Forza Horizon 5 Season Change: Donut You Want Me Baby?

Forza Horizon 5’s Series 22 rumbles into its third week this week, bringing a new set of events, challenges, and rewards as the action continues to focus on upgrading your cars.

This month’s playlist is all about tuning this month, going by the name of “Upgrade Heroes”. Facilitating that is the new Horizon Test Track, a new multi-route, multi-surface location at the main Festival site which allows for on-the-fly car upgrades.

We last saw this in a limited fashion back in Series 14, along with the first batch of Donut Media content and the YouTubers return to FH5 this Series too.

There’s a new Horizon Story based on one of the channel’s biggest hits, the Hi-Low series. This showed the presenters modifying two versions of the same car, one with expensive parts and the other with cheap ones — and you’ll be doing something similar in the Story.

Not only that, you’ll be able to collect four new cars through the Story, with the Series adding 15 new cars — including the Barbie Movie cars, which are free gifts to all players, and the paid DLC Racing Car Pack. Which isn’t.

Collecting the five regular Series reward cars — one in each Season and a fifth as a Series prize — brings the usual Evolving World Accolade, while there’s also Accolades and Badge for the Horizon Story and Test Track feature.

Table of Contents

Series 22: Upgrade Heroes

Unusually the new-to-game car is actually in the higher-tier slot this Series, but with the largest amount of points ever available in a Series it’s not a massive challenge to get that far.

Firstly you’ll need to clip through 80 points (which was possible in the first, Summer season) to win the Pagani Huayra BC.

This highly exclusive version of the Huayra comes with more power and less weight, coming courtesy of a new form of carbon fiber, making an already very fast car even faster. Appropriately, it’s named for Pagani’s first ever customer, Benny Caiola.

Hit the 160-point marker and you’ll earn that new car, Chris Forsberg’s 2023 Formula Drift Nissan Z.

This joins its older, 370Z-based sibling in the Formula Drift stable, sporting the new Z body. However there’s GT-R power underneath, as Forsberg goes back to his ol’ reliable VR38DETT engine rather than the Z’s new three-liter unit.

Series 22 Winter/Dry Season Rewards

Scoring 20 points this season will see you earn the third new car this Series, with the GMC Typhoon returning from Forza titles of old.

Just like its sibling Syclone, this unexpected performance machine twinned the SUV body with big power long before it was a thing every manufacturer did — by about 20 years. The recipe is similar, with a turbocharged V6 and lowered suspension, but this time on a Jimmy rather than a Sonoma pickup.

40 points will score you a restomod icon, in the shape of the Porsche 911 DLS.

While you wouldn’t know to look at it — indeed that’s the point — it’s a heavily reworked 964-generation 911, sporting modern underpinnings honed by Williams, a full carbon-fiber body and a four-liter, 500hp version of the classic flat-six.

The Winter Season will run through to 1430UTC on Thursday July 13, while Series 22 will continue on for another week until the same time on Thursday July 20.

Series 22 Winter Playlist: Forzathon Events

A classic Australian performance car is the star of this week’s Forzathon Weekly. Pick up — from the Forzathon Shop if necessary, although it’s also available in the Autoshow — the Holden Torana A9X to get Holden Out for a Hero started.

You’ll need to earn an Ultimate Burnout Skill for starters, which is most easily done by throwing some donuts. After that, head out and win a Road Race in the Torana.

The final challenge is a little more complex. You’ll need to beat any Rivals ghost while using the car. Probably the best bet here is to tune it up to the top of any class you like (use the Test Track to check off some of the spending requirements for Accolades), then pick any event in Rivals under the Online tab of the pause menu.

Complete that and you’ll earn five Playlist points and 80 Forzathon Points — with the FP doubled if you own the Casa Solariega player house.

Weekly Challenge: Holden Out for a Hero

  • Car: Holden Torana A9X ’77
    • Chapter 1: Own and drive the Torana A9X
    • Chapter 2: Earn an Ultimate Burnout skill in the Torana A9X
    • Chapter 3: Win a Road Race in the Torana A9X
    • Chapter 4: Beat any Rivals ghost in the Torana A9X
  • Reward: 5 points, 80FP

The seven Daily challenges land at their usual one-a-day rate, coming in order at 1430UTC each day during the season. Each allows you a full seven days to complete, even if that time rolls over into the next season.

