Chuyler - After a stop for soft tires you eventually caught up with me on lap 8. You made contact moving me out of your way. TheDude was right in front of me and you caused yourself and him damage by going two wide in one of the narrowest parts of the track. I'm just not sure why contact was made in either situation. You were obviously faster but the car ahead has rights to the track as well. Especially on a track with a long straight tailor made for passing. Maybe just a little more patience next time.

Take a look at this from my POV in the video I posted above (10:00 in). The only contact I made with you was after track-out when we were going straight. The safe approach to the next turn is to be on the left which is the direction you were heading. I misjudged the timing of your move from right to left by a split second and tapped your outside corner. If anything I gave you a boost. After that I gained a 1/2 car length before turn 6 and had fair rights to the entry.

When I came across theDude, I actually could have passed him between 6 and 7 but he closed the door by driving in the middle of the track. It looked to me like he already had damage but it could have just been network latency. I waited until the exit of turn 8 and when he went to to the right I stayed full throttle on the left. I used half of the track width and there was no contact on my screen. If I thought there was contact, I would have given back the position.

As for patience, I'll save that for a good battle. I was probably running close to 5 seconds faster per lap at that point. The two of you were basically sitting ducks still lingering on the track with worn out RM tires. I can be patient, but not when its going to cost me 3-5 seconds.

I think your misunderstanding. You have to be more patient. You cannot just plow your way through the field because you have fresher tires. Don't assume you gave me a boost. Your the one every week trying to teach people how to drive on these forums. Practice what you preach.

Pope - Lapped traffic must give way ASAP.
Pope yielded to me just fine on turn 5. I came up fast out of turn 4 and hit the throttle when I thought he was going to...he didn't so I tapped him. After that he went wide through 5 so I could pass on the inside. Thanks :)

Lucky - The only thing I didn't like was the bump drafting on Drex.
Although GT500 cars don't really do this IRL, it is an effective way to improve lap times. I've raced 20 laps bump drafting with Lucky and had no issues. If the leaders were smart, they would have done it to increase their gap. There is a good second to gain per lap by doing it effectively.

Boshuter - You were having a pretty good run til a massive off all by yourself. You let the traffic go by then tried to turn around. Sideways in the middle of the track more traffic came and Lucky nailed ya. I could see that the track map was cut off right there so you couldn't see cars that were coming until they were pretty close.
This is where having mics enabled really helps. All someone has to do is mention they wrecked on turn XX as a warning to others coming up the track. It serves as a partial course caution. Of course if the driver doesn't have a mic, its up to someone else who does to alert the other drivers.

I just realized that pope said he couldn't see lucky on his screen.
It seems to me that POPE is the only one having issues. Next week, try connecting the PS3 directly to the broadband modem. It is likely the NAT type and/or UPnP settings are wrong which causes blocked packets from specific drivers.

Also, I'm sorry about changing the track during practice...but since I was on RH tires I couldn't get around the track. I had spent 2 evenings practicing and when I went out the first time I crashed after 3 turns. I went out a 2nd time and by lap 3 my tires were still blue and I couldn't throttle out of any turn. I mentioned the track needed to be reset...that was my polite request. When it didn't happen I wasn't going to hang out for another 15 minutes and discuss whether the bug existed. It does. We switched tracks and 1/2 way through my first lap my tires started staying white/lightblue.

If the host (POPE) chooses the track from his GTLife lobby settings and then jumps into the lobby, the tires will not warm up. The best way to fix this is set your lobby to use an undesirable initial track like Chamonix. That way every time you enter it, you'll be forced to change the track.

luckylefty2gunz
no practice and trying to race clean just don't go together as most of us already know hopefully for the clean racers in series changes will come and your guys season won't be for not good luck to the clean and to the dirty 🤬 you and have a nice day

I take offence to this lucky ;)
Between my wife,11 year old son, and 2 jobs I never have time for practice, which is why I was a back marker all race...
It is also why I have to take some of the blame for the incident on lap 2, it was only my 4 time around the track, counting qualifying and I got a little skittish with pope to my right, and 2 cars right behind me going into a fast turn I have trouble with sometimes...which is y I let off the gas...sorry again to pope and sass...
After lap 10 I was pulling constant 1:36-1:38 times and even passing guys that lapped me...
I think I ran a clean race though...if any one thinks differently plz let me know, I will ignore you from now on lol

