Lancia 037 Rally Car Coming to Gran Turismo, According to UK Dealer (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The original Instagram post by Girardo & Co has been deleted.

Polyphony Digital just added cars to Gran Turismo Sport last week. There’s a certain futuristic Audi concept en route for next week, too. But it looks like another marque could be returning to the GT fold, at least according to a high-end automotive dealer.

The hint comes care of Girardo & Co in the UK. The London-based showroom has a variety of classic motorsport metal — seriously, check out the inventory — including a works Lancia 037. In a recent Instagram post, Girardo & Co suggested the car would be “coming to a PlayStation near you soon,” while also hash-tagging Gran Turismo. See for yourself:

This wouldn’t be the first time social media has outed a car for the game before its official reveal. We first heard of the Lexus RC F Super GT car back in 2016, and it arrived as part of the March update. In early 2017, Carter Jung teased the Isle of Man record-breaking Subaru.

The 037 is a bit of a unicorn. Outside of a handful of rally titles (as recently as this year’s Gravel) it has only really appeared in the Forza franchise and PS2 hidden gem Enthusia. It also marks an important milestone for not only Lancia, but the sport of rallying as a whole. The 037 took the fight to the dominant Audis of the 1983 WRC season, emerging victorious as the last rear-drive car to win the title. The story of Lancia’s success was the subject of one of our favourite Grand Tour segments, too.

As for when players can expect to get their hands on the digital equivalent in GT Sport? That’s a good question. If Girard & Co’s shot was recent, it could be a year or so before the 037 tackles Lago Maggiore. At the very least, it suggests a long-term approach to post-release support from Polyphony. Stay tuned for more as the story develops: we’ve reached out to Girard & Co for more information.
