A few 2 or 3 lap races prior to qualifying would help drivers get a feel for the race start. Turn 1 is very different on cold tires at lower speeds. You are running a fine line between losing a few 10ths to the leader or ending up in the grass losing 5-10 seconds. Decide how much risk you want to take and remember to respect qualifying. What good is it to get around the car ahead of you when he qualified faster? Chances are, he'll just get around you on the next turn.

Divebombing, when done properly, is an effective passing tactic to get around one car. However, if you do it at the start of the race, you'll end up taking out a car further ahead when you understeer and miss your turn in point. Everyone, the race leader included, will take the first turn slow, so be prepared to coast into the turn and modulate your braking to ride the bumper of the car ahead of you. They almost always will brake early to avoid hitting the car ahead of them...and by the time you get 5 cars back, the brake zone can often be well before the first brake marker.

well said i knew there was a reason i like you. now only if they listen, j/k guys...lol, just don't hit me im so tired of getting disappointed, i like winning also

... All of the reserve drivers do need to come practice with us at some point. Whether its in a pre-season race or in a weekly practice that we hold in our lobbies...

I'd definitely like to join in on practice and even the practice race at GP/F if there is a spot open. Do you have a set schedule for practice or just whenever someone opens a room and places a message here in the thread?

At this point I've got an acceptable tune only for the Lexus though and have done some practice with it in GP/F so I'm in good shape if I can use that car. I've been running the WRS all week on GP/F so the timing is perfect.

I'll be around and can join up to the last minute (with that car) if there is a cancellation. I won't have time in one day to tune and practice with all three makes though unless someone provides a good starting tune (and a little notice). For future weeks I can ready a car from all three stables.

Our practice sessions are pretty random. Like I said, just send a PSN friend invite to me or lucky. I'm usually in my lobby practicing for the upcoming race. As far as I know all of the Lexus are still available. Looks like the Petronas might be the first one that gets two drivers.

Thanks. If I get to pick a car I'll take the Lexus PETRONAS TOM’S SC430 ‘08 since I already have a nice tune for it. But of course there are two reserve drivers ahead of me so I'll wait my turn and wait for the regular drivers to finalize their car choices.

I already sent you a friend request (last night) and waiting for a response. luckylefty2gunz has already responded and is on my friends list. I'll keep an eye on your lobbies when I get a chance to practice again. For now I've got to work a little harder to grab a D3 podium in the WRS. Has anyone else posted practice lap times for GP/F on RM tires?

I've now got a decent tune and some practice with the Honda Arta NSX as well so if one of the Honda drivers can't make it I'll be ready to step in for that team as well as the Lexus. It's not as fast as the Lexus PETRONAS setup... I was running mostly 1'58-1'59, but it's more stable and might be a better race setup. The transmission hasn't been customized for GP/F though so probably more speed left in it.

Now just have to set something up and do some practice with one of the Nissans (probably the YellowHat).

your doing the right things over there man i was a reserve driver in another series and had to practice all the cars also so i know what your going through with testing but after two wins in a row they had no choice but to add me as a full time driver so keep up the good work and it will pay off at some point

Thanks. It's not like it's hard work or anything, this is fun 👍

I've been running offline time trials with the WRS for some time now and wanting to branch out more to live racing and this looked like a fun series at a perfect time slot (for west coast). I see one other series you are in and some of those drivers regularly run WRS and are out of my league (alien-like) so if you can run with them and/or beat them I don't expect many first place finishes.

Don't mind waiting my turn as I'm still pretty committed to improving via WRS for a while. I'll get a few car setups in hand and do a little practice on each track and be ready. Although I'm so dialed in to GP/F at the moment I'd love to take part in the practice race. I'll be on stand by in case a slot opens for that practice race last minute.

I'm sure there will be a slot open...stay tuned ;)

Sent a FR to RedLine and i've been practicing with the NSX Raybrig. Is that car still available? I was able to fix all that oversteer I was getting.

I was doing the WRS when the network was down, now I just don't have the time to put into it.

Don't worry about being out of your league in this series. ;)

yeah we are all slow and can't even keep it on the track... you have nothing to worry about

Hi Grayfox! I used the Raybrig in the previous races...but I recently switch to the lexus...so I guess no one is using that car at the moment. 👍

My poker game got cancelled tonight so I'll be in my lobby practicing around 9pm PST. Unless Lucky wants to host practice room later tonight. We are getting an update tonight, right?

I wouldn't go that far, but we don't have any of the really fast guys like he is talking about. I'd consider this an average level series, there are enough of the series where the average driver has no chance of winning, this one is almost perfect. I think we have a perfect series level without any worry about any 2 or 3 drivers being dominant.

Unless someone has really been sandbagging up to now. :sly:

I'll try to join you around 9 pm. Lucky is also on my friends list so I'll check both lobbies and this thread before that time.

I think there is planned maintenance for GT5 online services from 8-9 pm tonight (8/30/2011 03:00-04:00 GMT). Hopefully they get done what they need done by 9 pm PST.

EDIT: maintenance happening now, just got a message... hopefully they'll be done early too.

i think there are a couple drivers not giving it there all in preseason. I know i could find a second or more if needed, but i think you have made a inaccurate statement i am willing to bet that only a couple of us will be fighting for the championship.

I won't be practicing tonight guys. I've got 4 fantasy football drafts to get ready for. I will definitely be on early before the race tomorrow.

I am practicing in my lounge if anyone wants to join. Send me a FR. PSN GTP_WRP001. I'll be on for an hour or two and post back when I quit.

EDIT: We are in lucky's lounge.

lets get some more guys in here
don't be afraid join

I would encourage drivers to find a tune that will keep them on the track. If that means using massive positive rear toe and full downforce then do it. You'll finish better by staying on the track than being 1-2 seconds faster and crashing every 3 laps.

Brake early and coast through the hairpins instead of diving in with full brakes. It will keep your front tires cooler, providing more grip for turning. A single lap might be slower, but your average over many laps will be faster.

If anyone is struggling with a car, I suggest asking your manufacturer teammates for some suggestions. I know tuners like to keep their secrets, but it will be much more exciting to see everyone battling closely for position than to see a bunch of break-aways every race.

Finally, remember that damage and tire wear plays a key role in an endurance. You can run slower laps, save your tires, and stay out of trouble and end up winning the race when your opponents push too hard, too early. Don't try to win the race on the first lap and you'll be in a better position to win the race on the last lap.

Rev can't get into Lucky's room...

Lucky can't get into Rev's room...

What's up with that?

when i set up the room i will have rev join before others to avoid any incompatiblity issues that should take care of that problem, but we have had problems connecting before (not being able to see him on track) i will open a online lobby to see if rev can join that lobby for practice. i will post room number when i get online

The fixed-host public lobby sometimes helps with that...but usually its a router issue with one of the affected parties.