And I'm just joking around with u lucky :) I hope to see u again in this series, if not ill see u in the FIA league on Sunday

I just realized that pope said he couldn't see lucky on his screen.

that's strange(:odd:) because i could see him and i don't know don't really care but i think lap 2 or very early on for that matter going into T1 somebody punted me into the wall. there are some really cool people in this series so i will keep up with this thread but for competing it's just not worth my time or efforts, thanks to the guys who know what they are doing in here and you know who you are if ya don't your probably one of the problems and have been removed from my friends list. to you guys that still are there i look forward to a lot more good racing with ya

that's the network bug for ya. You might be able to see everyone, but that doesn't mean they can see you. If you don't see all the drivers on the track or someone appears as indefinitely loading in the lobby...its because their network traffic is being blocked by your connection.

In each description of what I saw in the replay, I think I was pretty clear that I knew and understood what happen in each case. Pope could not see Lucky therefor how could he yield to him. I think I covered that. I think I made it very clear that I understood what Lucky was doing when he was bump drafting. I fully comprehend the benefits of bump drafting. Also he was doing it with Drex who he knows and is confident to be racing with. I think to prevent any unnecessary complaints it would be wise to just make the pass. On the boshuter issue, there really was no issue. This guy lead this race convincingly for a long period of time then wrecked in a bad spot. There really was nothing he could do but try and turn around. Very narrow where he wrecked.

I said it at the beginning of the season and I'll say it again, there will be contact, there will be incidents. Anyone who thinks there won't be is out of their mind. My problem is, there were some avoidable things taking place. And like I said before it comes down to decision making. Chuyler did not have to make contact with me or TheDude. A really good driver would have picked a better spot to make a pass. The moves you made I would liken to Dale Sr., Paul Tracy or Juan Pablo. Overly aggressive. I love those drivers but we have to try and keep our cool in this videogame we're playing. You said your going to save your patience for a good battle. We were the cars in front of you and you still have to have patience with us on worn out mediums. Whether you lose a few seconds or not that's part of racing with other people. Otherwise why don't we just have qualifying and call that the race? We have rules for this series but there are also GTPlanet rules that apply as well. Go have a read and tell me that you didn't break some of those.

Lucky leaving doesn't surprise me. He is extremely competitive and just wants to win. If you watch the replay of his race it was brutal. The worst possible luck someone could have. But he kept digging almost to the end. I wish he wouldn't leave but I understand his frustration.

I didn't have any noticeable contact with chuylr. I moved over so he could pass. If there was a scrub I didn't notice. I only had one problem. I think it was between laps 26 and 30. At the end of the main straight I had contact with damage because I was on the inside (off line) and wasn't sure of the braking point was. I braked a little early and let off. wasn't brake checking anyone. Rotor was behind me coming into the brake zone and bumped me into the wall. It wasn't a great move but unintentional.

OP updated with new standings.

I dunno what to say about everything. There's been a number of connection issues, and it seems that mine were a big issue this week. Next week i'll be doing a visual check to make sure i see everyone on track. If i don't, and leaving and re-entering the lobby doesn't help i'll back out of the race. The incident with lucky seeing me and me not seeing lucky is the first i've heard of.

Much like tr1mble, i don't have much time to practice. I feel lucky that i can get on for a few hours a week, so practice is usually just before the race. I'm content being a back marker, and realize that with my limited practice and skills, gt500 was a bit much for me. However, i don't want to be the reason someone had to quit a series. So we will continue with running a two lap practice start, at which point i'll do a visually check to see that i see everyone. And i hope that no one else had issues with lapping me on track this week, i was trying to make an effort the past few weeks to make up for our laguna seca pre-season race.

Sassafrass was right, i made a point to tell everyone the procedure for taking themselves out of the race(pitting), and i didn't follow it. I'm sorry about that, wasn't thinking. Won't happen again.

Thanks dude for letting me know there was no damage. In the replay I heard a thud and thought you guys both got damage. Sry guys for making such a big deal about it.

I'm really looking forward to Laguna this week. In the pre-season race I kept my car on track until the finish. A first for me at Laguna. Hopefully we have an uneventful turn 1 just like last week.

Question: Does heavy damage suck the fun out of the races? Not just in this series. I've always loved heavy damage. Driving the whole race with the anxiety of caring for your car. I'm just starting to wonder if its really worth it.

