Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.21 Now Available, Brings Minor Bug Fixes

The latest update to Gran Turismo 7 has arrived on schedule and, as expected, it’s a compact affair that addresses some minor issues affecting the title.

It comes in at just under 200MB on PlayStation 4 and just over 300MB on PlayStation 5, which is naturally not large enough to bring any particular new content. That was unlikely in any case, coming just a week after the 1.20 content update which added three new cars and three new circuit layouts and out of step with the usual month’s-end timing.

The list of patch notes for 1.21 is pretty brief as you’d expect, consisting of just two items — only one of which previously appeared on the “known issues” log.

That was the excessive tire wear affecting the “Bathurst Gr.3 Battle” mission in the set known as “The Sun Also Rises” (named after a book by Ernest Hemingway). This arose due to the changes in settings in v1.20 and frustrated a lot of players — but some found it to be an interesting tire preservation mission and more fun as a result. Nonetheless, this has now been corrected to slow tire wear down in the mission.

A second issue was not previously flagged and may be the cause of the relatively rapid update turnaround. It was possible to break game progression by using the next-lap fast-forward feature when reviewing a licence demonstration video; this has now also been fixed.

There’s still a small number of known issues, primarily centered on multiplayer lobby and split-screen, which Polyphony Digital will be working on for future updates. It’s also likely that some unannounced changes have also come in this update, which the GTPlanet community will dig out in due course!
