"Weary" & "Casio"...

Did you guys do the WRS back then for GT3? :mischievous:
(btw, I really don't know if you were or not- pardon my bad memory please)

Point is, if you guys weren't it might be possible that OLR and your involvement at the GTP might be a huge part of why GT4 seems easy.
(for example, the gt-one at cote... I took gold on that with ease once I used a gear one higher than was needed) (however I couldn't do that until I started a GTP membership and got into the WRS)

Any way, just wanted to mention that you guys are probably a whole lot better than you used to be. 👍
Maybe not though, maybe GT3 was harder.

Oh, and MisterWeary,
You may want to check out the "replay supported racers" in my sig.
It's related to the crc and a section of the gtp that didn't make it to GTP 8. :P

Thanks for your time.

Later. :sly:

I seem to remember GT3 licenses being a lot harder for me but looking back I'm sure it was just that I didn't have enough skill yet.

The gt-one license (S8 I think) was one of the most memorable for me. I had the exact same trouble as Kent mentioned and with the higher gear I beat it in a few laps. I thought that was cool until I saw the top times for that license

I didn't join the WRS until about week 7 or 8 into GT4.

But the GT4 licenses did seem a lot easier. Very few did I need more then 2 or 3 attempts at to get silver and bronzes. This was with a completely new physics engine, new tracks and I use auto. I knocked all the licenses over in a couple of hours of getting the game.

At least we had some missions that are somewhat difficult.

I think that at the very least, the gold times need to be harder, with a fantastic reward at the end for getting it.

Yeah I joined WRS in week 12 or something of GT4 so you're right Kent, I think my skills have improved, in fact, my latest crack at the qualifier race netted another 0.5 so I've definitely improved and I haven't looked at GT3 since I joined WRS so they could be easier now that I have some skill. Oh and I've changed my sig. thanks for the heads up 👍

As for Casio's point about better rewards I agree wholeheartedly. Getting the Model-T was kind of lame for putting all that effort into all gold's, I hope GT5 have some really neat rewards for good driving.

I may have asked this before but did anyone (like me) find the Time Trial around Complex String in GT3 harder than Mission 34 in GT4???

Iceman,

Those were the days when I was beating you in races! ;)
Now I'm lucky to keep up. :ashamed:
:D

I just felt like GT3's licenses weren't all that hard since I managed to Gold all of them after some time with the WRS.
On top of that, it was never even a goal of mine... I just tried one and it was far easier than I remember (from when I first got GT3).
I stuck with it and from what I can tell, the WRS whipped me into shape well enough that I could gold everything without too much trouble at all. 👍

As for GT4, I still haven't come around to doing the licenses for gold's sake. At this time I'm happy with OLR and exploration.
I have spent some time with the licenses in GT4 but not enough.

The only 2 I reallly remember getting down on were the S13 at Infineon in the R8 as well as the AMG DTM at the Ring.

The Audi was a gold time early on since I was spending a ton of time in the R8 already.
The DTM at the Ring was a bit harder for me since I only did it to get a bronze when the game first came out. However, several months later I ran it again and managed to beat gold with ease. :sly:

The internet, OLR, and the GTP are responsible for my improvements between GT2 and GT3.
Right around that time I suddenly found all of the game to be much easier. 👍

GT1 was automatic and banging for me, pretty much the same for GT2 (only I started an interest in Free Run with GT2).

GT3... Changed everything.
I found the GTP just so I could get a prize car list and ask a few questions.
After asking enough questions BoomBexus told me to hold out for a new series (the wrs).

Started running with the wrs and after a few weeks I was already improving.

The WRS is the place to improve your skills for sure, no doubt about it.

Edit:
btw, Mr Weary,
I loved complex string and I'm gonna have to say the final mission was tougher on me. :P
(maybe I should go back to that though, I have to cut corners so I could beat that mission) :banghead:

:ranting now:
Check out week 100 from the wrs archives. 👍
Great week with up to 3 entries per person at complex string. :mischievous:

GT3 licenses was harder for me for sure. at the end of GT3 WRS i was no slow guy but i still couldnt gold all the licenses, in GT4 it took only a matter of days to get all 80 gold and this was while i was learning the game!.

GT3 licenses were way harder imho.

But for sure being here in WRS over the years (yes years now!!) has made me 1000x faster than i used to be, but i still think gold in GT4 is easier than GT3.