Pros of heavy damage:
* Drivers must race a safe line around the track, which may not necessarily be the fastest
* Drivers must use extreme caution at the start of races as 3-wide racing often leads to 2-wide racing with some poor chap in the gutter with engine damage.
* Unscheduled pit stops can force different tire strategies
* Even a driver with a huge lead could end their race with a single mistake
* Consistency is rewarded higher than speed

Cons of heavy damage
* Other drivers causing you damage (whether intentional or not)
* Damage caused from lag spikes

If you ask me, the pros outweigh the cons as long as drivers know to race within their ability. The biggest issue, to no surprise, is brake zones. Drivers who race with pedals have a huge advantage but here are some tips...

* If there is someone behind you and you're not sure how well they brake. Leave room on the outside of the track in a heavy braking zone and turn in early. You will sacrifice a little bit on your lap time, but if they miss their brake zone, they'll have plenty of room to avoid you. It will also close the door to any risky inside divebombing.

* If you are following someone and see any glitching or lagging...back off and wait until it subsides before attempting to run close to them. Close is relative to the lag, sometimes cars can jump significantly so it is best to pull out of their draft and stay clear.

* Trailing someone into braking zones requires lifting off the gas before them and braking earlier and lighter to maintain the gap. With 50% brake you usually can close the gap on the driver before you reach the apex, especially if they are braking aggressively to pull away from you and miss their turn in point. Any time lost from braking early you'll make up in the draft anyway, so it isn't critical to stay on someone's bumper all the way around the track.

I had some connection issues and contacted the Playstation network. After helping me I told him I knew some people that get disconnected allot and sometimes can't see each other on the track. The tech told me going to hard line wasn't necessary. He told me it was a firewall issue. He directed me where to go and gave me some numbers that created the proper range for their network. So far I haven't been disconnected. I told REV but the rest of you could try it if your having constant trouble with this. I hope it's the problem so we can resolve the issue and end races with the same amount of people that started.

yes please, share your info. These connection issues have been ruining our series.

No idea where changes were made. Call PSN, and talk to a tech. Tell them the issue and you need firewall range settings for GT5. He told me each game has its own ranges and has to be done separately. Please try. If it works for you others will try.

The other option is to make sure UPnP is enabled. This usually resolves any routing issues between individual drivers.

WiFi is not usually the issue when drivers are missing on the track, but switching to a hard link will reduce periodic lag spikes. The game doesn't require a lot of bandwidth, but it does require a constant, uninterrupted connection.

My upnp was on since I started the game. I don't know much about computers so I let the tech help thinking even if it didn't fix it I could rule things out. Its been almost a week and not a blip. If any of the guys who always seem to have trouble try it, and it helps, then the rest might try.

what brand/model router do you have? Just curious to see if specific ones have trouble.

Working late tonight. I might be home in time to race, but might be too tired. So if I'm not online playing GT5(might be online, wife uses the ps3) then assume I'm not coming. I didn't change the default track so there shouldn't be an issue with tires like last week. Also, once the initial setting are put in, only Sassafrass should be in the settings menus.

If I don't make it, have a good race. Remember, the top three from last week are on hards.

Cisco, that's the problem. Everyone's on a different router with their own firewall settings and some don't work together. That's what the range settings adjustment does. It covers all of GT5's ranges.

There is a PS3 system update. Make sure you login early enough to install it. :)

Laguna Seca Results:

1. Nic-KL
2. GreyFox
3. Chuyler
4. Sassafrass
5. TheDude
6. RevJack
7. Drex (Disconnect)

Nice race for Nic-KL, congratulations on the win. Looks like him and GreyFox had a good battle throughout the whole race. We had a clean turn one and a pretty clean race. I have to apologize to Chuyler, I probably held you up some at the beginning. You were on hards and I was carefully making my way around trying not to wreck myself. Very courteous of you to wait for the Dude after an incident in turn 3. Looks like Drex got disconnected, not sure though.

Start of the race i might have been able to run a little faster, but not much. I was on hards and therefore had to be careful to brake much earlier. I swapped them out on lap 1. I hit the brakes at my usual spot entering the pits but we got bottled up and a bumped you after the game took control. LOL, that's a horrible pit entry.

It took a few laps to catch you after the pit stop and i tried my best to study your brake points so i could find a place to pass. This time we were on equal tires. I thought I had enough to draft pass into turn 2 but i backed off. I may have freaked you out because you went wide, leaving the inside open. However, that wasn't enough for me to pass. I got along side through the exit of turn 2 then I hit the brakes early for turn 3 and ducked under you to have the inside line into turn 4 and pulled away after that. Great battle.

