Damn, that is such an awkward-looking stage. I know it's based on a real stage, but would it really be so hard for organisers of these events to create super-special stages where you can actually build up some speed, like these ones in Colin McRae Rally 2.0?

Hi all,
Any modders out there know how to turn off the windscreen damage the cracking is a nice touch but it cracks way to easy over small jumps and even hitting the little red and white tape track makers ive just started to really enjoy the cockpit view (thanks to ec sim plugin dont like seeing steering wheel so move cam forward) and it just spoils the whole thing
cheers Dag

That WRC Powerslide looks like track racing mixed with rallying. No, Milestone. Stop. That is what rallycross is for. I liked DiRT Showdown, but I'm not happy about this one. They're trying to be like Codemasters, I noticed that with 3. It seems to me as if Milestone are trying to be 'cool', so to speak, and are releasing things like this to try and compete with DiRT. They're better off just sticking to traditional WRC, they are the only company releasing games that really replicate the championship now, that and RBR. All this is going to attract is 12 year olds who think it's fun to shove you into a fence when you're trying to play online. That's what it's like with online rallycross on D3, I have yet to find a clean rallycross room.

We'll see how it goes. It's still in development. I hope Milestone prove me wrong.

Is this supposed to be their answer to Dirt: Showdown then?

At first glance it kinda looked like Motorstorm RC. But no way it will be that fun. No point in me caring about it though since I doubt it sees any release on US PSN.

I'm actually glad of the PSN maintenance for the past thirty odd hours as I've put down FC3 and got back to WRC3 and Wipeout Fury/HD.

Just been having far too much fun clearing up some trophies and generally being sideways lots :)

As the WRC2 thread has been closed for some reason, I'll post this here. EDIT: actually it was the whingey thread that was closed, not the original WRC2 one - sorry for that...

Does anyone know if the MP servers are still up for 2. I've tried to go online with this as I still have a couple of trophies to earn. Both times I got the message that no matches were found.

It could be just that everyone is playing WRC3 but I also know that the devs were not exactly the best at communicating info (well, before WRC3 they weren't) so I thought I'd check here anyway.

EDIT: It occurs to me that I can always create a match and see if it allows me - Doh!

WRC 3 was a great improvement on the previous 2 don't get me wrong, but its the stages that annoy me! In WRC 1 there were Mayan pyramids dotted around. In WRC 2 the Finnish roads were FAR too wide. I have not really played WRC 3 much but I have viewed gameplay.

I am Welsh, North Welsh to be exact and I was soo hyped for WRC 3. Looking at all the improvements they have made, the realistic sized roads, the updated graphics and a stage called "Great Orme". FUUUUUU

I live virtually next to the Great Orme and there are no dirt roads or forests until you go about 6 miles in the other direction, you cannot drive on it, only around it. There are sheep on it. I have many more things to say about it but I don't have the space. Half of Sweet Lamb is not in a forest, it is in open welsh valleys (Elan Valley). No castles anywhere near Sweet Lamb that I know of either.
.

(Sidenote): I do know that they cannot map out the area perfectly. But they could at least go to the stages or look at pictures. Look at video of onboard footage of the stage.

Are there still people playing this online? Thinking of getting this and the WRC Playseat for my new G27..

Yeah, online is still good - the same old community plus new names seem to arrive with each new game and stay until the next one is out. That won't be until October(ish) though.

@TDDB - the stages in WRC3 are pretty much the exact same as their counterparts in 1 and 2 - just a lot better looking and more realistically modelled. Of the countries represented before, I think Portugal, France, Wales, New Zealand and Mexico were the only ones to get completely new stages introduced to the game and even then, one of the NZ ones has elements from a stage in WRC1.

Representling a full stage from the WRC would be unfeasible due to the length, so I imagine they created fantasy stages with the names of real WRC stages. Also do not forget that the dev is an extremely small studio with comparatively few employees and limited funding.

Personally speaking, I'm happy with the result as I get a good rally driving experience - I'm not so bothered with the stages being correct representations of the real places for the same reason as I mentioned above.

Might have to get back online, watching Monte Carlo highlights has whetted my appetite.

Good luck with getting anything other than the first two stages in random rooms then :sly: that's always what I seemed to get on voted rallies. I guess you'll be hosting your own room though 👍 have fun.

I've actually been enjoying getting all of the stars nailed down in SP. I suppose very few of us will have noticed, but if you really damage your car...say in pursuit of enough drift/style points...how much attention has been paid to handling and engine noises. At one point in a three stage rally my car kept slipping out of gear and it was a real struggle to keep it on the road, let alone drive it straight.

It was also good to roll and slam the car with abandon into trees without worry of losing my position - what a fun day :)

In first week of this game release I was 135th in world on Col De Turini with a
Loeb Citroen DS3, 3:10.3 on controller.

Anyway love to do some rallying perhaps sunday :D

Cool - I'll see if I can wrest the PS3 controller from my other half :) Let me know roughly what time you'll be out there.

Just for anyone interested - I tried to get a room going on WRC2 as I mentioned, but each time I set my status to active, the connection dropped. I think the servers therefore aren't active anymore.

