Is Your McLaren Senna Too Ordinary? Try This $400,000 Carbon Theme

Since its launch last year, there’s been a lot of keyboard time spent on discussing the McLaren Senna‘s looks. It’s probably not a reach to say few journalists and commentators think it’s a bit boring.

Nevertheless, to cater for anyone who thinks the car should be a little more visually arresting, McLaren has unveiled a “Carbon Theme” for the car.

It’s one of five themes McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has developed for the Senna, ahead of the Geneva Motor Show later this month. It’ll be the only one McLaren will physically display, with the others available virtually. That’s probably because MSO spent 1,000 hours on this car’s detailing alone.

The Carbon Theme consists of 67 individual parts. These are a mix of “visual carbon fiber” for the larger body panels, with accents and details in Solar Yellow and Laurel Green. MSO chose this particular color scheme to match the car’s inspiration: Ayrton Senna’s race helmet colors. The yellow sills, rear wing, and aero blades took up nearly a quarter of MSO’s time on the car.

Along with the obvious green on the brake calipers, this car features green gas struts for the doors. You’ll also spot the blue from Senna’s lid — and the Brazilian flag — in the center-lock wheel nuts. They’re only blue on the right side though, as the left wheels feature red items instead.

The carbon continues on the inside, with contrast yellow stitching on the dash, door cards and seats. There’s a yellow strip on the top of the steering wheel too. The seats include a Senna “S” on the headrest — a logo also embossed onto the wing end plates.

Also part of the show car is a new wheel option. This seven-spoke, hybrid aluminum/carbon-fiber wheel reduces weight even further compared to the standard car. The forged item is around 10% lighter, at 16.5lb, and will be available in diamond cut or “stealth” finishes.

All-in, this theme will set you back around $400,000. Yes, that’s on top of the $1m asking price for one of the 500 cars.