You’ll be starting the week off with The Experiment. Just head into the Test Track mode and spend 20,000cr on upgrades (for the Torana above would be ideal) to earn the point.

It’s a Flip Reverse next, which requires you to earn an Ultimate J Turn skill. For best results find an open piece of road (or runway) and reverse as fast as you can before swinging the car round 180 degrees and driving off forwards.

The weekend starts with Draft & Pass, which sends you to Donut Media. You’ll need to start the Low Team Story (if you’ve already started the Hi Team Story you’ll need to finish that first) and then earn a Slingshot Skill — for slipstreaming a car then passing it — during the “Every Car at Horizon Ranked” story chapter.

You’ll be In It To Win It next, by winning any Road Race event in any Porsche 911.

Get Caught on Camera after that, earning one star (or more) at the Calle Principal Speed Trap in east Guanajuato. This only requires a speed of 45mph, so shouldn’t be tricky.

It’s all about that New Car Smell next, as you’ll need to buy any car from the Autoshow.

Wrap the week up by saving a new photo pre-set in photomode, where you’ll prove I’m Pretty Set On It.

Series 22 Winter Playlist: Season Events

With a mild bump in the multiplayer events and Challenges this week, the solo offering is trimmed to seven events. That consists of three PR Stunts, two Seasonals, and two Event Labs.

The PR Stunts change their requirements again this week, but it’s effectively a case of maximum attack. You’ll need an X Class (999PI) car for the three events: a Danger Sign, a Speed Trap, and a Speed Zone. Each awards the usual Super Wheelspin.

Unsurprisingly, the targets are all well beyond three stars, but not too far out of reach. You’ll need to hit 175mph at the Callejon Speed Trap in Guanajuato (approaching from the west is easiest) and 180mph at the Carretera Speed Zone east of the city. The 235m jump at La Cruz isn’t particularly tricky, but the ramp can glitch and give you jumps of under a meter sometimes…

The two Seasonal Championships are three-race events against Highly Skilled AI. You’ll start each race in eighth place, giving you a pack to battle through, and topping the points table at the end gives you five points and a bonus prize.

For this week they’re both relatively low-paced Road Racing events. You’ll need a C Class (501-600PI) “Reasonably Priced Car” — a custom hopper containing cars costing 25,000cr or less from the Autoshow — for Let’s Be Reasonable, which awards a Nissan Skyline GTS-R ’87. Muscle Memory is for B Class (601-700PI) Classic Muscle cars, and gives a BMW M3 ’08.

EventLab brings you a pair of custom courses at two different locations, each with a familiar feel. There’s three points each time for completing the requisite number of laps, along with a bonus Donut Media prize.

Racers in the Mist takes you to the Mangrove Scramble mixed-surface course, with much of the first half based at the original track. However it soon veers off into a figure-8 track; just complete the laps to earn a Donut Media Pop-Up Headlights horn.

There’s a similar theme to Circuito de Mulege, based around the Arch of Mulege circuit. Again, it isn’t long before the new route comes into play as you head south across the river on a double figure-8 loop. Reach the end and you’ll acquire a Donut Media Leaf Cap.

EventLab: Circuito de Mulege

  • Car: S1 Class
  • Location: Mulege
  • Challenge: Finish the race
  • Reward: 3 points, Donut Media Leaf Cap

EventLab: Racers in the Mist

  • Location: Pantano de la Selva
  • Challenge: Finish the race
  • Reward: 3 points, Donut Media Pop-Up Headlights horn

Danger Sign: La Cruz

  • Location: Guanajuato
  • Challenge: 235m
  • Reward: 2 points, Super Wheelspin

Speed Trap: Callejon

  • Car: X Class
  • Location: Guanajuato
  • Challenge: 175mph
  • Reward: 2 points, Super Wheelspin

Speed Zone: Carretera

  • Car: X Class
  • Location: Hotel Mirador
  • Challenge: 180mph
  • Reward: 2 points, Super Wheelspin

Seasonal Championship: Let’s Be Reasonable

  • Car: C Class, Reasonably Priced Cars
  • Location: Horizon Festival
  • Challenge: Win the Championship
  • Reward: 5 points, Nissan Skyline GTS-R ’87

Seasonal Championship: Muscle Memory

  • Car: B Class, Classic Muscle
  • Location: Horizon Oval
  • Challenge: Win the Championship
  • Reward: 5 points, BMW M3 ’08

There’s two events available for multiplayer racing this week. You’ll need an Xbox Live subscription in order to access them on console — or play for free on PC.