Very interesting discussion on license tests. To tell the truth, in GT1 and 2 I don't remember the tests, because as Kent said, I was also a wall banger until late into GT2. (An ill handling Lotus at red rock valley became my crusade to run clean back then. :dopey: ) GT3 changed everything for me. Although I didn't participate, I became aware of OLR and started comparing my license times with some of the times in sites like gold junkies, gtrp, etc. (Don't know if gold junkies site is even up anymore?)

So anyway, I have never been a gold junkie anyway. So when I got GT4, I just blasted through all the license tests and whatever I got on the test so be it. I think I had 17 golds, and I don't remember the silvers and bronze. But I remember when I first did the tests that some of them seemed pretty tough. This was pre-WRS. I joined at week 5 of the GT4 WRS.

But about a week ago Daan asked for a NTSC replay of Mission 34 done successfully to WRS standards. ie no offs or touches. So I worked on that one night, and got it for him. I didn't have a lot of time this week to do the WRS event, so I got to thinking about the license tests.

Long story short, I went through and golded all 80 (-17) in two sessions.
It seemed ridiculously easy to me, but in reality I believe it is my experience with WRS that has made it so. I guess it's true that if you hang around the best, a little is bound to rub off eh? :)

@Small Fryz- Welcome back mate. 👍 Now where is Z. and Vexd and MR8 and Alpine and Puck and Kenny and so on and so on?

I don't know if this has been posted or not, but a few months ago a few of the Portland GT4ers headed over to BobKarts place for a LAN party (all BobKarts equipment) and these are the pictures: hot604boi, tuff240, me, Jump_Ace and KLR are all in there ... guess who is who :P

Well in photo #4 you can see the guy closest to the camera is in position 1...surely that's hotboi :sly:

The licenses in GT3 were a joke for me. In GT4 I can get silver pretty easily, but gold is alot harder for me right now. I'm somewhere around 36/40/4, but I only just recently finished the S license. I haven't gone back to earlier licenses to gold them all. For now License B is all gold, the rest need to be worked on. I know that the S license one with the Motul Pitwork Z on Suzuka will be a pain among others. Then there's the other at Infineon, and the other at La Sarthe... already dreading it.

As for mission 34, I only beat it by .4 seconds about a month ago. That was tough for me, but I know there's alot more time to go get that's achievable for me atleast. In comparison, time trial 10 on Complex String was easy... just had to beat Kaz's time, which was pretty easy.

Y'all are so lucky to have those I-link meetings. :dopey:

Now, this is a bit off subject (which is hard to do in a chit-chat thread).

However, I've just completed a new lap in my favorite combo- McLaren F1 @ Nurburgring.

I also got a good lesson on why the "save replay" as well as "save ghost" options are availible. :D

Well, I ran a dirty 5'28.4??
But that was dirty so it didn't matter too much.

That is, except for the fact that I would have to beat that time to save a "ghost" replay. :(

Well I didn't manage to beat that time but I still managed to beat my previous best clean lap going from 5'31.2 -> 5'28.9.

So, I ran the lap on my first try of that session, then went past the finish line by a good margin and then quit.

After that I went to the "save replay" and did my thing... Sure enough, the replay starts way back before I crossed the start line, then plays through the entire lap, all the way past the finish (where my time is clearly printed on the screen), and finally the replay ends.

Interestingly enough, the time marked on the replay is not the total time of the replay, but instead, the fastest lap of that session. So remember that if you ever manage a great clean lap that doesn't beat your fastest dirty lap you can always save the replay and not just the ghost. 👍
(but that's not a good idea for the WRS as the "ghost" replay is required when a replay is requested) (I think :ouch: )

I was lucky to catch that lap in a normal replay and even more lucky because of the fact that this lap is a personal race and not a race to be submitted. :dopey:

In any case, I beat my best lap, went under 5'30, and still managed to keep it clean.

Oddly, I'm not done with the combo. :mischievous:
I will get 5'27 before long (I hope).

Well, until next time,

Very nice time Kent. 👍 Since you mentioned it the other day, it has become my new fav also. I haven't gotten back to this combo yet, (ran WRS last night) But you are right, 5'27 is achievable I think. Good luck! It would be a great lap to have saved. 👍 I will get back to it again soon also. :)
Did you break the 1'00 mark at T2? Try as I may, I have only been able to get down to 1'00.2. I know, it's just .2 but it would look so sweet on the replay!

