Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial: Reverse Engineering

This week’s new Online Time Trial keeps things thoroughly Japanese. Gran Turismo 7 pairs the Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R ’97 with the Yamagiwa Reverse layout at Kyoto Driving Park on Sports Hard tires.

The FTO joined the game in the Spec III update (Update 1.65), which arrived back in December. Our own driving impressions found it to be a lovely little front-wheel-drive car, with predictable handling and a nicely detailed cabin, all the way down to its signature blue seats. It’s a nostalgia trip back to Gran Turismo 1, and that’s very much part of its appeal.

Kyoto Driving Park’s Yamagiwa Reverse layout is the other half of the equation, and it’s an awkward one, with a run of tight, technical corners that leave little room for mistakes. It should make for a demanding lap in a car built more for composure than outright pace.

There’s also a week left on last week’s event, which sends the McLaren 650S Gr.4 back to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Racing Hard tires with specified settings. That one closes July 23.

Mercedes-AMG Virtual Championship: Final Days to Qualify

The Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Virtual Championship’s qualifying window is nearly closed. The way into the GT7 field is still a single hot lap in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 ’20 at Spa-Francorchamps on Racing Soft tires, and that window shuts July 20.

The quickest qualifiers go straight to Division One; everyone else who sets a valid lap goes into a raffle for Division Two. Entry is open to anyone aged 16 or over, and registering means joining the championship’s Discord too. We covered last year’s season, and the full rules and entry link are here.

  • Track: Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
  • Car: Mercedes-AMG GT3 ’20
  • Tires: Racing Soft
  • Qualifying open until: July 20

Accessing Online Time Trials

If you’ve not jumped into one of these before, you’ll first need to unlock Sport Mode by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe. There’s no need for a PlayStation Plus subscription to take part. See our full unlock guide here.

Once an event closes, prizes go out based on how close you got to the fastest lap: gold for anyone within 3% of the top time (2,000,000cr), silver within 5% (1,000,000cr), and bronze within 10% (250,000cr).

New events arrive every Thursday, and each runs for two weeks with the oldest dropping off as a fresh one appears. The next new Online Time Trial lands July 23.