Seasonal Playground Games makes a return, with things that were Acceptable in the 80s. You’ll need any S1 Class (801-900PI) car from the 1980s to take part in a series of team games.

This might be Flag Rush, Infected/Survival, or King, but whatever the game you only need to play through the final round (if you’re lucky you might join an event ahead of the third round!) to earn the rewards of three points and an “I’m The Best At Games” Forza Link. You don’t even need to win.

Additionally there’s the permanent fixture that is The Trial. That’s a best-of-three championship that pits a team of up to six humans against six “Unbeatable” difficulty AI Drivatars.

Players on each team score 100 points for every opponent they beat (meaning up to 600pt), but nothing for beating their own team-mates, with a 50pt bonus to first place as a tie-breaker. That means the humans must work together, hindering the AI and helping each other rather than the other way about – but occupying any three of the first four places will be enough to win.

It’s a Street Racing Series event this week, which will see NPC traffic interfering with events (should any load in, that is). You’ll need a B Class (601-700PI) Datsun 510 to take part, so the human driving should be relatively controlled compared to weeks with high-power machinery, and a win inside two races isn’t tricky. All players will earn ten points and an Audi RS6 ’15 for the win.

Seasonal Playground Games: Acceptable in the 80s

  • Car: S1 Class, 1980s
  • Location: Baja Circuit
  • Challenge: Win the Championship
  • Reward: 3 points, “I’m The Best At Games” Forza Link

The Trial: Tune it Up

  • Car: B Class, Datsun 510
  • Location: Rio de la Selva
  • Challenge: Win the Championship
  • Reward: 10 points, Audi RS6 ’15

Series 22 Winter Playlist: Challenges

It’s a three-Challenge week, with Treasure Hunt returning alongside the regular Photo Challenge, but you’ll need access to online multiplayer to compete in the third event.

That’s Horizon Open, which has a relatively simple completion task of earning three Ultimate Drift or Ultimate E-Drift Skills in Horizon Open Drifting. You can access this directly through the playlist menu, or by heading into the Horizon Open section of the pause menu.

The skills pop for performing a drift — either by sliding into one or pulling the handbrake to start it — which you’ll need to do anyway in this drift event. If you’re not familiar with FH5’s Skills progression, you’ll earn a drift/e-drift skill for a little one, and the longer they go on the skill will advance to “Great”, “Awesome”, and finally “Ultimate”.

Just do three big, long drifts in any number of events (but really you should do it in one; using a Formula Drift car makes it really easy) to earn two points and a Honda NSX-R ’05.

For the Photo Challenge, #ItsTurboTime!, you’ll need to head to the Horizon Rush Outpost. Once there, photograph a 1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 to earn two points and a “Mo Powa Baby” Forza Link greeting.

Finally there’s the Treasure Hunt, An Old Challenger Approaches. As you can probably guess quite quickly from the image and the clue, “A class act for sure, win a drag race for treasure galore”, you’ll need to grab a classic, 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, tune it up to A Class (701-800PI), and win a drag race with it — at either the Aerodrome, Festival, or Teotihuacan.

Once completed you’ll receive the Treasure Hint, which is a red zone on your map showing you roughly where to find the chest. This week that’s near Bahia de Plano, near a steading in a hollow west of the Ruta Norte Street Racing start point and south of the Punto Norte Drift Zone icon. Just smash it to earn three points and 100FP.

Horizon Open: This Ain’t My First Rodeo

  • Cars: Any
  • Location: Horizon Open Drifting

  • Location: Horizon Rush Outpost
  • Challenge: Photograph the Porsche 911 Turbo ’82 at the Horizon Rush Outpost

  • Location: Any Drag Strip; Bahia de Plano
  • Challenge: Win a Drag Race in a Dodge Challenger R/T ’70; find and smash the Treasure Chest
  • Reward: 3 points, 100FP

Series 22 Winter Playlist: Monthly Events

All four of the month-long Monthly Events remain in place for a third week, with a huge haul of points between them.

