I don't think it'll necessarily "smoke" that time b/c it'll suffer from the issue of trying to put power down. @Famine noted the U9 is putting 750Hp through each 4 tires, the Jesko's trying put down between 650Hp & 800Hp through its 2 rears (depending on fuel type).

At Top Gear, it has a reported lap time of 1:10.9, around the same time as a SF90 (1:11.30) & a 488 Pista (1:12.70). At Gotland Ring, it reportedly has a time of 2:56.97 ahead of a GT3 RS 992 (2:58.88) & a Manthey 3RS (3:01.26). If you look at the 'Ring, the 488 Pista has 7:00.03, the Manthey has 6:59.42 & the 992 RS has Jorg's 6:49.328 & Sport Auto's 6:54.99.

It'll be a fast car no doubt, but outside of the One, aero & suspension setup have become the key contributors. ZR1 pushes 1,200Hp yet the RS' 518Hp & the Black's 720Hp seem more than enough for all 3 to hover around 6:48/49.

It is obvious that PD knows Koegnigsegg exist, the point is... what is Koegnigsegg asking to be in GT?? Most probably $$$$$$$$$$$$$, while BYD should be providing far less costly (or even free) licensing
 
I would Prefer Koenigsegg or Lotus, by far, instead of Yangwang or Xiaomi.
But the PD strategy is clear, China is a new (and potentially big) market to sell more PS5 or GT7 games... it's sad but it's certainly a good reason to see these brands join the game.
 
Both, the Xiaomi and the Yangwang are good additions to please the Chinese audience (and a great way to present the brands and their capabilities to international players). As far as i know and based on what i read EVs are huge in China, so that might mean even more (Chinese) EVs in future.

On the other hand big traditional companies like VW, Mercedes and Porsche are suffering and losing revenue due to their strong focus on (non competetive) EVs that no one buys in the western markets (i am exaggerating a little). It will be interesting to see how their strategies will change.

We have no way to know, and from PD's perspective it is a win to get those chinese cars.
 
I have read the Yangwang U9 needs 10 minutes for charging from 30% to 80%. It's fast for an electric car but it's longer than a petrol refuel.

I Would try a endurance 2 laps challenge, electric against thermic, on special stage road X.

I‘m pretty sure this is the case since they are rapidly expanding their dealership network across Europe as well. Having their halo car in Gran Turismo would certainly help them attract even more attention.

On what test track? Also if you think about that feat, the tyres had to be specially made for the extremely high speeds and would be so prohibitively expensive that the customer could not afford such...

You'd not likely find a price on that site, because they don't sell tyres on that site.

However it's a prototype tyre developed for high-speed driving with EVs. So probably $lots, and likely only supplied to manufacturers for testing purposes, not sold to customers at all at present.

As for the update itself not much to look forward to other than that Corsa VGT I want to know how it drives, weird that Corsa VGT got revealed later and also got released first while Xiaomi has two cars ready yet got pushed back and I doubt it's Xiaomi's fault, they're working at breakneck speed like any other leading tech/car companies in China.
Oh, and that Toyota BJ or FJ better have some beastly swap like Willis Jeep.

It's not exactly a more relatable BYD Seal Performance AWD but a goddamn U9 Xtreme is now China's Veyron I'm sure as hell want to take it for a spin, looks to be at least a tire wear monster.

It's really not hard to see my intent, I'm just surprised we're getting a BYD announcement so soon when on that comment I was ranting about them of giving these Chinese brands a call and they'll be getting no shortage of cars to put in game, I'm surprised they listened and especially it was THE car I'm posted video links on and I said that they couldn't catch up with these Chinese car makers' pace which is still true but to make an announcement a month later that the car is coming to GT7 is faster than I thought, probably it's a BYD effect lol.
"I was right about them adding the car into the game" part is just me getting ahead of myself due to sheer excitement as it was still in the morning and I'm also on a bit of a roller coaster emotionally, search the news and you'd know why.

The intent of the people leaving the poo responses, for which I mentioned several possible reasons rather than your decision that it was definitely about the Yangwang.

At least now I found out that more chances the yangwang will come out earlier then the Xioami, in the game hopefully these cars would be great on high speed nurburgring races!
 
