719 BHP, racing soft tyres and downforce maxed out. No other suspension or engine changes. I had great fun doing this lap, thought id post it up.

I thought it was a nice clean lap. Good job man. No reason to limit yourself though, what can the car get you if you fully tweak the setup to your liking?

Just for giggles I bought a brand-new Zonda R, went straight to the track (do not pass GT Auto), no mods or tuning tweaks whatsoever, and the car did a conservative 6'19, all aids turned off (no ABS/TC/SRF). The real car does a 6'47, mind you. On Sports Mediums, ABS/TC/SRF still off, still haven't touched the tuning, 6'40 even with mistakes. Finally, with Sports Hards, another conservative lap at 6'53, which is probably more like what a good GT5 player and not the Pagani test driver might be able to do for real. Except now the car is sliding all over the place like the track is soaking wet, even at low speeds (45-60mph)... no way that's accurate.

Obviously the physics still have a long way to go and it's not merely the tires. It is after all just a game, one that gives us another upgrade part to have to buy by only equipping race(ish) cars with RH tires.

Whats with all the hate for racing soft tyres then lol? The aim of the game on this lap was to go as fast as possible but I will do it again on RH and see how it goes.

I've seen some much better setups for this car on RS ( they are flat out in alot of places where I have to lift and they get 230 mph down the back straight aswell ) but what that would work out to in terms of time im not sure....possibly 4 - 8 seconds.

718 BHP, downforce maxed out, racing hard tyres. I've never set a timed lap on hard tyres but they seemed ok in terms of grip. Engine and suspension settings are standard but if anyone knows a good tune for the ring, please let me know.

And for people who say its unrealistic, yes it is - because its a game. 👍

Nice lap and great driving.
Btw, the time to beat for stock zonda r is 5:52 by mike_gt3

Mikes 5:52 is on racing soft ;)! I posted a 5:49 yesterday on RS tyres but I was shunned by most people for using them lol...They are way more fun though, thats for sure.

You are right.
Btw, is it with or without srf? Very impressive lap considering how fast a benchmark mike_gt3 is. Have not tried but I'll probably take 7 minutes even with srf.

Nice job.

And it's pretty hilarious to read about "this is like arcade" and "that is more realistic" when it's obvious that the faster a car is, the further away from reality it is in the game... GT5 is a great advance but it's still nowhere near realistic enough to get all elitist about it, probably never will be. Might as well have at it and go for speed if that's your thing. A good driver is still a good driver.

I've been around the 'Ring as a passenger in the Zakspeed Viper which only had Michelin Pilot Sport tires on, and that thing felt like it had ridiculous grip, you really noticed it on bumpy sections (like the tires were saying "screw you, track, you can't shake me loose"). That's one sensation GT5 definitely does not convey, unless you put Racing Soft tires on.

You ask me, the biggest physics problems in the game are the aero (lack of drag), and the gravity feels wrong (it's too linear when it should be exponential), which messes up everything from the suspension response to the feeling of grip from the tires. Braking and acceleration are probably exaggerated/oversimplified too.

Passenger in a car

Talks about tire grip

Yeah well I'm also a Bertil Roos road racing graduate. With seven F2000 races beyond that. And countless karting races/sessions. But sure, you're right, being a passenger means you can't talk about tire grip.

They are unrealistic and make game feel like a arcade game.

Oh and this game is just dripping with realism at every turn lol.

Anyway OP nice time and skills. Haven't played the "real driving sim" in a while but seeing this post almost makes me want to dust it off for a quick spin...

Aim of the game is not to be as fast as possible? This is a driving enthusiast's game, and if all you care about is numbers you're missing the point:dunce:

Absolutely correct, when you get a lot of experience on a track you can feel the grip and quite often identify what is causing it. I've heard that downforce feels very different from tyres and suspension (pretty sure it was in an episode of Top Gear), and I think if one of those guys can spot it while driving someone with proper experience could feel it as a passenger.

I don't believe anyone that did a sub 6 min lap in a stock Zonda R on RS tires without using all of the driving aids.

What he said was "the aim of the game on this lap was to go as fast as possible".

Sorry but it is a racing game, that's why nearly all the events are races or time trials, on circuits. Driving enthusiasts, certainly, but racing primarily.

Wow :scared:

I didnt wanted to post in this thread, but just to add the correct informations:

I did 5:52 (before spec 2.0) on racing soft, the car was stock ,oil changed and i had clue about tuning at that time, i was doing everything in reverse, i thought adding more diff power on accel would help stability... :scared:

Only aid used was ABS1

The car do look more planted in his video than mine from 1 year ago before spec 2, almost every car felt better after spec 2.

Id need to test again to see, his lap time look great, i see some area where it can be improved but its a great pace, no doubt about it.

:)

Hey guys, lay off MOTORTREND, I haven't been here on GTP long but I've noticed that he's made many helpful threads (such as GT5 exhaust thread) and seems to have a fair bit of intelligence, it's a racing game yes, but it's also a simulator, which is meant for you to race in a realistic way as compared to outright speed like you'd find in an arcade oriented game..

And who are you, his mom? lol.

On topic. In my opinion, it is primarily a racing game but certainly can be seen as a driving game if thats the way you chose to play it. I guess it just depends on each person and how he/she views the game and choses how to play it. Nice lap OP, well done. Nothing wrong with using RS tires if that what you want to do.