That includes two sets of challenges for the Donut Media Hi Low Story — one for “Hi Team” and one for “Low Team” — which each award 12 points.

To earn the points you’ll need pick up stars in each branch of the Story (the initial chapter, where you select a team, does not count), earning the maximum three in each of the six chapters. Each time you earn a sixth star in each set, you’ll gain one point in each of the four seasons — up to a maximum of three.

You’ve also got two regular Forza Monthly challenges for the Series, and these each awarding one point to each Season in a similar fashion to total four apiece.

They keep the regular format, requiring you to set clean times at the courses indicated using the provided cars. Fast times aren’t necessary, just clean ones, so keep your car away from solid objects.

For Copper Canyon Sprint you’ll be racing a point-to-point course in the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, making it tricky as you can’t endlessly lap to get it right. There’s also a tempting car in the Los Jardines Circuit event, with the Lotus Emira — part of the $4.99 Racing Car Pack — there to tease you into spending cash.

Horizon Story: Donut Media Hi Team

  • Cars: Nissan Donut Media 350Z Hi (provided)

  • Location: Los Jardines
  • Challenge: Post a Clean Lap
  • Reward: 4 points (1 added to each season)

Series 22 Winter Bonus DLC Events

Each of the two expansion packs offers seven further bonus points, through a two-point PR Stunt and a five-point Seasonal Championship. These are not required for 100% completion, but act as a safety net in case other events are too tricky or not your thing.

Both PR Stunts require an A-Class (701-800PI) Retro Hot Hatch, so in theory you could use one car for both. However the Rally Adventure Speed Trap, Duna Escarpada, is both off-road and in sticky sand so you’ll need some ground clearance for the 100mph target. There’s no such issue for the Hot Wheels Speed Zone at The Ribbon, with its 150mph goal that just requires straight line speed. Each awards a Super Wheelspin.

A Class (701-800PI) cars also feature in the Seasonal Championships, which are again three-race championships against Highly Skilled AI. In Hot Wheels that’s The Magic Number, requiring any generation of BMW M3 and awarding a Hot Wheels Cap. For Rally Adventure’s Tune Buggy you’ll need an Unlimited Buggies car, and you’ll receive a Raptor Rawr Horn.

Hot Wheels Speed Zone: The Ribbon

  • Car: A Class, Retro Hot Hatch
  • Location: Hot Wheels Giant’s Canyon
  • Challenge: 150mph
  • Reward: 2 points, Super Wheelspin

Hot Wheels Seasonal Championship: The Magic Number

  • Car: A Class, BMW M3
  • Location: Hot Wheels Giant’s Canyon
  • Challenge: Win the Championship
  • Reward: 5 points, Hot Wheels Cap

Rally Adventure Speed Trap: Duna Escarpada

  • Car: A Class, Retro Hot Hatch
  • Location: Sierra Nueva Valle de Foraneos
  • Challenge: 100mph
  • Reward: 2 points, Super Wheelspin

Rally Adventure Seasonal Championship: Tune Buggy

  • Car: A Class, Unlimited Buggies
  • Location: Sierra Nueva Valle de Pozas
  • Challenge: Win the Championship
  • Reward: 5 points, Raptor Rawr Horn

Series 22 Winter Forzathon Shop

With all the X Class PR Stunts this week it’s an appropriate time for everyone’s favorite car to tune up there to appear in the Forzathon Shop.

That is, of course, the Koenigsegg Jesko, which is the Swedish hypercar brand’s fastest car yet — at least on paper. Packing 1600hp when fueled with the E85 mix, the Jesko can, in principle, cruise right through 300mph. It’s yours for 700FP, which is favorable compared to the 2.8m credit Autoshow price.

Alternatively you can score the Holden Torana A9X needed for this week’s Forzathon Weekly. A homologation special for V8 supercars, the Torana is just as much a legend as its driver Peter Brock. At 200FP it might seem cheap, but it’s also only 130,000cr in the Autoshow.

Other store items this week include the Karaoke Emote and the Donut Media Yellow Jumper at 75FP each. The Wheelspin (60FP) and a Super Wheelspin (150FP) occupy their regular spots.
