iRacing 2020 Season 2 Build Now Available: Adds Hell and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4

Following up on the first build of 2020, the iRacing team has released the Season 2 build to all subscribers. Headlining the new season are two new additions: the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 MR, and the Norwegian rallycross circuit Lankebanen.

Originally announced last September, the GT4-class racer makes its iRacing debut. With 425hp going to the rear wheels, the 718 CS will make short work of virtually any racing venue. While the Porsche will compete with itself for the time being, it won’t be long until it battles another from its class, the BMW M4 GT4.

The 718 Cayman is also available for AI races, further expanding that feature. Moreover, it will also make use of the new damage model, including the scrape system — talk about bang for your buck.

Season 2 brings plenty to the table to keep fans of the PC sim more than a little occupied, so we’ll focus on a few key points.

New and Updated Tracks

First up, as previously mentioned, Lankebanen makes its debut in the PC sim courtesy of this update as well. Opened in 1987, it became the first asphalt track in Norway. Commonly referred to as Hell, named after the nearby village, it is a staple in the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

If you’re a fan of the circuit, the iRacing team is only getting started with the Norwegian venue. Additional configurations will be added to the game in the “near future”.

That’s not all, as the Indy Oval layout makes way for Homestead Miami Speedway at no additional cost. If that weren’t enough already, the team has completely re-modeled Texas Motor Speedway from the ground up. All members that have purchased the Texan circuit prior to this update will receive the updated version for free.

New Features

The update introduces the aforementioned scrape system into the new damage model. As the name suggests, it simulates wear and damage caused by scraping materials. It will take into account the types of materials as well as paint or other coverings.

As a whole, the new damage model is now available on the following vehicles:

  • Aston Martin DBR9 GT1
  • Audi RS 3 LMS
  • Chevrolet Corvette C6.R GT1
  • Ford GT
  • NASCAR K&N Pro Chevrolet Impala
  • Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR

AI racing functionality remains a goal for the iRacing Motorsports Simulation team. Joining alongside the 718 Cayman, the team has also enabled the Audi RS3 LMS and Dallara F3 for the feature. The good news continues for those making the most of the feature with the following tracks also now welcoming competition against the AI:

  • Brands Hatch Circuit – Grand Prix
  • Daytona International Speedway – 2007 – Road Course
  • Daytona International Speedway – Road Course
  • Summit Point Raceway – Summit Point Raceway

The full list of changes and everything new for the Season 2 build is exhaustive, and you can read it in the comments thread below.
