You are Given $55,000....

Fully loaded minus the auto transmission.

Totals at $47,597

So that would come down from there a little. I'd find something to do to it with the leftover money. Wouldn't know what 'till I had the car though.

Went to the Morgan factory in Malvern last week, problem is I want one now. £30k gets you the basic 4/4 (110bhp 1.6 model), but it only weighs less than 900kg. They are not that fast, but they have loads of appeal!

I know Malvern!

And, actually, I've changed my mind. I'd get a mint 70s-80s 6-series.

If I was handed $55,000 for cars, I would buy a new, reasonable, economical, comfortable daily driver with an automatic for no more than $25,000. Then I would take the other $30,000 and completely restore the frame, body, and interior of my RX7, give it a Turbo II drivetrain, and replace as many mechanicals as I could afford with race-spec items. It would barely be street legal.

Apparently you've never watched any of numerous performance tests of the car? Any? Because if you had you'd know why you're wrong.

If I can only get one car then. I would get one of these. In a satin black. My dad had one it wasn't like this one but it was black. It was suppose to be my car when I turned 16 but my grandma sold it to someone when my dad stored it in her garage. %^&*!!! I hate to call my grandma a bitch but she is. Now I drive a civic..like a damn commoner. Any way this is the car that dominated trans am over 2500cc class in 1971.

With the position I'm in now if I were smart I'd put that money for a down payment on a house. But I'm a man and most men do stupid ^&*$ so I'd buy these. HELLL MUTHA$%^&* YEAHHHH!!

and

My boat would also have gps, sonar, down riggers, and a bunch of other fishing stuff. I'd get the boat n truck used obviously. They both tend to depreciate pretty quickly.

Yep, really. Going back two generations, there have been quite a few owners of the 2003-2004 Cobras that replaced the IRS with a live axle because it worked better for drag racing (as stated above).

Also...

Tell me why the live-axle 2011 GT500 handled better on the skidpad than the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport, which has an independent rear suspension? It came in less than 1 mph behind on the slalom.

For that matter, my 2004 Mach 1 with it's 'antiquated live axle' setup runs a 63.6 mph through the slalom (yes, I know, that's a 2003 model, no changes from 2003-2004), just a few ticks behind the 350Z (64.9 mph) and the Mazda RX-8 (64.6 mph)

You US guys like your cars cheap, so live axle it is. Don't moan about it with your prices.

A 2011 Ford Mustang in the Netherlands will set you back : €73571,- or $96000.

I wouldn't buy another car, I would turn my '71 into a restored drag car, and I would restore the '70 Super Sport to how it was when new. Not better than new, just new. For $55k I know I could get it done since we wouldn't be paying anyone to work on it. Only expenses ,aside from parts, would be machine work for the engine. All other assembly would be done by us.

Complain about prices? I paid $8,000 USD for my Mach 1. A brand new Mustang GT packing 412 hp will set us back ~$30K USD - no complaints here.

And I wasn't complaining about the live axle setup. A live axle works perfectly well in the current Mustang GT, Mustang Boss 302, and Shelby GT500.

I really enjoy reading everyones ideas! i still want to stick with my Austin Healy. though i have decided that if that were to fall through i may go with one of these....

However if it didnt have T-Tops i wouldnt buy it. no t-tops no car. and i really like the removable glass top on the vette too

Mazdaspeed MX5 + FM Big Enchilada
Volvo V70R

Something else for 30kish.

Now that I think about it, I might deviate from the Volvo and go Mazdaspeed6. Then, instead of a Miata, spend the remaining 35k on a lightly used Elise.

I have been thinking about the 930 choice and how a 996tt would be awfully tempting considering the easy power you can get from them. I have never really liked the look of the 996 that much but the turbo, gt2, and gt3 are definitely exceptions

If some guy walked up to you today, and said here have $55,000 tax free for the sole purpose of buying a new/used car of your choice. what would you buy? would you buy a $5,000 car and put 50K in upgrades?

I was thinking about this idea a lot and i think i would go through and buy something like this lovely little car

Im not sure which color i would choose but i could always repaint it. and yes i know that they are notorious for electrical problems but i just feel that i want a small tiny European 2 seat convertible. I want to be that professor guy with the patches on my elbows driving to class in my little convertible.

I would obviously buy one for daily driver that's had the electrical system maybe rewired or something and not just to keep in my garage under a sheet. i do like this one.....

How about all of you? what would you buy?

My dad actually got a Austin Healy, nice car, a Sebring Sprite for racing, he tours around Europe with friends to race with Healeys & Caterhams and MG Midgets.
Tracks like the Nürburgring 4h Lay-Out and Dijon etc.

on topic: I would buy a total wreck for 2.000 and build it up to a nice convertible to tour with.
Maybe a spitfire wreck.

The money would only speed up my current project, which includes swapping the fo'doh for a coo-pay.

Any left over money would go towards any debts I might have.