A few laps later i came across theDude. I followed him for about a lap and then planned to make a pass on the stretch between 4 and 5. I came up close with a good exit from turn 3 and then tapped the brakes and started turning in for turn 4...but theDude was still braking when I turned in. I forgot he was on worn out mediums and I bumped him off the track. That mistake cost me 17 seconds while I waited for him to get out of the sand trap. Sorry dude :(

That mistake pretty much cost me the win. I was within 15 seconds of the leaders beforehand and afterward i was back to 33 (where I started on lap 2). There wasn't going to be enough time to catch up...unless someone made a mistake.

Around lap 11-12 I came across GrayFox. I forget how the exchange went exactly, will have to check the replay. I think I may have caught him after he made his first pit stop...either that or he caught me. In any case, he was in my rearview for a few laps and the last thing I wanted was to pull one of the leaders around the track when I was a pit stop behind. So I made an early pit stop on lap 13.

Laps 14-38 i didn't see anyone on the track except revjack. I must have passed him 4 times since we were on different pit strategies. By the 4th time I was getting very nervous. There just was no safe way around him and his pace was too slow and unpredictable to follow. On lap 24 I think he tried to move out of the way between turns 5 and 6, but he sat on the inside. I knew he wasn't going to stick an inside line to turn 6 so I slowed down...but he cut across the track in front of me and i got suspension damage. I was 16 seconds behind at that point. I needed to wait until lap 26 to pit so I stayed out and ended up about 19 seconds behind when i went in for my pit stop.

Around lap 35 i noticed my split times decrease quickly a few times...which I think was GrayFox and Nic battling it out. My hope was that it would continue but it didn't...and then i saw my lap times level out. Nic was in the lead and running very quick laps.

Lap 38 I started catching grayFox's draft. Going up the hill into the corkscrew on lap 39 I was in position to hopefully make a pass on the final lap...but I locked up the brakes and went wide into the sand trap. I was so pissed...because it would have been a great last lap battle.

Brakes on my NSX were bugging me all night. The car just felt incredibly slick braking into the corkscrew and into the final turn. If I hit the brakes early i'd end up coasting through the turn at a very slow speed...but if I ht the brakes any later, the car would fly wide. I just couldn't get consistency out of it.

Anyway, great race Nic and GrayFox!

Drex here, Got damage after I hooked the corkscrew on lap 4. I hit the pits a bit fast and it glitched. I couldn't see tire choices and it stuck like that and I sat in pits for 30 seconds and realized the cursor was there so I tried choosing softs on memory and left. Basically a lap Down. 14 laps later I pit again down a few laps and saw I had hards in front mediums in rear.

So I quit.
I knew it glitches on laguna if you go flyin in the pits, but that was bad. I didn't hit any walls just came in kinda quick.

And last week I ran no downforce and that went bad, quick.

Next week. I'll make it till the end, I promise.

How is the tire penalty going to work with next week's "special stage" at Tsukuba? I see multiple options...

1) Force the top 3 drivers from previous week to use RH tires all night (not a fan of this one because it means they will be sitting ducks, even with the reverse grid)

2) Force the top 3 drivers from previous week to use RH tiers only on the first of the 5 races (a little better, but not much of a penalty)

3) Forgo tire penalty for the races entirely and force top 3 drivers from Laguna as well as top 3 drivers from Tsukuba to start on RH tires at Deep Forest.

And if I were to state my preference, I'll say it like this: I will not show up if I am forced to run all 5 races at Tsukuba on RH tires while everyone else gets RMs. It is simply too much of a handicap to overcome in just 10 laps and it isn't my idea of a fun evening. I'm sure Nic and GrayFox will agree.

There will be no tire penalty for the Special Stage. Everyone will run on racing softs and damage will be on light. This stage is supposed to be a fun shootout. There is going to be alot of contact on a very small track. We will all end up in the sand at least once I guarantee it. I don't wanna see any punting. This track actually could be too small. Maybe we should change it to Suzuka East?

I haven't run any GT500 laps on either track...but each has its challenges.

Most drivers can make it around Tsukuba without leaving the pavement. Suzuka east is far more difficult with a high speed turn 1 that is easy to overshoot and a blind final corner before the straight that is difficult to see.