WRC 3 - Advanced Physics Engine Mod (v0.6) vs Default Physics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnQuS6KB3BY

In this video I made a comparison on a gravel stage of the Rally of Portugal, with the Ford Fiesta WRC, comparing the physical that come with the game, versus the advanced physics mod (you can download in the video description).

Great comparison, Adrian. I definitely think Milestone should take a look at the advanced physics engine mod and improve their tire model accordingly.

Can I ask why this game sucks so much?
If anyone knows how to fix the following issues... i'm all ears.

- It crashes on startup with my speakers in windows configured as "Quadrofonic" since I use the Logitech Z-560 4.1 THX set (starts when using stereo or 5.1) :boggled:
- The controller can't be setup properly (crashes while assigning keys/axis) :ouch:
- The game ****s up even more when you install the physics and/or plugin mods from EC Sim (going left and only left... :dunce: )
- Once you get something working... the force feedback is horrible! :irked:

What a waste of money (€39.99 down the drain 👎). 🤬

Because its a console port done by a small team! It doesn't like anything unusual, I've never heard of that quadsomething speaker arrangment but as 5.1 works then at least you have that.

I never had any problems with setting up the controls in the game because I just didn't as it was unnecessary, I have a G27 so again my setup isn't exactly unusual. I had the same problem with the EC sim plugin where the car would behave oddly (my problem was that the throttle was stuck on and I couldn't shift) but I'm sorry to say I set it up so long ago I've forgotten how I fixed it, I never did get the H shifter working either. I think you have to leave the axes and anything else mapped through the game itself alone, so don't set your pedals or steering with the plugin. That's just if you have something non-standard, like a Leo standalone pedal adaptor I guess.

Obviously I have no idea what your hardware configuration is so please don't jump down my throat if you have some exotic hardware that needs advanced setting up, but yeah, it's not the most well-made piece of software ever.

Quadrofonic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadraphonic_sound

Quadrofonic is for when you only use 2 plugs (Green: Front Left/Right, Black: Rear Left/Right). In my case I use 4.1 where you have two plugs and the .1 (the sub) takes its low end signals from the front speaker inputs (as with a 2.1 speaker setup).

I'm sure someone here remembers the Logitech Z-560 speakerset. First set ever for PC with THX certificate.

Z560lineup.jpg

This is hooked up to the 'Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series' soundcard (I wonder if that's the longest name ever for a piece of hardware? :dopey: )

This thing...

Using 5.1 means I loose a lot of engine sounds and low end, as this goes via the orange (Center/LFE) wire. So at best i'd have to pick stereo and use some EAX magic and so on to emulate some rear channels, or put a pair of cans over my ears.

My other hardware isn't anything special. T500 RS wheel + CSPv2 pedals + TH8 RS shifter. ;)
Maybe the game doesn't like the combination of multiple USB device? I dunno.

Have you tried uninstalling the mods and running the game without? That's one way to find out if the conflict is with WRC3 in combination with the mods, or just the game itself. Quite a few PC gamers on this thread seem to have it up and running okay, so perhaps one will drop in and assist.

The sounds in the WRC series have never been their strong point, but as Neema says, they are a small studio with limited funding.

It was crashing and causing me issues at first too, try turning off anti-virus protection.... it worked for me:)

The mods conflict. I played the game with and without.

The sounds are fine. It just crashes upon start (some suggested to disable sound and it would run) because it can't handle quadrophonic (also called 4.0/4.1 surround sound).

Are you talking about the sound crash or input assign crash?

Also I never run anti-virus software. I have no viruses whenever I do a scan once in a while, while others with protection software do. ;)
Remember with relation to Anti-Virus companies. They are commercial companies which thrive upon you having viruses and thus the need for their software. What I want to say is that I suspect them for infecting purposefully your computers with viruses.
Agree with me or not, but this is just my opinion and view. ;)

AV software can still be running on a system by default, even if you don't activate it yourself. Check in System Tools for AV and Firewall settings - might be an idea, just to be sure.

See what the EC Sim site has to say, certainly if it's their mods that are causing the problem - can't really blame Black Bean for that :sly:

I am an IT from profession with MS certificates and all that stuff. I know what's going on in my system, nothing is running.

I don't blame the studio for a mod, but the stock game is already bad.
I will blame EC for the mod stability, unless they point the finger to the studio again. Lol

Rustig maar...not everyone knows to check for that, so I thought I'd see just in case.

Did I come across as irritated? This wasn't how I intended it. You can't know my background and all. ;)

Sorry, I wasn't sure :) It's cool. I hope you get it sorted without too much difficulty as the game is really quite fun.

Played it with the gamepad yesterday without mods. The brake lockup was a bit annoying and I couldn't get the back end to come around using the handbrake. :(
So I will definitely need to get the EC physics mod working at some point.

Brake lock-up is something they've had problems with representing in all three games. Gearing works far better with this engine though, so maybe that'd be an option in the interim.

Regarding the handbrake, I found I needed to tweak the car settings to get enough bite to kick the back end out on demand.

Ordered WRC3 for PS3 today.
I never enjoyed WRC2 but i played the WRC3 demo and they really made big leaps forward in terms in graphics, sounds and especially the handling. Not perfect but very good!

Can't wait for it to arrive!
