It's a Nali cow from the original Unreal game, rendered high-res (not by me).

Actually, I thought that this was one of my more serine impressions... ;)
Serine? I think I'll stick to Japanese girls in very small dresses... ;) :D

I figured this could also be a chance for people to showcase (like others have already done ;) ) some of our own designed desktops. Here's one I did a long time back. Sorry I don't have it in a higher resolution...

You know what would be really cool ... a landscape that 'moved' as your desktop. Maybe something that panned slowly, or possibly had time-laps photography effect. It could be done with a high quality webcam and active desktop. But a 3d generated landscape would be so much cooler, and probably be less of a load on the computer.

Cool idea though ...

Well, I've done animated movies of landscapes like above (fly-bys, rotations, etc), but the average movie is something like 4 GB...so I don't think you want that playing on your desktop. :)

Well, with active desktop you could make it a Flash movie. That would make the size much smaller. The problem with Flash though, it's very processor intensive. Maybe there's a way to make it more hardware friendly ...

Not what you are talking about.... Mabe I could get one of my friends to program something to pan and move through a 3d mesh....

Not likely though

How about a animated gif that's 1024x768 in size...?

Yeah, that would be cute .... For my desktop it would have to be 3200 x 1200. Could you imagine the size of an animated give with that kind of dimentions?

Still frame walk thoughs wouldn't be too bad... an OpenGL active desktop would be better though.... :D

It wouldn't really have to be that size, unless you wanted the entire desktop to be animated. Take a static picture like the mountains with the lake scene and overlay, like a web page, an animated gif over the water that matches up.
Truthfully, it would be easier to take a high res movie image, freeze frame a portion into a Bitmap for the desktop foundation, then crop out specific portions so that you only have a specific area playing a significantly smaller movie file.

OS9.2 is what everyone serious uses - if only they wrote all the bloody software for OSX! :(

So you're a Mac guy eh? Are you running OSX? If so, what file system is it on? I've got 20 Macs at work that I 'Administrate' and I can't bring myself to install OS X on HFS formatted drives. It defeats the whole point of OS X. Yeah you get 'classic', but that is another thing about OS X ... getting away from the horrible old OS. HFS and 'Mac OS' are horrible, that's why they adopted BSD and wrote in their own visual backend. Personally I don't like Aqua all that much. Wasn't it supposed to be theme-able?

If you want your wallpaper to move, get Drempels. It is very cool at first, but gives you a headache after a few days.

I'm too lazy to find the site for you, just do a search in google.
