This is great fun! A good surprise, was expecting it to be disappointing like the first game. Love the classic rally cars, the Peugeot 502 is great fun on Wales. Will test the G27 tomorrow and do a video review in the next few days.
Pics: Note, the Peugeot 502 on Wales ones were before I changed the GFX settings to the ones in the DS3 pic. Also, it look much better in motion.

How do you get the pictures from the game?
Still really enjoying this game. Haven't really enjoyed playing a rally game this much since Rallisport Challenge 2. Career progression is pretty good and you can mess around with team boss', reasearch and development, new mechanics etc.

This is a must have for me. I enjoyed WRC 2010 very much, I can only hope the 78 stages of WRC 2010 are not 100% copied to WRC-2. Thankfully there is some new stuff to look forward to anyway. Despite what others might say, I like the handling of WRC 2010, If you put in enough effort (and I think that is a problem for a lot of console-racers) It becomes very enjoyable and controllable.

Agreed. I really enjoyed 2010. Very underrated.

I've been playing the PS3 version with a G25, graphics are far better than last years but still obviously not on par with those PC screenshots and vids you've shown, and still behind on even the PS3's dirt3 (looks nice but all too arcadey). Having said that, turning the colour down feels better, worst i've seen is the snow stages.

The feedback with the G25 is miles better than last year, you really feel all the bumps, jumps, cambers, changes in surface and every movement of the car. The weight is better too (traded in last years game so I download last year demo to compare, night and day now).

As said, fiddle with the setup of diffs, traction and break bias and you can really slide and setup the car into corners but there's enough bumps, camber and now really sharp hairpins to really make it a challenge when your pushing on which unsettles you (and yes I have played the much harder and sim like rbr with the wheel too), I've rolled it a few times when getting caught out.

I am really enjoying WRC2 its even pulled me away from the GT5 update that came out the same day.

Anyway the PC version looks alot better.

scleeve - (bruv) I'm glad you are enjoying the new WRC2. I'll have to have a go on it before deciding if it's that much of approvment from the last years WRC effort, but it does sound like Blackbean have vastly improved the handling, which is easily the most important aspect for me when it comes to rally games. I played Rally Sim Richard Burns Rally (RSRBR) a lot, so I'm looking forward to a decent PS3 rally game (as good as DIRT3 is, handling was still twitchy and arcadey).

Can you please post your wheel settings?

Does this years version support the six speed shifter on the ps3?

Also are the stages all new designs and are they different or do they repeat like last year?

Personally I think Dirt 2 and 3 are the best rally games on the market. Richard Burns Rally is certaintly awesome if you feel like punishing yourself with some sim action, and I don't doubt that reality is closer to RBR than Dirt 3, however I think Dirt 3 physics are good enough, the gymkhana is spot on and the rally stages (though short) are great, the graphics and sounds in Dirt 3 are amazing and it has a decent progress path to keep you interesed, trying many cars and racing styles.

WRC 2010 was for many a disapointment, an alright rally game which makes it no surprise that it wasnt that well received. As an overall game I don't think it matches up to Dirt 3.

We will see what 2011 can bring.

If DIRT 3 had the stages and license from the WRC game,it would be one of the best games ever.
I personally cant stand having to mix landrush trucks ,head to head, trailblazer and rally all on the same online lobby, i just want a rally dedicated lobby!

But hey each to their own and DIRT certainly pleases a lot of people so i don't see codemasters changing their aproach anytime soon, plus the new WRC is actually having some pretty nice things said about it on this forum so theres still hope for all the DIRT haters :)

My only problem with Dirt 3 now, is that it creates horrible habits. Yes the physics are fun and seem to make sense, but wow are they far from real. I play that, and then play WRC or Rally on GT5 and then I'm all screwed up. Dirt 3 is still like Dirt 2, you can drive the stages with just the gas.

People go on about Dirt3 as an amazing game, british mag PSM rate is as the best racer on the PS3, and yes its fun, graphics are very good, but thats all it is, fun. Its gathering dust on my shelf already. You can't call the rallying anything like the real thing, the grip and traction is similar to that of Sega Rally, pure arcade, hardly any braking, very fast, and all spiced up, but thats was appeals to the masses and sells well.

The new WRC2 however, despite not being as raw and sim like as RBR, has far better handling than Dirt3, some stages are so bumpy you spend more time trying to keep the car on the road than really all balls out pushing on. You can really tweek the handling with all different diffs, setup etc and its impressive when you find the setup that suits you (rwd bias for example).

Like RBR, like GT5 in fact with all aids off, it needs effort and practice to be put in and it rewards when you can thread it through a stage (although RBR is pretty much extreme).....I had a mate round the other day, I put him on GT5 will all the aids off, G25 etc, and although he was very impressed with the graphics, he just couldn't drive in a straight line lol, he pretty much hated it at that level of requirement, he then played Dirt3 and I couldn't get him off it, enough said!

Blackbean are a small company, they are never going to have the backing (FIA have hardly got involved even if they are big) to produce a top selling well marketed game with top class graphics, instead they have chosen to bring out a series and try to improve it each year. And in my opinion it IS a big improvement on last years (and I still like 2010 too) and hopefully it will keep getting better.

