Hmm, free XBLA arcade game...

That is a shooter made by interns, not a shooter about interns.
This is kinda cool, Microsoft is giving away an Xbox Live Arcade game this Wednesday. Aegis Wing is a side-scrolling, sci-fi shooter made by three Microsoft interns over the summer.
Aegis Wing supports up to four players locally or on Live and has a what sounds to be a couple of neat features including the ability to lock ships with your friends to access super weapons. The game goes live, for free to Silver and Gold members at 2 a.m. pacific on Wednesday.

Xbox LIVE Arcade Intern Project Game "Aegis Wing" Launches This Week as Free Gift to Gamers
REDMOND, Wash. -- May 14, 2007 -- This Wednesday, team up with up to three of your friends and prepare yourselves for intense side-scrolling, sci-fi shooting action in "Aegis Wing." Originally conceived by three Microsoft Corp. interns over the course of a summer, "Aegis Wing" will be available for free to all Xbox LIVE® Silver and Gold members in North America for a limited time. "Aegis Wing" will be available for download on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360™ beginning Wednesday, May 16, at 2 a.m. PDT.
"Aegis Wing" is a 2-D side-scrolling space shooter that combines epic space combat with fantastic visuals, and is set to a rich symphonic soundtrack. It is set in the year 2105, when humanity must flee a dying Earth for the distant world Europa. But this new home is soon threatened by a powerful alien race, the Araxia. With stolen Araxian technology, the Europa fleet develops an experimental star fighter and assigns four ace pilots to test it. The Aegis Wing is born, and it becomes your mission to wield this new technology as humanity's last hope for survival.
Up to four players can play together either locally or over Xbox LIVE to defeat waves of nefarious Araxian ships and bosses, and can even combine spacecraft in two-, three- or four-ship formations to access powerful Super Weapons.
"Aegis Wing" was originally conceived by three students - Scott Brodie, Danny Dyer and Matt Monson - during a summer internship at Xbox LIVE Arcade. The students worked in tandem with Carbonated Games - the creators of fan-favorite, UNO® - to bring the game to the Xbox LIVE Arcade community. The full version of "Aegis Wing" is being released on Xbox LIVE Arcade free of charge and will be available for a limited time.
Game Features
• Amazing environmental art
• Full symphonic soundtrack
• Up to four-player simultaneous cooperative multiplayer gameplay, either locally on the same Xbox 360 console or over Xbox LIVE*
• Ability to attach your ship to your wingmen's spacecraft to gain the "turret" ability and increase the firepower of the Super Weapons
• Four Super Weapons: the Hades Beam (wreaks total destruction), the Gorgon Burst (wipes out incoming fire and disables enemy spacecraft with an electromagnetic pulse), the Arcus Missile (a heat-seeking missile) and the Lambda Shield (deflects incoming fire back at enemies)
• Six epic missions and several memorable boss encounters to fight through
Where Can I Get It?
You can download "Aegis Wing" beginning Wednesday, May 16, at 2 a.m. PDT on Xbox LIVE Arcade. "Aegis Wing" will be available for download in North America only. "Aegis Wing" is rated E for Everyone, with Mild Fantasy Violence.

How long to the batteries last in the wireless controllers? If they were to be used for roughly 5 hours a day, for 4 days, would the same set of AA Duracells* last?

* Other batteries may also be available

I think I get about 6-7 hours out of my rechargable batteries. I normally use the xbox for about an hour a night and I normally charge once a week. It does depend on whether the game has lots of vibration though. Your duracells should last for at least 6 hours.

Yeah, they should last that long, maybe twice as long if you have the rumble turned off. I know mine last at least 30 hours.

man my batterie's(play and charge) last 3-4week's with atleast 3hr's gaming a day(i pretty much only play racing game's but sometimes play oblivian and quite often play the fightnight rnd 3 demo)

we don't get the headset included over here:( Have to buy it seperatly.

THAT's why we get the forza 2 lce;) lol

Is it possible to get a controller with a wire? (just to avoid dealing with batteries)

Also, just for someone who's about to buy a 360...
What sort of free content could I expect with an xbox live account (what you would get when buying a live-enabled 360)?
Are there many free games to download?

As far as wired controllers, i'm pretty sure you can. I think the core system comes with wired controllers?

Just an example.

Yes. You could also buy the Play and Charge kit which lets you have the best of both worlds – wireless freedom and no AA batteries.

Well, for every XBL Arcade game, there's a trial, and there's Aegis Wings which is a free, full XBLA game. There's also a boatload of free demos for retail games as well.

You can download some free gamerpics and themes from mostly things like ad campaigns and movie campaigns (the King from Burger Kin, Axe Body Spray, Borat, that sort of stuff). For DLC, there's a few good free ones (Burnout Revenge cars, Crackdown stuff, etc), but most of the good stuff like TDU car packs and Gears of War maps cost money.

I have a brand new(unopened) Nyko charge and play kit I probably won't use so let me know if you're interested.

My headset has just broke. There's constant noise, so you have to yell for anyone to hear what you're saying. It annoys them too, which is understandable.

The warranty is at most a year right? I guess I'll have to buy a new one sometime...

My 360 is doing something weird lately, i'll push the button on the system itself to open the disc tray, but before it does that, it makes a noticable "whir" sound, and then pops the tray out like only 1cm, but if i push the button again to close it, and then push it again, it comes all the way out as if nothing happened

Any advice or guesses as to whats going on ?

Stupid comp lagged on me, so sorry for the double post

I have problems with my disc(360) tray 40% of the time where it wont close all the way. Slot loading looks more and more the better way to go with consoles.
But the video isn't really anything special.

Yeah...discs spin...its how they are read. :dunce:

What is he trying to prove apart from being able to rip out the disc tray and put it back in and the inability to read Blu-Rays?

What a useful way to use the Xbox360, rip the drive out and re insert it with a blu ray disc......

Sorry for not using edit button.

Is there any way to transfer Xbox Live memberships? I've only got the 1 month free trial, while my friend has a full year membership, but doesn't use it since I have his xbox.

Also, is there a way to transfer one gamesave over to the other. I started forza while signed into his thing, and on mine I don't have the same anymore.

No, for both counts. AFAIK.

Well after the E3 debut madness, I have to say that there really wasn't a winner at all. Nobody really showed off anything spectacular, besides what you normally would expect. It was pretty clear that Sony is focused more on 2008 as compared to Microsoft and Nintendo, both of which are both more concerned about whats left of 2007.

Speaking purely on the basis of games, Microsoft took the cake. But generally speaking, most of the games they were pushing were games that we already knew about. I think P-Mo's "Perfect Storm" of games was a bit too much of a description, but compared to Sony or Nintendo's holiday launch, I think they've got the win there. Still, P-Mo can't be cool all the time. I nearly shot myself after watching him play Rock Band...

Clearly, Microsoft is running on games this year, and I'd say they've got the free pass to do so. They've been around for almost two years by now, so let it run I suppose. Sure, they didn't dip down to Wii Fit levels of "WTF-dom," but that being said, only Halo 3 can challenge MGS4 when it comes to an overall level of importance to a console.

Nothing outstanding, nothing we really weren't expecting. Maybe Tokyo or GDC will have more to show off?

Is it possible to back up saved game data etc using the connection to a PC? I'm starting to worry about if my 360 dies I'm going to lose a lot of hard work.

I don't think it's possible, but because the 360 itself is causing nearly all the problems, then you will never need to return your HDD or memory unit where all your data is saved, with the console to the repair center.