Regarding replays, I have submitted a full replay before in WRS.(I don't remember which one though.) But you are correct. It does say in the race layouts to save your best "ghost" replay. :ouch:
The only problem I could see in submitting a full replay is if the event is a race with walls or a rally event (invisible walls) the replay can't be checked for touches using the analyzer, which makes the replay fairly useless for verification.

I remember thinking about this when we ran the subie at trial mountain a few weeks back. Quite a few people, (including the chief steward :D )
said they were going to save their lap as a full replay as a point of sportsmanship to show that they were not cutting the chicane before the start of the lap. I don't know how many actually did this though, and it didn't make any difference in any of the replays I viewed.

It's true that the replay prevents any access to the data logger, but I haven't come across many replays submitted instead of ghosts.
I think just once on week 35 where the submitted lap was lap 13 (on GV East) before there was another faster but dirty lap.
And I did post a replay instead of a ghost in the Subaru (week 34) as I had said, but I was the only one (PAL) to do so.

BTW, to stay off-topic, if you like the Nürb, there is a nice race at the Numbers this week with a Wedgesport Celica. ;)

flat-out

Wow!! What a great concept for a series! I had never heard of it.:indiff:
If the series continues, I will have to try a few races over there just for fun. 👍 But for this race, I think it is appropriate for those that participated in the whole series to race together. I wouldn't feel right about barging in.

It is indeed fun, but only possible when all the racers are trustworthy.

hey guys,

here is an idea some will like... some won't

for the next multi lapper race that we do... can we instead of using single race mode, use time trial mode

either way, when you mess up you will end up restarting

so for the multi lap time trial mode, the emphasis is still consistency
but without the dumbass AI...

all you have to do for verification is save replay...

I've seen it as low as 59.2. :mischievous:

I just can't put anything together... The 5'28.9 is on a lap over 1'00.1

The thing is, I try to keep myself off the edge just so I can finish laps.

If I can improve tonight I will keep you informed on my progress. 👍

Until next time,
-Kent

PS, I just can't wait until I can finish the Arcade mode race and get to the tuning of the GT mode (I'm already working on it from time to time). :D

shockwaveracing
hell i don't know if there are any WRSer's from Perth either... :(

ah well...

I live on the other side of Aus and it's probably quicker to go west, past South Africa to get to my side :sly:

Of all the things I didn't expect, this was one of them...

Clean replay, saved ghost...

0'34.293
0'59.908
1'21.979
2'01.424
2'30.363
2'50.584
3'29.584
4'02.419
4'19.323
4'52.403
5'10.462
5'27.993
Final Time!

Clean and happy. :dopey:
(replay will be posted soon too)

Edit:
If someone really fast puts it down in this car it may go lower than 5'20 (but not by too much  ).

It's just a matter of patience over time for me, I've been playing with this combo on and off since GT4 came out.

Maybe one of you really fast racers could try? Please?
Thanks, will be in awe if someone can get 5'20.
I figure 59.3 is a starting point... If I could bank on a lap starting with 59.3 it might be possible for me to go down to 5'25; another racer, 5'22? :mischievous:

Good luck to any brave enough to try and patient enough to finish. 👍

Everywhere in Australia is 1000km from the next place, it ruins our chances of having one great GT4 L.A.N event. I suppose we could just meet in the middle to be fair; 2/3 day drive for the 'GTP at Uluru' meeting anyone?!

Sounds extremely quick already... What are the specifications? Arcade, GT? Fully modded car?

This weeks' race is a little frustrating for me, can't keep that understeer under control at all time, which means I can't get a quick time. So I'm open to other stuff, and the McLaren F1 on Nurb sounds like fun, won't take too long to complete a lap, and plenty of speed and grip (hopefully).

Plenty of everything and maybe too much of some. :scared:
Not really sure I can describe it well.

I'd say just give it a try.

Deal is simple...
Arcade Mode Full Quick Tune R5 Tires

I'm not gonna kid around and act like that's a slow time. It's not "slow" but it's probably still not that "fast."
I know it can be beat but by how much? That's why I always love to hear from other racers.
So please catch a run, it may be challenging so don't sweat it if you have to take some time to get comfy with the car. 👍

Good luck and get back to us when you've got something for us. :D
Till then,
