Agreed with monton1999: “Having said that, I really believe people should race using the “view” they want. But it’s already getting a little tiresome hearing all these noobs whining all the time and telling people how they should race. As if they actually knew what the f**k they are talking about…”

Each and everyone to it’s own. I prefer the cockpit view for the immersion factor. And I’m slow as a brick anyway.

I take better lines in the cockpit view, but it feels a bit constrictive and slower. There will be a hood cam in the final game that will be better than a bumper cam

Cockpit wiew is more realistic ONLY if you drive cars in real life sitting in the back seat…

NO serious driver will drive witch cockpit view, simply because it takes valuable field of view while offering you ZERO additional information. That’s the reason the ovewhelming majority (every single one?) of the GT academy racing videos we have seen use the view with the greater field of view (in othe words: that field of view closest to that of driving in a real 3D world…) Obviously it still only shows you a “window” of the real thing, but is a window that better shows you the stuff that matters: the road and the other cars… Every time I swich to cockpit view the only thing I do is actually turning my 50″ TV into a 32″ one, getting nothing in return. But I guess it’s great for the noobs drooling at the cockpit of their virtual ferrari while cruising along the circuit…

If you have some difficulty accepting this simple truth, well… then you have a problem.

Having said that, I really believe people should race using the “view” they want. But it’s already getting a little tiresome hearing all these noobs whining all the time and telling people how they should race. As if they actually knew what the f**k they are talking about…

    Looks great.
If the game hadn’t been pushed back for so long, we would never been able to experience the beautiful graphics, the new sound engine and a lot of new implemented features I believe. The full game will be outstanding.

Get a 50″ widescreen panel, pull up a chair and switch to cockpit view. Life size. Can NOT beat that for realism. To whatever jackass said that the “strapped to the bumper” view is MORE real… how do you play GT whilst in that straightjacket?

  6. matt

This game looks ready to publish. lol !!.

    1. It looks smooth.
    2. The sound is truly outstanding. It actually sounds like a real car and not a hairdryer!!!!!
    3. The sense of speed is amazing!!! And Lucas isnt even in a “fast” car.
    4. It looks soooooooooo much better than forza !

I WANT A RELEASE DATE NOW!

  7. Bloodstriker

FFS, use the cockpit view lol. Half the world would be complaining if it didn’t have it, it does it have it, but no-one uses it..

Personally, I find that I have better lap times from within the car because like on a real car, I can make better judgements if the car is oversteering/understeering/etc. and make the necessary corrections. I also think that if you want the most realistic driving experience, ya gotta go with the in car cam…
That being said, if you’re not racing on a big screen, the bumper cam seems like a better idea because on a small screen, your field of view wthin the car is just too limited for the screen size…

  9. D1 Motorsports

As with many of the GT Academy winners, they use the shift buttons on the back of the wheel instead of the clunky syncro-shifter…its a much easier way to race and much more difficult to miss a shift.

You can clearly see at the 0:32 mark that he is shifting with his right hand. Just thought I would add my 2 cents.

@don-sf: I wouldn’t agree entirely. Whilst it’s true the cockpit view in games is more restrictive than real life, I would disagree that bumper cam is closer. I would say bumper cam is the other extreme and much more like riding a motorbike in real life.

If you’ve done that you’ll know what I mean, the unrestricted view you get on a motorbike is unlike anything you get in a car, just like bumper cam in a game is unlike anything you’ll get in a car. Personally I think cockpit is closer to reality than bumper cam, but typically it’s set too far back. The view point needs to be artificially brought foward a little as if you were driving with your head perched over the wheel, this would give you a field of view more approximate to real life.

As a compromise I use bonnet (hood) view in games that support it, which at least is vertically correct if not longitudinally.

while in car view looks more realistic, and can be more realistic, in gt5, the bumper view is the more real.

because the in car stuff takes alot of space, you field of viewing is very limited. in real life, you have a massive 100″ windscrean to look out from, you can focus and visualise very well. in real life you dont see the dials. you see alot of 3d space outside of the car.

with in car view this is not true, its a 2d picture of the road planted onto the space where the windscrean is, you cant focus out like you can in real life, so you dont see as much, its very limited. therefore it restricts your view and as a result makes a more unrealistic viewing mode.

  12. Louie_Schumii

His steering corrections especially during the really high speed part of the track maybe 1 minute – 45 seconds before the long back straight were fun to watch. You really have to work that wheel!

Had to do some really intense corrections myself during the NZ Final ;) lol.

  13. RADracing

370Z Tuned, like he said at the end of the video. Quote: It was fun driving in the Ring with a car just like my race car.

    FREDO

Sorry to be picky but I think you mean “Roll Cage” rather than “Roll Bar”. They are 2 completely different things with 2 completely different purposes. still loving your work though!!

  15. Fredo

I only switch out from cockpit view in games if there are roll bars all over the place blocking a reasonable field of vision, otherwise it adds so much to the gameplay that it is indispensable. I wonder if was a true racing simulator that combined the in-cockpit feeling of NFS Shift with the damage engine of GRID and the physics and graphics of GT5, and the ONLY view option was in-cockpit… All the so-called elite experts of Gran Turismo would either shit their pants or cry like a baby. Probably both.

  16. tyl0r_r

I run virtually identical lap times with bumper view or cockpit. I use whichever depending on the mood I’m in. Cockpit is a little more like being in the car (obviously, lol) but bumper is often more aesthetically nice. Neither is cheating, ‘ya whiners.

  17. Razor

Paulo> Actually in-car view is “faster” because you get more information to your eyes than from bumper cam. Specifically – body roll and position. This additional information can help you. But majority of players (even those at the top) use bumper cam because they always did that and they aren’t used to incar view.Probably they don’t like it because you can’t see as much track, but on the other hand, if you are good, you can drive almost blind.e.g. F1 drivers also can’t see as much view from their low cockpit but they don’t need it.

  18. [The Stig]

why they dont use cockpit view!!??!!!I wonna see cockpit view, cause its the best way of driving and general reason why I’m intrested in gran turismo :)

  19. MIchael

Bumper cam gives more enjoyable speed feeling, that’s all. Shouldn’t be easier from this view, although it depends on the screen size, you can’t be fast from in-the-car on a 14 inch tv. ;)

  20. Paulo

Nobody likes using In car view huh. I guess we all know that faster laps are obtained using bumper cam. Ring looked very good, but I still want to see it at a different time of day or with different weather conditions.

  21. newbielives

Man he is driving smooth but at the same time on the edge as he not letting off the gas and using steering to control the over revving imbalance.
    AWESOME !!!!

  22. TokyoDrift

Nice to see somebody who can drive using the correct view ;) Was he on automatic gears though? Couldn’t really see, but then again, that wheel does only have small buttons on the back instead of proper paddles.

  23. vitz

lateral g-force meter was there since GT4, although i wish it upscaled when your in high-end race cars as they are pulling more than 2G through a corner…

do we know what car he’s in, sounds awesome

  24. Fredo

Just bustin balls. Actually, I bet this guy would be the absolute best on the ‘Ring, whilst strapped to the front bumper.

    @deathcabdan

I wouldn’t say more tire smoke, but thicker tire smoke, also the grass and trees look much more detailed this time around. (like the grass on Fuji)