Dude, that has to be one of the worst reviews I've ever read. It sounded like he judged it all one what people on GTP have said and watching the trailers. I would do yourself a favor and take that with grain of salt.

oh and scleeve, I could not agree more. I played Dirt 3 quite a bit when it first came out, and Im even considering trading it. Im just too into rally and would like anything that is more real, which it is not.

Oh my god it looks just as crap as the first one. It sounds and looks terrible.

Give the damn license to codemasters and let them make a decent wrc game.

I'll stick with dirt 3 thankyou!!
Codemasters managed to get great handling out of F1 and not much else right. So yeah, give it to them... 👎

This video shows that there are some very narrow stages in the game which is impressive.

I will be renting this game when I get a chance.

If you like rally games at all, get this. No thanks to all the poor reviews by gaming reviewers (obviously non Rally enthusiasts), I almost did not buy this game. It is so much better than Dirt and I do like Dirt. No, I don't like the gymkhana nonsense or the stupid voice overs. I've owned and played all the Colin McRae series which I love, and have multiple copies of the Dirt series (PS3 and PC). In terms of gameplay, this is much better than any of the Dirt series, in fact, no comparison. You have to brake, you have to handbrake, it's just good rallying fun. I played WRC 2010 a little but found that boring cos the stages were boring so didn't really get into it. I don't even recall doing handbrake turns. Anyway, that was 2010, in WRC 2 some of the stages are just pure gold. Sardinia (Sardegna) is one that comes to mind. Thank you Black Bean.

I must admit I have not really played RBR although I have that setup now. Something called iRacing takes up most of the PC driving time.

I do have some gripes about WRC 2 though, no support for separate axis pedals on the PC and no support for H shifter or clutch. No tuning of the wheel in game either. I'd have bought the PC version but for these reasons opted for the PS3.

Anyway, my thoughts probably doesn't matter, my 12 year old son prefers Dirt 2 and 3 and yes he likes the voice overs too! :(

Great posts itrdc5 and Tizzla! I was a little afraid the stages would be 100% copies from the previous version, but It seems they didn't and actually made some new, cool stages. I will get It soon, time for some rally action again after finishing the WRC championship of the 2010 version a while back.

Well said. I know it got mediocre reviews, and I was very hesitant, but I actually imported the game from the UK. And I don't regret it at all. I enjoyed DiRT 3, but in the end I just wanted so much more. I liked the rally and hated the rest, and I played it so much that I had a lot of the stages memorized. But I really dig WRC 2. No, it doesn't have Uncharted graphics, but it looks decent enough for me. I have an absolute blast when I play it each night, I love the big variety of stages. No rain/night stages, but the huge variety and different surfaces makes up for it to me.

Sadly, since I'm probably one of less than 5 people playing it stateside, by the time I get off work and come home nobody is online. I play on PS3 and could easily get the platinum trophy but there's never anyone on. I'm probably not good enough to win online anyway. Oh well, still a blast to play in my opinion.

Narrow, yes. But impressive? Not really. The high sides around parts of the circuit look like they've been intentionally made that way to limit what appears on screen at any one time by blocking the view, thus keeping the frame rate up.

Looks very similar to the stages in Dirt 3. Wonder how much longer the new stages will be? Longest in WRC2 was 8km I think.

"The Safari DLC consists of a special rally taking place in Tanzania and Kenya. It should be much longer than any other special WRC, the DLC is based on the real rally of the same name. This race, historical and legendary, is held every year since June 1953 in the vast territories of East Africa and will take place this year from November 19 to 28."

Am I the only one who see's a horrible blue filter over every stage...? :yuck:

Wow.

I should learn not to judge a book by it's cover. WRC 2 is actually a REALLY good game. I rented it today and it really impressed me. The stages are seriously narrow and technical and they are actually really detailed. The graphics overall look quite bland, but if you look closely there is actually a lot of detail in the scenery. The car models are nice to look at too in the showroom when you zoom in they show plenty of detail.

The road to the WRC career mode is really good I thought. It goes further than any previous WRC game letting you manage your team by hiring staff for specific roles like sponsorship, team leaders, mechanic etc and then you must assign them to negotiate with new sponsors or develop new parts for your car. You can also customize your team name and the numberplate on your cars. The difficulty seems a bit too easy, I have been using a DS3(Dualshock 3, not the citroen :D) on the second hardest level and I can still win by about 5 seconds, but I'm only on the rookie season at the moment.

So yea, if you haven't tried this game then check it out for yourself. The youtube videos don't do it any justice. The positives for me include the stage designs, the music, the career mode and general game structure. The car range, there are a lot of cars in this game. The damage model, the handling model is really good. The options in the game are very extensive. I was finding that the pace notes were too late, then I found there is an option for the pace notes to be very early/early/normal/late etc (late? surely not..)

The cons: Graphics could be better, engine sounds.

One of my main concerns in WRC 2010, great news they have that option and surprised that InsideSimRacing failed to mention it when they previewed it.

Definally gona give this a go after i get bored of spa in GT5 and MW3, which should be just in time for january sales :) lol

Good stuff, well said. 👍 This isn't the first time I've gone against the grain of "professional reviewers" and totally liked something. I don't regret picking it up at all, and people should at least try it before they dismiss it entirely.

Also, didn't know that you could tell the game to make pace notes earlier. Is that in game options? That would certainly help. A few times my co-driver said "Right 2" as I was outside repairing the car from hitting the barrier lol