Still couldn't wrap my head around the thought of having an actual Hypercar in the game that has more horsepower than SRT Tomahawk X and it's an EV.
China really is living in the future, and the future is now not 10 years from now like Dodge said with SRT Tomahawk X.
This thing makes that Corvette CX Concept look and feel tame in comparison and U9 Xtrreme is a production car already out there breaking records, what an insane flex coming from BYD.

EV is big in Thailand as well, BYD Atto 3 and Dolphin are everywhere here and not far behind we have brands like Changan, GAC AION SAIC MG, Geely group, Chery Group etc. keeping the competition and things hot and interesting here.
The latest hottest EV in Thailand at the moment is the Chery Group's Jaecoo 5 EV with estimated pre-orders reaching 10,000 cars and the price starting at just 549,000 THB or just over 16,000 USD.
It's a Range Rover Evoque lookalike EV with a price tag of an eco-car and a power of old sports car that's why it sells so well here.
 
This relationship of Gran Turismo and chinese manufacturers is really complicated topic. On one hand, there are GT's origins with JDM scene and often quite humble cars, but there is also the need to evolve, make the game more popular and stay economically relevant. So, from my take it is ok to add as many chinese super EVs as needed, if it allows Polyphony to do the traditional GT stuff as well. In a way it is just like web or tv ads.

But times are really changing, for example with GT5, they tried to grow the brand by adding WRC and NASCAR licences or GT Academy. And GT Academy illustrates this well - if you compare today's financial state of Nissan and companies like Xiaomi and BYD, that speaks for itself.

Ultimately, there is one big question. China has a history of copying (and then often surpassing) western or japanese products. And they are also rapidly growing in IT and videogames. So, how long it will take to make their own Gran Turismo so they don't need the original?

Don't they have Racing Master? Albeit that's on mobile and is more GRID-adjacent (right to having Codemasters involvement at one point).

I usually try to stay quiet about the cars added to GT7, recognising that GT7 caters to many different people, but I just can't imagine what a 2,977HP EV is supposed to do for anyone in the game. The Porsche Mission X is already a horrific nightmare to drive with "just" 1,341HP. It really seems like carmakers nowadays are so obsessed with whether they could that they never stopped to consider if they should.

Engineering Explained has a pretty damning video explaining why the U9 Xtreme with almost 3,000HP couldn't even beat the lap time of a 1,064HP Corvette.

The tl;dw is that the U9 couldn't even do a full lap of the Nordschleife at full power, with the driver even having to lift a little at Döttinger Höhe presumably just to get the car across the line. The Xtreme would drain a full charge at full power in just two minutes! According to EE's calculations, the U9 Xtreme's tyres wouldn't even be able to put down all of the motors' power until about 274km/h (~170mph).

Most modern cars just strike me as silly and stupid, and perhaps no car embodies that like the U9 Xtreme.

The only way I'd ever be interested in the car is if it can do this:

Jason Fenske was a more credible influencer when he didn't go out of his way to cater to petrolheads.
 
Problem: Nobody cares.

This hyper EV has the double-whammy problem of being both extremely rare and exclusive (nearly vaporware), but also completely undesirable. Imagine if the Mclaren F1 was electric - not only will you never see one in person but you also don’t want one which means it’s almost completely irrelevant.

I remember when people said that about the Bugatti Veyron.

Virtually the entire internet **** on it because it wasn't as clever as a McLaren F1 and was basically a fat, AWD tank with 1000hp just meant to go fast and couldn't handle like the F1 and would never win Le Mans like the F1 and at twice the (original) price was just for rich posers unlike the F1 which was only bought by smart wealthy car-loving guys like Elon Musk.
 
Ugh, I'd be considerably happier to see an MG4 Trophy than this ugly bug.

The U9 has hit 308 and looked to have more room yet. No Bugatti is touching that right now.
 
Love it or hate it, this car is creating a lot of discussion and that's exactly the sort of thing BYD wants. I don't think a Ferrari 355 would create as much discussion. China know a thing or two about propaganda and it's clearly rubbed a few people the wrong way. I think they're more than happy to play the role of "disruptor" in the automotive scene.
