose of spoiling my rating.

Yeah...that's what I was thinking people would do.

I voted yes but only if the system in place was run by people and not a program. If someone crashes me out, I want to be able to press a report button that sends the race replay and the person's PSN ID to an actual person in an office that will be able to clearly see who is at fault and lower their rating accordingly.

If that can't be done, then I'd rather have no rating system.

Well, these also posted at other thread :

Could backfire if good players are punted off by bad players

I think the game would now which one deliberately punt the other by the speed and position of each car- the punters would always have higher speed - just like dive bomber. Blocking the track by staying put would be easy to detect too.

If someone decided to tap from the side or T bone or that infamous police maneuver, I am sure with good programming, the game can detect the car forces when hitting others and know which one is deliberate.

I vote yes because it sounds good in theory, but would need to protect innocent driver ratings somehow. For instance, someone dive bombs a corner and you run into him.

How would you rate someone as clean? How could you expect a game to automatically do such a thing with so many different opinions of what "clean" is?

I pick and choose my online friends and racing buddies wisely and that seems to do the job just fine..

I understand what you are saying. The system definitely couldn't cover every aspect of clean racing, but should could probably be programmed to "measure and rate" some key factors that determine a rating. Probably still be a good idea to avoid open lobby with your main account 💡.

I voted no.

It is the host’s job to take care of their room, not some computer algorithm that more than likely won’t work correctly anyway.

Indeed, it would really make online for everyone much better if we had that implemented. 👍

It should be the system itself to vote how clean or dirty you race, not the folks voting you or else it'll be abused thinking he or she is cheating or even hacking... :\

Good point there.

Basically you would place your faith of justice in the hands of the same AI responsible for B-spec Bob and the "oh my god, someone is on my tail, time to slam the brakes"-AI drivers. If it was possible to create an intelligent machine, then that would be great. In reality though, it's not.

IRacing already has what they call a "safety rating". It works well. The only problem with theirs is that the game is costly and difficult. There are virtually no casual players and almost everybody is skilled. Gran Turismo has a much wider audience so they would have to be less strict with the implementation.

That would only be the case for players the host is familiar with or they have to wait until a race actually happens in which it could very well be ruined by a bad player. Better safe then sorry.

How does it deal with impacts between two cars?

The safety rating of both goes down. It doesn't work.

Only really because of the cost of playing the game and the mandatory nature of the safety rating. That causes the safety rating to carry too much weight and for people to get precious about it.

Someone who is a prolific crasher will always have a lower safety rating than someone who is occasionally tagged through no fault of their own (other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.)

Making it optional will relieve some of the anxiety about it and allow people to do as they want anyway.

Yeah, this would be great.

Only problem is people that are usually very clean but like to take part in "dirty" races for a laugh.

See what this guy says.

It is all about the friends you keep. If you have a lot of good hosts as friends, you can almost always find one that is hosting when you want to race. Also Hosts usually trust their friends to help keep the room clean.

If you have a bunch of good clean drivers as friends, you can join the rooms they are in because chances are they are not going to be racing in a crappy room.

I ALWAYS have a good time online. That is because I have lots of good clean drivers for friends.

Sorry that I don't race with my friends? People can't just race with randoms? I see nothing wrong with that, and most people don't make a group of friends to race with.

If implemented properly, it could help in running a league of 60-100 drivers.
