I watched a bit of Olympics coverage last night. NBC carried some rowing action followed by women's beach volleyball, then gymnastics.

Nothing like some good women's beach volleyball. :dopey:

What's your favorite event to watch? Anyone team or person in particular you've been rootin' for?

Poker! Seriously, at the winter Olypics, I watch bobsledding and Curling! In the summer games, I never really watch any. Women's beach Volleyball sounds good!

I love curling in the winter, its fun to watch. In the summer I like watching the baseball, diving and beach volley ball. Also in the winter hockey of course, snowboarding and skiing.

I like watching table tennis. The way they hit that little ball back-and-for so fast and hard!
Pitty BBC have messed the coverage up. :( They have interactive viewing and when you choose the table tennis screen you just get a view of the huge hall and some people milling about :grumpy: :( :irked:

Bob Costas.

I like to scream racial insults at the other teams. In reality, do people give a damn about the Olympics? I'd rather watch baseball.

I like watching the thing where the hold onto those chained rings, that really shows the muscles these women/men have. 👍

Hockey. Well, proper hockey. Fastest team ball-game on Earth..

Hockey. Well, proper hockey, the one played on ice.

:p Can't we just agree there's no "proper" hockey, they're both as good a game?

Don't really have a favourite sport in paticular, but I'm always entertained watching a good swimming event, the bike races are good viewing, baseball is great when your teams are winning everything atm (go Canada!), the foot races are very exciting, and of course, women's volleyball, now that they're all in bikinis :D.

Seriously though, it is a great sport to watch, but it's a shame the CBC botched the coverage of the Canada - USA match yesterday. It was a 1-1 tie, very close and intense match, and the bastards went to the news! This despite the fact that not only was the last set less than 15 minutes long, but the CBC already has a 24 hour news station! Shame that Canada lost though, they would have been guaranteed a spot in the semis.

I haven't watched much of the Olympics in a few years now, but I try to catch some of the downhill skiing and ski jumping. I don't know a thing about it, nor have I ever skied before, but it's amazing to see them do what they do. As for the Summer Olympics, it's the traditional stuff like the decathlon or the running that interests me....Now I'm noticing my very-auto-racing-like interests in certain Olympic events.

However, I can't stand some of the coverage/braodcasting of the events. It's too USA-centered, so if the USA loses, or doesn't stand a chance, "Who cares?" seems to be the attitude of the taped events. The advertising about the "global family" and "coming together of the Olympic spirit" to sell products, is downright obnoxious. For crying out loud, the phrase "Olympic Games" is trademarked for royalties!

Curling, badminton, bobsled, skeleton, ski-jumping, handball, basketball, baseball. And I watch some of the swimming events, but mainly to see if Michael Phelps drowns or something. Why is sailing an olympic event? And why is equestrian?

I hate the ****ing tape delay with NBC. Unless I refuse to watch any other sports media, I know the results to every olympic event I want to watch.

Why can't NBC televise events live?

Summer Events:

Favourites: Boxing, Basketball, Baseball, Badminton and Table Tennis (shame Table Tennis didn't start with a 'B' too).

Dislikes: Horsey-Crap, Sailing, Football/Soccer (the teams generally don't play well) and Archery.

Well, ice hockey is a derivative of hockey. So hockey is hockey, and ice hockey is what you all call hockey.

We say:
Hockey
Ice hockey
Roller hockey

Football
American Football

Anyway, ice hockey isn't a ball game  So hockey is still the fastest team ball game on Earth. Don't talk to me about Jai alai/pelota vasca.

Synchronised diving is my new hero - the most pointless "sport" ever invented, yet compelling somehow.

Didn't the American Basketball team get beaten? who was it by again... :sly:

If there was ever a team of really talented people that just don't give a damn, it's this team. It's pathetic really - the fans want to see some good basketball and these guys can't even score 80 points a game. And we're talking the best basketball players on Earth. US Olympic basketball sucks because unlike every other event, these guys haven't been training their whole lives for it - it means **** to them. Factually it means **** to everyone but the participants, their families, and their coaches, but whatever.

lol , I watched it too last night , fascinating stuff

I like watching the gymnastics ( Romania stuffed the USA earlier :D )
and the track and field events. 👍

I like the gymnastics...there's more room for error in them, and it's frankly hilarious when someone screws up.

I just about died laughing several nights ago when this Ukraine woman was doing the high and low bars...she went from the high to the low, and was supposed to go right back up to high, but she kinda didn't, and slammed her feet on the ground because the low bar is, well low. Also when they do the floor gymnastics and go out of bounds.
The Japanese just killed everyone last night at the stuff. Very interesting to watch.

I was also watching the swimming stuff...it's ok, never a big fan of swimming(because I suck at it).

Actually, rowing, athletics and beach volleyball. (including men's beach volleyball)

I'd rather watch the Olympics. Baseball is painfully boring – I will never watch a baseball game (at a stadium or on TV) out of my own free will ever. Boring, boring, boring.

So far I've been watching pretty much everything. The U.S. has been somewhat disappointing – the obvious basketball issues, the woman's gymnastic team has had at least one dent on almost every performance (and poor Courtney McCool... she's performed so well in the past, and she just keeps sprouting new problems at the Olympics), and the stupidly huge hype that followed Phelps hasn't been lived up to. I'm not saying he's doing badly or anything (far from it), but with all the pre-Olympic hype, it sets the stage for disappointment.

And Katie Couric and Bob Costas need to shut their pieholes once in a while (everybody in agreeance?). Hey look, Americans are stupid – Let's point out every obvious thing on the face of this Earth to them! Dumbnuts.

Synchronized swimming's amazing, as is the Pommel Horse (how the heck do they manage to even remember their moves, even less execute them so well?).

I also cannot stand baseball. I like the track events and hope that they actually do full coverage. I can't understand why they can't show the entirety of a 14min 5000m when they do two hours of nascar with an additional hour or so of pre and post race coverage. I'm just glad they are showing the marathon live. Cycling and women's volleyball have both been good, but hey who can turn down ping pong, uhh I mean table tennis.

Judo, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Archery, Shooting (25m Rapid-fire Small Pistol, 10m Moving Target Rifle, Double Trap & Skeet), Triathlon, Athletics (Shot Put), Badminton and Tennis. It's too bad I wont get to see most of these events. But, watching womens swimming events in HDTV wasn't too bad...

I like when Bob Costas comments on the people's performances and says stuff like "That was very slow" or "They should've stuck the landing". Duh!! Not like Mr. Costas can do any better himself.

Baseball is boring. We went to a Cards game a month or more ago, we had these free tickets but they were in the nose bleed section, so not only was it nerve racking(having to stand up and look all the way down, I hate it), it was boring too. Watching at home is better, but still boring most of the time. The olympics are cool because there's a bit of everything - competition, technique, and best of all, mistakes. It's, well, cool.

Swimming, rowing, gymnastics, track and field (heats are boring though), soccer and boxing are all 👍

Weightlifting is just scarey. Especially the 45kg women who can clean and jerk 95kgs :scared:

Oh, and of course, womens beach volley ball :D.

I saw the men's 4x200m relay and I thought it was amazing. Another gold for Team USA.

Bleh...we're horrible at basketball. We can't make our freethrows or shoot from the perimeter. We only won today because of pure luck and Greece didn't have their star pointguard.
